24.01.2022 Happy Eid. Ramadan has ended and now the Muslim Community celebrates Eid. Ramadan is a month of fasting a time to be grateful, humble and charitable. The children loved doing artwork to learn more about this celebration. Their crayon resist Mosques are beautiful.

24.01.2022 Today is International Day of Friendship. We are always learning about friendship at preschool but sometimes it is good to have a special day to acknowledge why it is so important to us all. We read some great stories about being good friends and shared our thoughts about friendship. Here are some of the children’s thoughts: Friendship is; sharing, looking after people, caring, if you miss someone you can give them a call, if you don’t have friends you feel lonely, you can dance with friends.

24.01.2022 Happy Fathers' Day to all our wonderful Dads, Grandpas, Uncles and other significant males. We did not get to celebrate at Kindy with you this year but the children loved painting pictures of you and making your special gifts. We hope you liked them. If you have time there are two new stories on Pearl's story time for you to snuggle up and listen to together. 24.01.2022 Preschool has been very quiet the last few weeks but if you walk past you might see that we have some new friends. The teddies have come for a visit. So if you are going on a bear hunt be sure to walk past and see if you can find all the bears here.

22.01.2022 This week we celebrated Harmony Week and Navrose which is the Persian New Year. The children listened to Neda talk about the ‘Haft Seen’ a table set with special items to celebrate the New Year. The focus of Harmony week this year was ‘Creating harmony through bilingual learning’ so during singing today we sang lots of songs in different languages. We are very proud of the fact that we are such a multicultural centre.

22.01.2022 Ready for another exciting year of learning.

22.01.2022 August 4 is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's day. Children’s Day was first held in 1988. Part of the reason it was started was because there were many Aboriginal children in orphanages and institutions who did not know their birthday, so Children’s Day was set aside each year to celebrate the birthday of these children. (deadlystory.com) To mark this day the children engaged in some lovely art experiences as well as learning a greeting in Dharug the language of the traditional custodians of the land we are on.

21.01.2022 We participated in National Simultaneous Story Time again this year but it looked a little different because so many of our friends joined us on their computers from home. This year's story is "Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas" by Lucinda Gifford. We had lots of fun making some chicken puppets that we played with after the story. Here is a link to the story if you would like to read it again. https://youtu.be/f13cjAMc1g0

18.01.2022 Another preschool year has come to an end. Our rooms that are usually filled with learning, laughter and love stand empty, waiting for our next group of wonderful children. We wish all our Jack and Jill families a very Merry Christmas, have a safe and relaxing holiday and may 2020 be a wonderful year for us all.

18.01.2022 Happy Mothers’ Day to all our wonderful Mums. We hope you have a very special day. Here are the portraits the children have painted and two fun stories to read together.

18.01.2022 Another term has come to an end. We have loved learning about Spring and along side this we have learnt about the D’harawal season of Ngoonungi. This is the season where the Waratahs redden and you will see lots of flying foxes in the sky at dusk. Comparing the western seasons to the Aboriginal seasons is very new for us and is a wonderful learning journey. We have been looking at native plants and the children have been drawing wattle, bottle brush, banksia, Lilly pilly, and gymea lily. There drawings are beautiful and have so much detail.

18.01.2022 Yesterday was Kodomo No Hi -Children's day in Japan. To celebrate this occasion the children made carp kites. The carp symbolises strength and success which are qualities parents hope their children will possess. Even though we do not have many children at the centre just now we would not miss an opportunity to celebrate our wonderful multicultural community.

18.01.2022 Here we are ready to start another year.

17.01.2022 Today is National Sorry Day, a day to to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. We are never too young to learn the power the word sorry carries. We read a beautiful story to help us understand what today is about. Stories for Simon https://youtu.be/9Bkf4ahd924

17.01.2022 It has been a big week at preschool, this week is NAIDOC week so we spent time learning more about Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander culture. We read a beautiful book ‘Finding Our Heart’ about the Uluru Statement. It gave us lots to think about and we talked about how we are finding the nation’s heart at preschool through all the singing dancing and stories we learn about First Nations People. We also commemorated Rememberance day by making little poppies and reading a story about ANZAC Ted. Finally we celebrated and learnt about Diwali a beautiful Festival of Lights. The children decorated the beautiful clay pots called Diyas and we lit them at lunch time. They also created beautiful patterns called rangoli.

16.01.2022 We know that reading and sharing books is a great way to help children learn. So today to celebrate 'World Read Aloud Day' we sat together and read "Handa's Surprise" by Eileen Browne. I read it to the children first and then they helped me read it a second time, naming all the fruits in Handa's basket.

15.01.2022 This week we are celebrating Holi the Hindu Festival of colour. The children are learning about the significance of each colour and having lots of fun painting colourful pictures and also themselves and their friends. Red is for love, green is for wealth, orange is for prosperity, yellow is for friendship, pink is for happy dreams, blue is for good health and black protects us from evil.

15.01.2022 This week our wonderful teacher Linda celebrated 20 years of service here at The Jack and Jill Kindergarten. We are so lucky to have her on our staff. Linda is an amazing teacher and she has made a difference to so many children and families over the years. As you can see from the photos she hasn’t changed a bit. We love you Linda, thank you for everything you do.

14.01.2022 Today is the first day of our new look Christmas Concert, we are going to be performing outside over 4 days. Lucky we have such a beautiful playground to perform in. The children are excited and ready and we can't wait to share these special days with the families.

10.01.2022 Today March 3rd is Hina Matsuri - Japanese Dolls Day. The children made some beautiful paper dolls to celebrate this occasion.

09.01.2022 Two simple stories that Commemorate Anzac Day and help children understand what this day is all about. https://youtu.be/hvVmhuTJHOM https://youtu.be/k56jsvSkwH8

06.01.2022 We know that reading aloud to children is one of the best ways to stimulate language and cognitive skills. In light of how important reading is and the fact that I love to read to children I have started a YouTube channel called Pearl's Story Time. My aim is to build a library of favourite stories that the children can listen to at home. Hopefully parents will find this a useful resource. At the moment I have only posted two videos but hopefully there will be more to come soon. https://youtu.be/X8ROv5Y576s

04.01.2022 Term 2 has come to an end, and although attendance may have been disrupted by COVID-19 it did not stop us from playing and learning. Our zoom times have been a huge success and we are going to continue them twice a week next term, but it is wonderful to have our rooms full of happy, excited and curious children again. The Possums have been exploring space and the Wombats were learning about colour and shape.

04.01.2022 Today is Indigenous Literacy Day and our children were able to participate in a wonderful online experience listening to stories and songs in different First Nation languages. The children recognised one of the books that we have here at preschool 'No Way Yirrikipayi' a book written by the children on Tiwi Island. COVID has taken many things from us but it has also offered us many opportunities we would not otherwise have been able to be part of and this was one of them.

02.01.2022 One month in and the new YouTube channel Pearl's Story Time is doing well. We have even had requests for favourite stories. Here is a link to the latest video. It is a request from a previous student. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/nHCQBdqNO64
