23.01.2022 Thank you volunteers at river clean up today Hi Muddies Thank you to all 13 volunteers who turned up today at Close Street for our monthly clean up. We removed about 10 bags of mainly single use plastics from the river. Special thanks to Mozz for bringing his bike which made moving the litter bags easier. ... Since the introduction of return and earn scheme by state government, the volume of plastic bottles and cans that end up in the river has reduced significantly. But we still get a lot of other plastic litter. The promised comprehensive single use plastic reduction scheme is still on the back burner and state government is yet to give any dates on implementation of the scheme. NSW is the only state in Australia that hasn’t banned single use plastic bags yet. Today was the last clean up at Close Street this year. Our new clean up dates at Close Street will be in the new calendar, probably starting in February. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, New year and holiday season. Ranjith Evas for the Mudcrabs

With contracts expiring soon, it's time to up the ante! We'll be calling a different insurer each day from now until October 31, starting with Arch! 18.01.2022 We need the Federal Government to be investing in technology fit for the 21st century, not wasting taxpayers money on polluting and outdated projects. Wind and... solar are the cheapest form of new energy generation, and we are lucky to live in one of the sunniest and windiest countries on the planet. Let's make the most of this economic advantage and accelerate the transition towards clean energy. See more

13.01.2022 Not too late to file an objection to the expansion of coal mining under the Special Area of Sydney's water catchment. The deadline for written submissions is 5...pm on Tuesday 15 December 2020. To lodge a submission go to: https://www.ipcn.nsw.gov.au/have-your-say "Ms Cullis said the mining operations would result in potential surface subsidence of more than two-metres causing cracks in bedrock as wide as 400mm wide, and fractures connecting the surface to the mine hundreds of metres below. "It will destroy 25 upland swamps, an uncounted number of streams, come to within 300 metres of the edges of the Avon and Cordeaux dams, and to within 1000m of the dam walls, which Water NSW claims is too close. "Water NSW (who manage drinking water supplies) object to the predicted loss of 3.3 Gigalitres per day. This equates to the drinking water of a 130,000 per day."
