25.01.2022 The NSW Supreme Court decision to deny permission for tomorrow’s planned Black Lives Matter rally to proceed is disappointing from a freedom of rights perspecti...ve, but this does not diminish or dilute the message we all intended to send. We remain determined and will lead our own initiatives to send the message - and we will be heard - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Since 1991, 432 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women and children have died in custody. Take a moment to process that number. 432. That’s 432 people who have been apprehended but somehow, while in police or government care, they have lost their lives. It is hard to believe, but sadly, it is true. Your message can still be heard. NSWALC has initiated a national campaign for tomorrow to honour those 432 people who are no longer with us. The #FourThreeTwo campaign calls on all Australians to head to their driveways, balconies, verandas or wherever you wish to pay your respects and stop for a minute’s silence at 4:32pm on Saturday afternoon. Use social media to send a message that deaths in custody can no longer be tolerated. Post your videos, photos or a simple note using #FourThreeTwo and #432 Black Lives Matter. If someone's critiquing what you're doing, they either care enough about you or what you're doing, or y...ou're making waves that others can't surf. But there's a difference between hearing what people are saying about you and your work, and letting that criticism breed self-doubt. I don't let what other people say about me affect me, but I know not everyone is like that. The truth is that words can hurt. If you can't take the hits that people are dealing, then you've got to be able to pick up a shield. Block out the criticism from people that you wouldn't take advice from, because that's the key. But for me, criticism is advice in another form. Take it in, look for value in it.
