25.01.2022 28th May is the anniversary of the opening of Testaz Chiropractic Clinic! 36 years ago Robert and Amanda opened the door at 260 Maribyrnong Road, Moonee Ponds where we stayed for 21 years. That makes it 15 years since we moved 500 metres east and across the road to 189 Maribyrnong Road, Ascot Vale. We thank everyone who has entrusted their chiropractic care to us - 36 years for some families - and we look forward to continuing to do so. Thanks also to our fabulous staff: Merilee, Noeleen, Brigette and Eliza, and to our associate chiropractor Evan, myotherapist Shane and TCM acupuncturist Lana for being part of our clinic family. Happy anniversary!

25.01.2022 This is something we've been discussing with people.

25.01.2022 Acupuncture is back! The past few months have been a trying time for all of us, and your dedication to social distancing and isolation has been amazing. As such, things are calming down in the hospital and I can start to come back to clinic, although on a much reduced scale. Please contact the clinic to make your appointment, Wednesday mornings through June and July. Sundays by appointment ~Lana

25.01.2022 125 years of Chiropractic is a wonderful thing to celebrate! Dr Robert in Sydney and Dr Amanda in Melbourne had their first chiropractic adjustments as children over 50 years ago. We joined the ACA when we graduated in 1984 and have been members ever since.

25.01.2022 We are delighted to announce Remedial Massage therapist Lisa Huynh is commencing practice at the clinic on Monday 6th July. 30 minute ($45) or 1 hour ($85) appointments for deep tissue massage, relaxation massage, sports massage and functional cupping may be made by phoning the clinic on 9370 8022 or booking online. Lisas consultation hours are: Monday 9am - 11.30am, 3pm - 7pm.

22.01.2022 For our older patients. It is important to reverse muscle loss associated with ageing as this reduces your all cause mortality risk. So get to work and build muscle. Have a good day everyone

22.01.2022 As part of our continuing efforts to educate ourselves and ensure we are following best practices, Robert and Amanda are the first of our staff to have completed the Department of Health Infection Control Training for COVID-19. We remind you to call the clinic and cancel or reschedule your appointment if you are unwell, caring for someone who is unwell, have returned from overseas and need to self isolate, or have been in contact with COVID-19.

21.01.2022 We're excited! Allied Health practitioners can resume treating people providing they have a COVID Business Plan in place and we do! Our online booking system will be available from tomorrow afternoon or phone 9370 8022 to make your appointments.

21.01.2022 As if anyone needs another reason to hit the gym when the lock downs end. This study from the University of Sydney highlights the neuro-protective effects of lifting weights and thus helping maintain good mental function into older age and obviously, by extension, a better quality of life. Enjoy

21.01.2022 Care and health care during Stage 4 restrictions: You can leave home to receive health care or attend medical appointments. We have been advised this includes chiropractic care so we are open, however this may change at short notice. If you need to see a doctor or health care professional, you should do so. Do not put off getting medical care. Your doctor or health care professional can provide advice on how to stay safe. You can leave home to care for a sick or elderly r...elative. If you are providing care for someone you should try to keep 1.5 metres between you when you can. Wear a face covering. You can leave home to accompany someone for essential medical treatment including chiropractic care (which may change at short notice), if you are a parent, guardian or necessary support person. You can take a pet to the vet. Please phone 9370 8022 to confirm, reschedule or cancel your appointment. Our consultation hours are subject to change. We will advise you regarding your myotherapy, therapeutic massage and acupuncture appointments as soon as possible.

