23.01.2022 I'm so lucky to have the best of both worlds. Living in a rural area, great community and a patchwork shop that allows me to interact with lovely people. Last week I had a super friendly customer, travelling through our great area, that purchased a piece of fabric to use as a tablecloth for her fold out table, probably enjoying happy hour! I offered to hem the ends for her, to which she readily agreed. Took all of about 10 mins and one very happy customer. Next morning, others in the group arrived, purchased more fabric and left with a request for another tablecloth - this one 3.2 metres long with an added border. It did take a little longer than 10 mins but the end result looked great. That's going to cover a LARGE table. Another happy customer that will only have good things to say about their travels through the West.

22.01.2022 If you're into cats and cross stitch, this may be handy. Marie McKenzie, I thought of you!

22.01.2022 Hi all. Just a reminder about the temporary closure of The Silver Thimble. I’m in Perth, just into my second week of ISO. This time next week I hope to be able to have contact with my family. Been keeping busy in the meantime, stitcheries and pieced a quilt top for a friend. My apologies to all my regular visitors from interstate, at this time of the year.

21.01.2022 It's a start! A little trickle.... these beautiful black and whites were ordered last November, along with others. Plus a gorgeous text backing - all in French! It feels silky and would be a dream to quilt I think.

20.01.2022 Thank you all so much for your understanding and cooperation yesterday at the shop. Everyone did the right thing - rang beforehand, arrived at their appointed time, completed their purchases and left with a sanitised hand wipe! Great to see a few UFO's coming out of the cupboard to be completed plus new projects to be commenced. Although the one customer at a time was the right thing to do, it felt a pretty weird as this is so foreign to all of us! When your local patchwork... shop is often a place to meet and greet, discuss your projects and often stay for a coffee and a chat! Hopefully, we will return to that sooner rather than later. I have started a new Facebook page called The Silver Thimble Patchwork Group. But be warned, I'm still learning the ropes!! It's a place where we can share and discuss projects and generally interact more readily about the topics and interests we all love. If you're not already a member, I noticed when I opened this page this morning, there is a "request to join" tab at the top. I tried it out, so I think I've just joined my own group! I didn't place it there myself, but I'm glad it appeared because there are a lot of people who follow this page but I don't have their contact details to invite them and may be interested. I have also appointed my daughter Kelly as an administrator - cos she knows so much more than me in this technical world! Thanks luv, you might live to regret that offer! To make this post just a little fabric related, it's been some time since I carried the Asian style prints (I think we all O'd on them a few years back) but finally have some new ones on the shelf. Plus jelly strips. See more

20.01.2022 Given the current climate, the committee have had to make the very difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Westech Field Days. The new dates will be the 7th & 8...th of September 2021. This decision was not made lightly and we apologise for the inconvenience. However, we felt that our duty of care, to not only our sponsors, exhibitors and patrons, but also to our local community, left us little choice. The committee extends their best wishes to you and your families, that you stay safe and well, and we hope to see you in 2021! Please help us get the word out and share, share, share!!!

19.01.2022 This week I will only be open on Thursday-one day only - and then I will be closed for about a month. I need to go to Perth for family reasons. My apologies for inconvenience, but family will always comes first. 2020 has a lot to answer for, don’t you think? Cheers.

18.01.2022 Appointments available after 11am tomorrow morning. Please ring beforehand 46511999 or mob 0427488765. Thank you for your cooperation.

16.01.2022 Spending the whole of Easter at home, so not back in the shop until next Wednesday. Will be enjoying family visits. The call for masks was loud and strong today, so with help from Allison and Sue, we were able to deliver some to Artesian Originals which will be available on Saturday. Remember every dollar for products made by the SAS girls goes to Barcaldine Aged Care.

10.01.2022 A small but welcome delivery of more Grunge fabric. The top four are repeats, the bottom two are newbies to the collection. There was also a bolt of white Grunge wide backing. Hopefully, more soon.

