21.01.2022 We’ve had this Nature Journalling session booked in for a while but when heavy rain was forecast our clever Artist-in-Residence; Barb was able to pivot and make the lesson all about the art and science of water drops ! With a bit of Life of Leonardo DaVinci weaved in!

19.01.2022 2020 will go down as a memorable one! Mostly for the wrong reasons. A lot of our normal things couldn’t happen but we still managed to work with lots of schools, students and teachers and forge some great partnerships along the way. We did more school visits than ever before. We even tried our hand at a series of Zoom lessons when students were stuck at home. Please enjoy a short video that features some of our highlights.

15.01.2022 On today’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic program, students were delighted to meet a baby possum that one of our teachers is caring for at the moment. Possums need P.A.W.S. to live in the forest so she was the perfect inclusion for today’s learning.

13.01.2022 Big thanks to Armidale Secondary College Year 8 student, Morris Collins, for taking these great photos today. Students had collected invertebrate samples from the river and were analysing them under the microscope back in the classroom.

04.01.2022 Recently, Thalgarrah EEC designed and delivered a Stage 4 Ecology program in collaboration with UNE ecologists. The program was delivered 4 times in Term 4 to almost 200 students. Students spend half the day in the forest completing an investigation around predator / prey relationships and the other half studying the ecology of the river. During the river-based fieldwork students learnt about the interactions between biotic and abiotic features, created a food web based on aquatic invertebrates and looked at the adaptations of a mayfly nymph.

04.01.2022 Today was the culmination of a 10 week Birds in Schools program for Kelly’s Plains PS upper division. Students decided that their school grounds needed a secluded watering spot for birds as well as nesting sites for some of the local birds that need hollows to nest in. What a great result for birds and humans involved!
