24.01.2022 A first-of-its-kind study focusing on the family and partners of current and ex-serving ADF personnel has highlighted the need for greater support for their mental and physical wellbeing. Dr Dannielle Post and her team from the University of South Australia and the SAHMRI Wellbeing and Resilience Centre set out to understand how the physical and psychological wellbeing of ADF Carers was affected. The study found that this group generally had high levels of distress and lowe...r physical fitness compared to the general population. Carers reported feeling isolated, unsure of who to turn to for assistance and sometimes felt unable to take care of their own wellbeing. Dr Post noted that, despite growing awareness of the plight of carers, little has changed in their level of support and suggests more interventions are put in place specifically aimed at addressing the needs of this group. 03.01.2022 This week is National Volunteer Week At this uncertain time, it is more important than ever to recognise and acknowledge the people in our community who dedicate their time to helping others. Our incredible CFS volunteers bravely fought the recent bushfires, tirelessly working to protect and support communities across South Australia and interstate. ... Thanks to a donation from The Road Home, a charity of The Hospital Research Foundation, more than 70 CFS volunteers and their families directly affected by this summer's bushfires have had access to immediate financial support. $200,000 was donated at the height of the fires, which allowed the volunteers to start rebuilding their homes and businesses, replenish their livestock and receive ongoing physical and mental support without delay. Thank you to all of our wonderful CFS volunteers
