23.01.2022 I am absolutely thrilled and delighted to share my surprise win in the Saving our Species 'Name our Species' Competition, for the endangered wattle- Acacia meiantha. This gorgeous species will now be commonly known as Barradam-bang or Bright Star wattle! I am truly honoured to have inspired the naming of this wattle species, which recognises the indigenous Wiradjuri connection to an endangered relative of our National Floral Emblem- the golden wattle; a symbol of unity, remem...brance and reflection. The resilience of the wattle to droughts, winds and bushfires represents the spirit of the Australian people and the flowering wattle displays our national colours of green and gold. The winners announcement on National Threatened Species Day, 7th September, coincided with my birthday- a wonderful surprise gift, creating a lasting and profound memory! My heartfelt thanks to the 'Saving our Species' Team and Congratulations to all of the winners!! May all of our efforts contribute to saving our endangered species! #savingourspecies #threatenedspeciesday #wattle #australiasfloralemblem #biodiversity #wildidea #biodiversityloss #natureconnection #natureconservation #indigenouslanguages #biodiversity2020 #aboriginalaustralia #conservation #citizenscience #na

Say Good Morning to 'The Morning Star' or is it 'Star Burst' or perhaps it's 'The Caper-Tee Rex' hiding in the bushes... We have high hopes that our dedicated NSW conservationists and the 'Saving our Species' Team can save this extremely rare and endangered plant species from extinction!

12.01.2022 Look at this fascinating 'Donkey' orchid! Diuris bracteata was presumed extinct until recently!! For over 100 years it was only known from the original collection near Gladesville, Sydney. Our suggested common name of 'Big Ear' refers to the two large petals at the top of the flower, known as donkey ears. The aboriginal words for 'Big' and 'Ear' are taken from the Dharug dialect of The Sydney Language.... Does this sound like an suitable name? Please speak up, I can't 'ear you!!
