10.01.2022 Its Indigenous Literacy Day. A day designed to celebrate the value of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples first languages and why learning in language is so important. Usually, an official celebration occurs at the Sydney Opera House with children from remote communities, local schools, ILF ambassadors, and supporters in attendance. This year for the first time, it was open to all via live video. We believe all Australians should celebrate our incredible indigenous culture, stories, and literacy, so take the time to watch the event replay featuring ILF ambassadors sharing insights and stories, including Jessica Mauboy singing a stunning rendition of My Island Home on YouTube now.

10.01.2022 Know your country. For the rest of this week we will posting websites and resources you can use to understand the Indigenous land you live on. Next up is a resource for our Perth-dwelling followers. Gnarla Boodja Mili Mili (Our Country on Paper) is an interactive map available from the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries. It overlays current and historical city maps of Perth with maps of important Noongar cultural sites surrounding Buneenboro (the S...wan River). Next time you are wandering around the CBD, use the map to learn the story of these places and how they were used for thousands of years. https://gnarlaboodjamap.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/#/welcome #indigenousknowledge #aboriginalland #education #awareness #indigenouslanguages #indigenousaustralia #connectiontocountry #reconciliation #understanding #resources #alwayswasalwayswillbe

09.01.2022 The beginning of August marks the start of one of the six Nyoongar seasons, Djilba. As the days start to warm, we start to see and hear the first of the newborn... animals with their proud parents out and about providing them with food, guiding them through foraging tasks and protecting them. Woodland birds are still nest bound, hence the swooping protective behaviour of the koolbardi (magpie), djidi djidi (willy wag tails) and chuck-a-luck (wattle birds). As the season progresses and the temperatures continue to rise, the flower stalks of the balgas (Grass Trees) emerge in preparation for the coming Kambarang season. See more