20.01.2022 Introducing Dr Drew Russell, the new associate chiropractor at Testaz Chiropractic Clinic. He is looking forward to helping the local community, book in online or call the clinic if you'd like an appointment. But first a little about Dr Drew. Drew was active in numerous sports and activities as a teenager and started seeing a Chiropractor to help with some injuries and to optimise performance. Recognising the benefits of Chiropractic, this led to him completing a 5-year doub...le degree in Health Science and Applied Science (Chiropractic), graduating from RMIT with Distinction. Prior to this Drew spent several years as a Remedial Massage Therapist and Sports Trainer. Drew has experience treating patients from paediatrics to geriatrics in Darwin as well as several clinics in Melbourne, including an Aged Care Facility. Drew enjoys working with all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels with the aim to keep people active and moving so they can enjoy the activities they love. He particularly likes to help those involved in sport and fitness in order to reach their full potential. Having been involved in various sports and activities he understands the importance of biomechanics and how chiropractic care can help optimise function and overall health. Personally, Drew enjoys staying fit and active and in his free time will often be hiking or exploring the local bushlands in the Macedon Ranges. He also enjoys exercising in his home gym, swimming, Taekwondo and has a love for all things food. #chiro #chiropracticcare #chiropractic #chiropractor #new #excited #mooneevalley #healthylifestyle #health #fitness #healthandwellness #healthandfitness #sportsinjury #gym #backpainrelief #backpain #injuryprevention #smile #headache #sciaticarelief #maribyrnong

20.01.2022 Myo-chiro days are back and there is one Myo-chiro appointment left on Thursday 18th June. If youd like to reserve the 10.45am time for yourself or a family member please phone the clinic on 9370 8022.

20.01.2022 Enhanced social distancing measures announced last night excludes health-related services, including allied health services. Australians are still permitted to attend medical and health appointments. We are continuing to follow best practice, so we have removed all of the toys and magazines from reception. Wed also like to thank Dawsons Australia for the hospital strength surface spray and hand sanitiser. If youre working from home or in isolation, remember to keep active.... Schedule some times throughout the day to get up and move. Remember the plank challenge? It could be time to try that one out again! Sit-to-stand is another great one. How many times can you do that in 30 seconds? Or simply put on you favourite music and dance. Phone 9370 8022 to book your appointment, or to cancel or reschedule if you are unwell, caring for someone who is unwell, self-isolating for any reason, or suspect you have been in contact with COVID-19. Our current operating hours are pinned to the top of this page and also on the website. www.testazchiro.com.au

14.01.2022 An article from the Independent that compares walking & running for heart health - seems for the same energy expenditure theyre about the same in reducing risk factors for heart health. When compared by time spent though running produced more benefit because more energy was used in the same period of time. If you would like to read the original journal article look here - its quite long and detailed: https://www.ahajournals.org//fu/10.1161/atvbaha.112.300878 https://www.independent.ie//brisk-walking-better-for-heart

12.01.2022 Following DHHS advice, as of 7th August until 13th September we are open under the following conditions: 1. No medical referral is needed for care 2. Care is for emergencies only. What this means is routine face-to-face treatments are not permitted, however you are able to attend for treatment if... *you have an increase in pain or other symptoms and treatment means you will avoid needing a specialist or other medical referral *treatment means you will avoid a hospital admission or emergency department visit *you will experience an increased need in care or accommodation *you cannot self-manage your condition for 6 weeks or until Stage 4 lockdown is over. *you cannot work or care for others due to your condition 3. We need to screen people to help you to decide whether care is necessary, or what steps you may take to self-manage your condition, so online bookings are unavailable during Stage 4 lockdown. This means we have reduced our operating hours. There will be someone at reception to answer your calls during these times. At other times, please leave your name and phone number on the answering machine, or contact Robert and Amanda for chiropractic care on 0402 440 571 or 9337 3212, Shane for myotherapy queries on 0412 222 327, or email Lana for acupuncture and TCM care at [email protected] Therapeutic massage with Lisa is unavailable during Stage 4. Dr Robert and Dr Amanda will be available for consultation in short sessions Tuesdays Fridays; Dr Evan will be on leave for a few weeks. We will be screening people to keep within the guidelines and keep everyone safe. ...Online bookings will not be available during this time. You will need to phone 9370 8022 for appointments. Updates for myotherapy and massage will be posted when available. Chiropractic hours: Tuesday: Dr Amanda 9 am 12 noon Wednesday: Dr Robert 2pm 4pm Thursday: Dr Amanda 2pm 5pm Friday: Dr Robert 10am 12 noon If you believe you require emergency care at other times, please call the clinic and listen for the after-hours number. Robert or Amanda will talk with you and help you to decide whether chiropractic care is appropriate. Current Regulations as per DHHS Under stage 4 restrictions in Melbourne, although chiropractic practices are permitted to remain open, this is not business as usual. KEY POINTS 1. No referral required 2. Routine care is not permitted NO REFERRAL REQUIRED Patients do not need a medical referral to see their chiropractor. ROUTINE CARE IS NOT PERMITTED Stage 4 restrictions are aligned to Victorias current State of Disaster and are understandably focused on saving and protecting the lives of all Victorians through restricting non-essential movement across the state for the next 6 weeks. For this reason, in areas where stage 4 restrictions apply, care must only be provided if the absence of, or delay of this care, would result in a significant change/deterioration in the patient/clients functional independence necessitating escalation of care. Examples provided by the DHHS of when it is appropriate for care to be provided to a patient include the following: 1. To avoid a requirement for specialist input/review 2. To avoid an increase in care needs and/or alternate accommodation 3. To avoid a hospital admission or emergency department presentation. For this reason, care should only be provided if it is considered essential for the next 6 weeks and where not receiving care is likely to lead to a significant deterioration in the health or well being of the patient. In all other circumstances you must not see a patient for a face-to-face consultation. This is a legal requirement.

