25.01.2022 The Enchanted Garden became a little more enchanted today with the help of two Angels who came to visit! The garden didnt cope very well with the recent water slide that came down the hill - a lot of mulch, garden edges and even plants were washed away. Thank you so much for your help with mulching, pruning and your wonderful company today ladies :)

25.01.2022 Some pics from the garden....the newest addition to the garden is Cascade rock which started its life as a green beer bottle planter that collapsed under pressure when almost complete so I turned him into a rock [poor hubby had to drink 5 or 6 cartons of beer in order for me to make him!]

24.01.2022 I have so many unfinished projects it's always good to get one finished....here is ''Rayburn Rock''. This is another re-purposed piece. There was an old slow combustion stove in our kitchen which had seen better days. It made its way to the garden a couple of years ago and has been waiting for me to get to give it a makeover [you can see the stove in the background of the Santa pic]. There will be an addition to the rock coming soon, stay tuned!

24.01.2022 Here is Cascade rock, he didnt want to join the other pictures for some reason!

24.01.2022 Such a good morning <3

24.01.2022 The thing that I like about competitions is that it inspires my imagination to come up with a new original piece that I wouldnt ordinarily make... the bonus for me is a new piece for the garden walk! Here is my entry called Bush Babes for the 2014 Wide Bay Potters convention, which came first in its section Big Bold and Beautiful garden feature from the bush. It is 1.2m tall. I tried to get Bendog to pose beside it but this was the best I could get him to do!

23.01.2022 CLAY SCULPTURE WORKSHOP Date has been set!...

23.01.2022 This week we lost a friend and dear member of our sculpture group. Michelle was a much loved and courageous lady who had so much to give. I know she has left memories etched in us we will never forget. She will be deeply missed by all of us. R.I.P. Michelle <3

22.01.2022 Watch this if you have any questions about copyright. A very real and sometimes very serious law we, as artists, should ALL be aware of.

20.01.2022 What an awesome weekend! Congratulations everyone on producing these amazing creative fantasy dragons. Each one is unique, so good to see people using their imagination!!

20.01.2022 Well its all over with for another year...and the Henhouse Studio chicks did extremely well in the show again this year!! A HUGE congratulations to all who participated, I had so many wonderful comments from people, one judge said if this is what your students are producing now it is going to be mind boggling what the future holds for them. WELL DONE everyone!!

18.01.2022 Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and from us all here at the Gallery we wish you a Happy New Year! Another year has zoomed by, where did it go? There have been big changes at the Gallery, we are now The Rustic Emu Gallery & Enchanted Garden. We aim to have one of a kind original pieces - I will change the name eventually on this facebook page but it is not a straight forward process so this may take a couple of months. Once again we would like to thank all of thos...e who have helped and supported us, without you we would not still be here. The lovely ladies, Inge and Monika, at the Alpha 31 Gallery, Phil and David for all the hard work you have put in, all of my Henhouse chicks [and roosters!] and everyone else who have been involved in making the Gallery what it is today. Thank you everyone and we wish you all a Happy and safe new year <3 See more

