25.01.2022 The most common excuse I hear from photographers, is: "my clients would never spend that much". If that client has a $1000 phone and goes home to watch their $2000 TV, then why can't they spend that much on photography?

22.01.2022 Why is there a race to the bottom, in photography? Why do we try and be cheaper than the next photographer? Is this the only way to do it? There is a better way. A much better way. One where you don't have to worry about other photographers at all. One where you can actually live on a wage from your photography.

21.01.2022 The business of photography is a personal kind of business. The photos you take will be in your clients homes for a long time. We aren't an online retailer where people just download photos. You want to meet with your clients. You want to get them excited. You want your business to have a face. Don't become an online retailer!... Get personal! See more

20.01.2022 "The customer is always right" Yes, but sometimes the customer doesn't really know what they want, so they need a little help to be "right". It's very important to create a trust with your customers, then you are able to guide them into being "right", without them feeling pushed.

18.01.2022 So you are a portrait photographer, and you are offering mini sessions with digitals. You are leaving money behind!

18.01.2022 I read a post on a forum that stated "Photography as a profession is a dying business". It went on to say that "anyone and everyone with a camera today is a "photographer"" Do we really think photography as a business is dying? I would say that there are a whole heap more photographers who are struggling these days. But there are also a whole heap more photographers who are doing very well.... Photography as a profession, is far from a dying business. It is alive and well!

17.01.2022 Photographers always talk about "finding the right client". I think most would be surprised by how many "right clients" have not become such, because the photographer hasn't offered them anything of value.

15.01.2022 I was in a photographers forum yesterday, and somebody used the excuse: "people in my area just want cheap photographers". Why is this such a common excuse? Is it really a valid one? Those same people are often walking around with a thousand dollar phone in their pocket and watch a $3000 TV when they get home? ... As photographers, we just need to offer something which people actually want to spend money on. If you aren't offering your clients an exciting product, they won't value it.

14.01.2022 I have seen an article floating around recently about why giving raw files to clients isn't a bad thing. What is a client going to do with a raw file? What is a client even going to do with a jpeg? ... Give them something they can hang up as soon as they get home!

09.01.2022 There are two major parts to a photography business. First one is getting clients, second one is selling to those clients. No, taking photos is not a major part. ;)

08.01.2022 I received a message this week from a client. All it said was "You're a genius". He had just finished a week where he turned over $8k from portrait photography. 6 or so months ago he had never done a professional shoot. This could be you too!

08.01.2022 Another photographer breaking the $5k barrier!

07.01.2022 Offering payment plans, is a great way to increase sales. Imagine all the furniture stores that would be out of business if you couldn't buy it now and pay later? Same thing with photography. You can give people the opportunity to get exactly what they want, without blowing the current budget.
