22.01.2022 Ipswich City Council is asking the next State Government to commit to a fairer investment in the city. With only 17 days before the 31 October State Election, council is calling on all political parties to demonstrate their support for current and future residents of Queensland’s fastest-growing city. In a recent independent study by the Suburban Alliance, it was identified that the Queensland Government has spent just $17,700 per-capita on capital expenditure over the past e...ight years within the Ipswich region. Comparatively, the state has invested $33,600 per-capita on capital expenditure in inner-city Brisbane. The data clearly shows that our city has received half the capital investment compared to Brisbane residents. Council released its election advocacy brochure today, targeting five regionally-significant projects for investment from the state: - Ipswich Central to Springfield Central (I2S) Public Transport Corridor; - Waste and Planning Act Reform; - Ipswich Central Second River Crossing; - Ebenezer Regional Industrial Area; and - North Ipswich Sport and Entertainment Precinct. Local government collects 3 per cent of all the taxes paid and maintains 75 per cent of road networks. State and federal governments collect 97 per cent of all taxes and we need to see other levels of government deliver for Ipswich residents. https://www.ipswichfirst.com.au/council-advocates-for-our-/

12.01.2022 Inland Rail is a federal government project that will complete the national freight network, transforming how move goods around Australia. The aim is to connect Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland with a 1,700km fast freight network that will better link producers to markets and create new opportunities for businesses, industries and regional communities. Current plans have the rail line running through Ipswich from Grandchester, Calve...rt, Ebenezer, past Peak Crossing through to Kagaru. This project has enormous economic potential for Ipswich. Your new Council requested Inland Rail to brief us on the opportunities and issues for our city. Inland Rail briefed us on 11 August, the briefing is at https://ipswich.infocouncil.biz//CBS_20200811_MIN_2717_WEB The Councillors and I have encouraged Inland Rail to conduct community consultation on the project and to give commitments to ensure Ipswich businesses are involved in the design and construction of the rail line. I am pleased to let you know that the 2nd community consultation in Ipswich will be held on Thursday evening 5.30-8pm at the Railway Museum. I will be attending, if you wish to attend please send an email to [email protected] or phone 1800 732 761. https://www.ipswich.qld.gov.au//inland-rail-project-commun

10.01.2022 As part of the Qld Government Coordinator General process on the Remondis waste to energy / incinerator project at Swanbank, Remondis is required to present a communications plan to the Qld Gov for their approval. Remondis have contracted Three Plus to draft the communications plan and conduct the community and stakeholder consultation. Tuesday’s meeting with Three Plus was the first time they had met with all the Councillors. The Councillors and I were forthright and robus...t in presenting the views and concerns of Ipswich residents and discussed the public position of the four ALP Ipswich state MPs. We impressed upon Three Plus that Remondis and the Qld Gov need to: - conduct genuine consultation with residents including local resident and environmental groups - this consultation needs to commence as soon as possible, the residents of Ipswich have been left hanging for two years - provide Ipswich residents with technical information of the proposal, as all we have is a picture of a building - the list of all the more than 50 energy from waste facilities in Europe operated by Remondis - publicly release the polling questions and data from the 1,412 residents from Ipswich, Ipswich West, Bundamba and Scenic Rim electorates. Let residents decide what the polling data shows - be part of the Waste and Mining Working Group recently set up by Councillors The Remondis proposal is being run and managed by the Qld Gov and will only come to your Council for approval once the Qld Gov approve and are completely satisfied with their Environment Impact Study and their community consultation. The land is zoned for landfill and your Council can legally only assess it against the state gov approved planning scheme. I cannot stress enough how important it is for our community to be heard once community consultation commences after the state election. https://m.qt.com.au//waste-company-briefs-council/4115093/