10.01.2022 A couple of big shout outs and thank you to local Barcaldine businesses. Barcaldine Post Office has just received 4th place in Queensland for customer service. Should have been 1st in my opinion! We recently sent quilts to WA for fire victims and when Lenice found out what we were doing, she took care of the postage at NO cost to us. Not Australia Post - our local Barcy Post Office! Every Saturday, since Netti and Bronty took over the Barcy Bakery, we've had smoko delivered for our SAS ladies. (Saturday afternoon Sewers). Thanks and appreciation to all. Love our community.

06.01.2022 This past week has really ramped up with lots of tourists in the area. So good to see after last year. I will be in the shop tomorrow , as per normal trading hours, however I will be away for a few days teaching in Moranbah. My sewing friends will be opening the shop from 9 to 2 on Thursday and Friday. Saturday, the shop will be closed. Sorry for any inconvenience, but if you're in Barcaldine for the Tree of Knowledge celebrations, there will be plenty to keep you busy. Trading hours for the following week, will be as per usual, Wed to Sat 9 to 4.

05.01.2022 This could be fun.

05.01.2022 There have been many new "likes" of The Silver Thimble lately, for which I am truly grateful. I'm guessing they may be people passing through our great town of Barcy, and found that the shop is temporarily closed. The notice on my door advises that I needed to visit my brother in Perth who was very unwell. Unfortunately, he passed away on the 22nd July and as a consequence I am still in WA. At this stage I'm booked to return to Qld on the 8th August but I don't know yet if I have to do 2 weeks of isolation at home. I will keep you updated as details come to hand. Thank you again and I hope we can meet in the not too distant future.

03.01.2022 The roads are open and the visitors are trickling through. Nice to catch up with some long time return customers today. I must say thanks to all the recent "likers" of this page and welcome. I had visitors from Innisfail, Cairns, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Beaudesert as well as a steady stream of locals. At this stage I'm only trading Thursday to Saturday but this will be reviewed at the end of the month and may well change to Wednesday to Saturday, the original hours. A few new fabrics arrived today. The cutest nursery prints! Those baby lambs would certainly need their little jumpers on at the moment!

03.01.2022 Here is a detail shot of just 4 of the 7 beautiful quilts sent to us from Barcaldine in QLD, just a bit east of Longreach. Sandy who once lived in WA, runs the ...@The Silver Thimble there, along with a small group of regulars, also managed to send a dozen quilts to NSW last year and 20 to flood victims in Nth Qld last year. So yes, a pretty amazing bunch of women sending warm hugs via a quilt to those who need it. In Sandy's words, anyone traveling the "big loop", once we all feel confident to get back in our cars and caravans, will be very welcome to call in anytime to say hello. See more

02.01.2022 Thank you once again, and welcome to all the new "likes" of The Silver Thimble. Since my time away in Perth, I'm finally getting back to my usual trading hours which are Wed to Sat 9 to 4. (Unless I decide to play hooky which I sometimes do when family calls!) There have been precious few, new arrivals of fabric of late, but this is a cutie. Summer Picnic. Plus, for those making masks, I now have plenty of elastic!

02.01.2022 Time to top up the Christmas fabrics.

02.01.2022 Another great (busy) Thursday. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who has continued to support my small business during these different times. I lose my last grandchildren this weekend, with all returning to normal school routines, so next week I will be trading from Thursday to Saturday 9 to 4. I'll review those opening times in a month. I figure that I'll only be servicing locals so that will probably be sufficient, but if we need more days, bring it on! Thank you all once again.

01.01.2022 Today was my first day back in the shop for almost 6 weeks! Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding while I was away in Perth. It was a quiet, no frills, re-opening, but I couldn't be more pleased with the day. Busy, busy with locals and visitors aplenty. For the moment, the trading days will remain Thursday to Saturday 9 to 4.

01.01.2022 Finally getting caught up on the FQ cutting.
