Here is Marks Bio, Hi there, I am Mark Urquhart, I have been asked if I would like to be an ambassodor for ThankYou For Your Service by my good friend Mr Rick Stubbs. I would like to say I am so very honoured to accept this role. I have a small military story but a big love for the military and our current serving members and veterans. I can’t wait to work with you Rick and the team. To be involved with Thank You For Your Service along with supporting Veterans @ v360 and Young Veterans is a huge honour for me I look forward to a long and lasting relationship with you all. My background is that I joined the Army in 1990 and my first and only posting was with 3RAR. I served first as an Infantryman in Alpha Company until several years later where when we were training in Canungra Warfare Centre and out in the big green jungle I couldn’t see a thing, I quickly found out i was colour-blind. Once back at the battalion I saw the doc and then went onto a Corp transfer across to Catering Platoon. Once I finished my catering training in Puckupunyal I was then posted back to 3RAR where I spent the rest of my career. But before I finished I had two parachute incidents which rendered me unfit for service. First one was a hang up where i caught the static line of the soldier in front of me and counted a few of the hercules rivets second incident I got caught in the rises of the chute and had a very heavy landing damaging left side of my body and was discharged in 1995. After many surgeries from 1995-1999, I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2000 after alcohol and prescription medication. 2000-08 many operations on ankle, knee, hip and Spine which all led to me being an incomplete Paraplegic. 2008, life started in the wheelchair and after being married 21 years with four children my marriage basically ended and life was never the same. 2009 after a year in the chair and massive weight gain up to 128kg my daughter finished school I started swimming with her for my health as I had lost myself. I met a guy at the pool who changed my life and really got me into swimming heavily and training. I found me again and this Paul Simms turned out to be an old Paralympic Coach but now coached local kids. So off I went trained and trained and in sep`2010 I was lifting a heavy box and got a hernia where the doc operated but perforated the bowel, caused a lot of damage which is now life long, causing extreme pain. 2010 retired from swimming but after recovery I got into triathlons and by 201nn4 I was open class World Champion, 2014 I also attended Prince Harrys Invictus games in London where I received 2 Silver X 2 Bronze, 2016 i was awarded a spot on 2016 Invictus games after the trials where I went onto 3 Gold x 1 Bronze and pushed the American across the line so he got 1st place and his own Gold. Along with the Invictus Games success I am Australia’s only Parabobsledder and ranked 4th in the world in my last season and heading for the 2022 Winter Paralympics and about to begin training as a Powerlifter thinking of summer Paralympics I come home form the Invictus Games and headed straight to see Professor Munjed Almuderis where we had spoken before about double above knee leg amputations. We had another meeting then it was all go and away we with the surgery to get me up and walking again. July 23rd 2016 I had both legs off surgery went well but then had a stroke which caused due to clot going through the heart. They monitored my heart but found a hole in it so they had to do another surgery 6 weeks later to repair the heart. The heart surgery went well then I had a fall off the bed which tore all the muscle of the femur and she staples and lost 1.5 litres of blood. But from here I have moved forward in leaps and bounds. I have amazed the doctors being the first person in the world as an incomplete paraplegic to get up and walk on two prosthetic GeniumX3 legs from ottobock. I am about to be married for the second time to an amazing woman we are blending two families 6 kids the new Brady Bunch.
