25.01.2022 One of my educational goals at the moment is to teach the children about gardening & how to care for plants so today we potted up some little plants discussing as we did which part had to go into the soil to grow roots & that we had to water them as they need water just like us. My little helper told me he would try to find some worms because they are good for plants, this lead to a discussion about worms. He also said he likes doing grown up things

24.01.2022 After many tries we finally got the bead to roll between the bin & the bench

23.01.2022 Last week we had a rock family move in at my place. The children explored them with interest. One of my boys even made an elaborate new house for some of them to move into.

23.01.2022 A lot of the children within my group have been very interested in diggers so I have set up a construction site to develop this interest.

22.01.2022 The children this week have been enjoying some indoor cubby play with this fabulous tent/cubby that my lovely mum Margaret Blacker made for us, we are very lucky & it came just in the nick of time with this horrible cold weather.

22.01.2022 Last week the boys played a fun game that our weeping tree was a volcano & the red scoria rocks were the larva, they were rescuing each other so to extend their volcano interest we made an exploding volcano in the sandpit. They were amazed.

22.01.2022 Today we made a new batch of dough using cornflour & hair conditioner something I've been wanting to try for ages, it feels amazing. One boy pulled a small piece of dough off & told me it looked like a butterfly, another rolled it into a ball & said it looked like a marshmallow. The boys ended up making . The recipe is 2 cups of cornflour to 1 cup of conditioner, need together...that's it

20.01.2022 One of today's hit experiences has been a sensory rice jungle.

20.01.2022 One of my young boys enjoying exploring the new sensory bottles I made last night. One of the comments he made was that they were amazing.

20.01.2022 Some of my older children have become interested in letters so I set up a game of fish for the letters in the sensory tub.

18.01.2022 The boys have been interested in the builders tools of late so I set up this little experience with hammers, nails & oasis to practice their hammering skills. Great for fine motor skills.

18.01.2022 This little guy today wanted to make a leaf necklace so I provided the threading supplies & he did the rest. He excitedly gave it to Tanya from our office when she came to visit then proceeded to make another for his mum

18.01.2022 After we finished gardening we investigated cause & effect with some kitchen objects, coconut halves & water. We constructed different structures to make a waterfall.

18.01.2022 Books were the winner today. These little cuties were engaged in our little book nook for a large part of the day. Wonderful early literacy skills shinning through.

17.01.2022 Some of the children are showing an interest in learning their names so I set up this name table. The boys today found the letters for their names & then decided to do their friends names as well.

17.01.2022 This is a little creative experience I have put together to help develop the children's hand-eye coordination. After hanging the bits together on the hooks they made glasses & necklaces. I love it when the children come up with their own ideas of how they can use the resources.

17.01.2022 Some more block play pics.

16.01.2022 I have decided to try something new at The Treehouse FDC...I have a lot of books, too many to fit on the book shelf so I thought I could try lending them out to the children. So a big thank you goes out to my mum, Margaret Blacker for making us some special library bags. This morning the children all chose the bag they liked & then selected a book to take home to read with their families. They are very excited.

15.01.2022 The children have been making connections between big & little of late so I set up a big & little sorting experience.

15.01.2022 Experimenting with cause & effect, changing the angle of the pipe to see if it makes the bead roll faster or slower also trying to get the bead to make it all the way to the kitchen & if lucky into the dinning room. So much fun.

15.01.2022 One of this weeks experiences is exploring the objects on a mirror tray. This young man was captivated with this experience for over an hour. He was very creative & extended his own play by adding the farm animals.

13.01.2022 This morning the boys helped me make a new batch of play dough which they then enjoyed playing with. One child made 3 yellow ducks which led to the singing of '3 little ducks went out one day', one of the other boys who had finished playing with the dough decided to use the plastic cups as his ducks.

12.01.2022 On these cold winter days block play is always a great way to pass the day. Today all the children got involved & were very creative. They added rocks, wood bits, cars, farm animals & dinosaurs. I love the way these children all think very differently.

12.01.2022 One of my fantastic dads' made this mud kitchen for me, a huge thank you goes out to Pete Collins for his generosity. The kids are going to love this. At the moment I've set it up on the veranda as we are supposed to get some more rain, hoping this area will stay dry enough that the kids can still go outside to play.

11.01.2022 Recently I have had some children interested in the rocks they find in the yard so I set up a discovery table. It has taken 2 days but with some perseverance the children found what was hidden in the player of Paris.

09.01.2022 This experience grabbed the children's attention as soon as they arrived this morning, great for building hand-eye coordination & numeracy skills as we counted how many tree rounds we posted. Lots of fun...Thanks Leesa Scanes for sourcing the formula tin for me.

08.01.2022 So we went on an outing today to Kid City at Mitchell in Canberra, we met up with our friends from the 2 Gundaroo family daycare educators homes & had a fantastic time together. The kids told me it was the best trip every, so glad they had loads of fun making new friends, climbing, sliding & crawling through all the equipment & have already asked if maybe some day we could go there again. Thanks to Julia for giving me the use of the Country Kids Club bus to allow me to broaden the children's curriculum & help them develop a sense of belonging in their community.
