23.01.2022 The Palmetum will this week have its lagoon drained to combat aquatic weeds causing a range of issues in the manmade water habitat. The weeds, including Cerato...phyllum, Salvinia and Lemonoideae, floated into the Lagoon during the unprecedented monsoon event, causing congestion, stagnation and a significant decrease in water quality. This maintenance was last undertaken about 10 years ago. Despite being man made, the lagoon has developed its own natural ecosystem and rarely requires maintenance. The garden will still be accessible to visitors during this maintenance period. For more info, visit http://bit.ly/2PLEO2i

23.01.2022 Regular visitors from Delta Dogs, Lyn Pemberton and Harriet are retiring after 6 years of volunteering at The Good Shepherd Home. Lyn & Harriet are a very friendly duo whose visits brightened the day of many Residents over the years. Harriet is getting older and her vet has suggested it's time for her to hang up her collar and Volunteer badge and enjoy a well earned retirement. We cannot thank Lyn & Harriet enough for their kindness...................they will both be very much missed.

03.01.2022 As part of Seniors Week Celebrations, a group of our Residents and Day Respite Clients ventured to Charters Towers by Train on Wednesday 21/8/19. Queensland Rail were so helpful & obliging, giving the group a whole carriage to themselves (possibly so other travelers weren't disturbed by the antics of our group !! ) In the words of Day Client Pat Milburn "what happens on the train, stays on the train!".....all good, innocent fun The group had some difficulty getting DTC ...Manager, Deb Mellor off the train........she was happy to go all the way through to "The Isa" to visit her Grand Babies. Carl Manley from our Maintenance Team met the train with our TGSH Bus and from there, they headed up to The Towers Lookout for drinks & nibbles while chatting with locals and taking in the beautiful scenery. After a tour of the local sights, they met with members of the Over 60's Group for dinner at the Commercial Hotel before heading home to Townsville. There were a few tired eyes this morning but a fantastic time was had by all. Special Thanks to Volunteer Jacki and staff Jenni Dehaan & Carl Manley for such great help. The Group are already asking to go again ! See more
