25.01.2022 An updated bushfire seasonal outlook for southern Australia has been released by the Bushfire & Natural Hazards CRC. Elevated grass fire risk across most of Victoria and NSW due to great growing conditions caused by the above average rainfall. See the full report at http://www.bnhcrc.com.au/hazardnotes/23

25.01.2022 A site assessment at a winery in the Yarra Valley is a tough and dirty job, but someone has to do it! And we got award winning Helen & Joey chardonnay...

25.01.2022 Congratulations to Terramatrix team members Jon Boura, Amalie Tibbits, Alice Gower & Michael Hansby for winning the Best Poster Award at the recent International Fire Behavior and Fuels Conference for their poster presentation - The Warringine Park Bushfire Case Study.

25.01.2022 Were also very happy to be continuing our long association with Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, through appointment to their panel for provision of Professional Support Services - Planning for bushfire assessments and advice.

23.01.2022 Changes to the bushfire controls in the Victoria Planning Provisions were released this week, affecting Clauses 13.05. 44.06, 52.47 and 52.48. Check out the detail of Amendment VC132 at http://planningschemes.dpcd.vic.gov.au/updates-a/amendment

23.01.2022 MFPO Training Were looking to run a number of two day courses for Municipal Fire Prevention Officers and their Assistants. The courses are being run with the agreement of CFA and align pretty closely to the training offered periodically by CFA. Were half way through running the first course, hosted by Mornington Peninsula Shire, and being attended also by staff from City of Frankston and Bass Coast Shire.... We have been asked by another Council to run a second course for municipalities on the northern outskirts of Melbourne. Were happy to do this if there is sufficient demand. Provisional timing is for two days in mid to late November. Contact us via [email protected] if youre interested in attending, and we can provide details of the course etc. Were also keen to run the course in regional centres.

23.01.2022 An interesting article about the future of Facebook tools that use data they collect to assist in disaster planning and management. What do you think??? http://www.afr.com//facebook-trials-australian-bush-fire-a

20.01.2022 I spent Wednesday morning at Blackburn Lake Sanctuary talking about bushfire behaviour and safety with the City of Whitehorse Fire Patrol staff. Gotta love a bushfire walk and talk at 7.30am and under threatening skies. Unfortunately I forgot to get everyones permission to post a photograph of them, so here is an artists impression instead!

20.01.2022 Wow its a long time since Ive posted anything. Is being REALLY REALLy busy an adequate excuse? Were finishing up significant strategic land use planning projects for City of Greater Bendigo and Mt Alexander Shire, a fire management plan for roads and tracks in Rural City of Wangaratta, a review of the Wodonga Municipal Fire Management Plan, and fire management plans for landfills and resource recycling centres in the City of Greater Shepparton. And just starting a major project for Department of Defence in NSW, as well as work for DELWP on the Anglesea Futures Land Use Plan. And thats not to mention more than 80 BPAD BMO or BAL reports since the New Year. So hardly time to draw breath, let along post on Facebook! But well try to be more regular in the future...

18.01.2022 Cat and Kim have been undertaking fire hazard inspections and issuing Fire Prevention Notices in the outer eastern suburbs. More than 2000 inspections completed in the last 3 weeks. A huge effort! As a result fuel is being managed along the urban edge reducing the potential impact of grassfires on the residential area.

18.01.2022 You have got to love a day of site assessment training on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. A lot of positive feedback - hopefully not all due to the stunning scenery and warm weather! "Thanks Jon I really enjoyed this training and learnt heaps!" "...thanks for the course it was most interesting. Im fairly new to the area and have not really come across this in this way before. It was a great help in understanding where the Scheme provisions are coming from."... "Thanks Jon the training was very informative and enjoyable."

17.01.2022 On Tuesday night Jon Boura was guest speaker at the 2016 Parkland Community Forum hosted by Whitehorse City Council. About 90 community members, with a passion for Whitehorses bushland reserves, heard Jon speak about the upcoming review of the Whitehorse Bushland Reserves Fire Management Strategy and present a case study of the Warringine Park, Hastings bushfire of January 2015. Thanks to Whitehorse for their hospitality and Libby Gott for the photos.

06.01.2022 And the program logic we helped develop....

05.01.2022 Terramatrix analyst Catherine Stephenson captures the glorious Mt Buller (sans snow), while out on a site assessment.

02.01.2022 Weve done a lot of interesting projects with Frankston City Council - bushfire management strategy, planned burning decision support tool, training, and a heap of fire management plans for bushland reserves.