16.01.2022 Why do people keep copying Paintings? I was asked the question why do people copy other Artists especially the famous ones? First its easy to do. If you have ...drawing skills and patience you can copy any painting it just takes time to learn to do. It must be easy because so many do it, it is a learned skill it is not being a talented Artist, it is being a factory worker. Second they avoid being responsible. When you copy someone else you do not have the responsibility of coming up with the original thought and idea, you are just like Xerox machine and copy off the painting. Of course many will tell you how talented you are and that your work is even better than the original, but its not its a copy and a fake. If people do not like the work you have an out because you can say, I did not do the original painting, I just copied it, I cannot be blamed. Third, its safe. When you copy the fear is quiet, because you are not pushing any boundaries because you know the painting can be done as you can see it and you are coping it and there will be no chance of failure, so the fear is quiet, the thief only gets involved when you try to do challenging things that could fail, it leaves us alone when we are being average and ordinary, copying is just that. Fourth, They legitimise it. The way people do this is to make changes, like change the background colour and add a distortion to the face. I saw a Mona Lisa that was perfectly done and then they deformed part of the face and had blood coming out, they said it was now an original, no it was still a copy but now a defaced copy. If the intent is to copy a successful painting from the past and to make it legitimate by changing some of it or defacing it, only persons being fooled are the painter and the person who buys it. Fifth, Its factory work. It is factory work by skilled workers not Artists, Artists do not do this they seek out original thought and creation. Yes we can all be influenced and inspired by great Art and admire great Artists, but that does not mean we should be their clones, our desire must be to seek out the new and challenging and create new original work and push the boundaries of Art. Create beautiful original paintings, thats got to better than being a copy of someone else. A copy no matter how well it is painted and it can be painted even better than the original, but it can never be an original painting ever, it is destined to always be a factory copy and no more. Now just because these copies sell does not make them legitimate Art, no it just means that someone bought them. They can call it Art if they want but it is not Art it is a copy and fake. You can cut a cow in half and call it Art but that does not make it Art, its just a cow cut in half. You can spread old rags around the gallery and call it Art, but it is not Art its old rags spread around a room. Art is something that comes from within, its not designed to shock and tantalise, it is to move peoples emotions, to touch their inner soul, to change them for the better. People are moved by Picassos Guernica and Rothkos Black paintings in the Rothko Chapel move people to tears, this is what great Art does, copying them will never capture the true essence of being the original Artist. Whatever you paint if it is yours, your original Art no matter how complex or simple, if it is born out of you, it is Art. Art is personal, it is alive and comes fresh from a real Artist. If you paint landscapes, then make them your landscapes, if you paint portraits then make them your portraits, seascapes or abstracts, paint them as only you can paint them. Original Art is your vision, your original thought, your feelings, your emotions expressed on paper or canvas or whatever medium that you work in. Great original Art comes from the personal struggle of sharing your vision of your world in your Art for the world to see. ---- oo0oo ---- Please feel free to share. 16.01.2022 A HUGE congratulations to Jess Pailthorpe!!! 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Reserve Champion of pottery in this years show! That is such an achievement. [May I just add Jess is 13 years old.] All of us at the Henhouse Studio are very proud of you :)

14.01.2022 [Pic from kids class] I love to see people using their imagination, this is Charlottes clown cat money box [with a top hat]. Instead of opting for a piggy bank 9 year old Charlotte came up with this idea. Brilliant work Charlotte!! In the words of Einstein... imagination is more important than knowledge, knowledge is limited, imagination encircles the world

14.01.2022 Another fantastic weekend at the Rustic Emu! Thank you ladies for making this such a great workshop...such creativity, well done!! Below are pics of everyone hard at it and finished projects

14.01.2022 The owl family have settled into their new home in the Enchanted Garden and seem to be quite happy! The Enchanted Garden is now open Friday to Sunday between 10am and 4pm, admission is $3 p/p. The garden is an ongoing project which I am constantly working on and adding to. Come see the owls and my other works and the garden in progress :)

14.01.2022 Wishing everyone a Happy Easter!! A pic of my rooster Fabio....Garry found him in the studio earlier up on the firing shelves checking out the pottery. Naughty boy!

12.01.2022 Some of the work I entered in the Fraser Coast Show.... Daphne torso tree first place in the torso section, Frog Trio first place in the pit firing section and Grand Champion Pottery, Turkish Delight highly commended in the pit firing section. Sorry, you will have to come to the Gallery to see the others!

11.01.2022 The re-purposing bug has bitten again! I had no more use for this old laminate table in my studio.....so I turned it into a tree table - I have yet to make the seats for it, which will be small stumps.

10.01.2022 Happy St Patricks Day!

09.01.2022 Feeling quite proud of these people! I love to see the classes put their imagination to work. Look at these gorgeous froggies from the night class and beautiful elephants from the day class, its so good to see them all so different and not just a copy of the original, well done!

09.01.2022 Another great workshop and fun weekend! Thanks everyone for coming along to the Henhouse Studio and creating your new garden piece. Top job done by all, just remember age is no barrier for these workshops...our 13 year old participant breezed through and completed her cat first!

08.01.2022 Happy New Year to all! This quote is from Alan Alda [aka Hawke Eye from M.A.S.H] So true....

07.01.2022 The newest addition to the Gallery. I love repurposing...this dresser came from a farm building, it is quite primitive, I am thinking depression era. After gurneying off the grease and grime, rat and bird poop and hornets nests I rusticated it!

07.01.2022 I have so many unfinished projects its always good to get one finished....here is Rayburn Rock. This is another re-purposed piece. There was an old slow combustion stove in our kitchen which had seen better days. It made its way to the garden a couple of years ago and has been waiting for me to get to give it a makeover [you can see the stove in the background of the Santa pic]. 06.01.2022 The Enchanted Garden had a visit today from the children at 5 Little Ducks Family Day Care. The kids had a great time exploring the garden and came up with a name for our newest addition Fergus the frog, with his dragonfly being named Strawberry! Thanks kids :)