11.01.2022 Following advice from Victorias Chief Health Officer, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, and the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee, that in areas such as greater Melbourne where there were high levels of community transmission masks, while not mandatory, should be worn when distancing was not possible, the Australian Chiropractors Association recommends masks should be when providing hands on treatment to a patient. Do patients need to wear masks? From the Austra...lian Government Dept. of Health, you should wear a mask if: You need to leave your home for any reason and will be in public areas You are visiting a medical facility You have symptoms and other people are present in the same room as you. If you have symptoms, our clinic is not the right place for you to visit. You will need to contact your GP or other medical facility. We now have a supply of masks at reception and in the treatment rooms.

11.01.2022 Clinic hours update: The clinic will be closed on Thursday 6th August, Friday 7th August and Saturday 8th August while the regulations pertaining to Allied Health practitioners are sorted out. We hope to know more by the end of the week. Wednesday 5th August Chiropractic:... Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) is in contact with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Victorian Health Minister to correct public messaging about reasons to leave you home so that it is clear to members of the public that health services other than medical or emergency are still allowed to open and can see clients.

We are remaining open for chiropractic care only, and there are some changes to our opening hours. 01.01.2022 Thoracic Extension Exercise Following on from our back relief position we recommend this exercise to help with posture, relaxation, breathing and mobility. Utilising a foam roller (we have used a full one but a semicircular is preferred):... Steps: - place the foam roller onto the floor - sit down at the very end (bottom right on the edge) - legs in a flexed position as shown - slowly lay yourself down so that your head is resting on the foam roller and it is along your spine - place your arms out to the side, palms facing up so that your shoulders drop and chest opens up - take some deep breaths and just let your shoulders relax - try and perform this exercise daily spending a minimum of 10-15 minutes Alternatives you can also use 2 towels rolled up tightly, and placed in a line with a pillow positioned at the top of one end. As per the roller lay down on these so that your spine is along both towels. While performing this exercise focus on maintaining normal breath and if you feel discomfort or any pain alter what you are using. The full roller may be too much initially or towels too high. The major benefits of this exercise are: - reducing tension within our necks - improving posture while reducing potential tightness and fatigue in your chest, shoulders and upper back caused by sitting at a desk, watching TV or reading - allows the bodies nervous system to enter and stay in rest and digest mode (parasympathtic system) - relaxes the mind and body As always should you feel any continued aches or pains make sure to stop. Never exercise into pain. Remember you can book an appointment with us where we can address these concerns and help prescribe a care plan for you. #chiropracticcare #chiro #chiropractic #chiropracticadjustment #exercise #backpainrelief #backpain #healthandwellness #healthylifestyle #healthandfitness
