24.01.2022 Here's just a few pics from the dot art painting, zendoodling and abstract dot painting workshops I held over the past couple of weeks. (My bad, I completely forgot to take photos at the Monday night dot painting workshop so had to rely upon a couple of people to send me a pic of their work). The classes were small which gave everyone the opportunity to have my undivided attention and get really engaged in doing their artwork. Some really beautiful pieces were created and fo...r most this was their first attempt at doing it. These workshops aren't art classes as such, though you can learn a skill or improve upon one you may already have, but more about getting mindful using art to focus your attention and thoughts which induces a state of calm and relaxation. Everyone gave 100%, and all agreed that doodling and dotting are definitely addictive and above all meditative. Next Saturday, 3rd October at 10.30am at the YMCA Springfield Lakes Community Centre, is 'Paint a Sacred Dreamcatcher'......there are places still available and all art supplies and guidance by me is included in the price of $40. You will take home an original acrylic painting which you'll be proud to display. Come along with a friend and enjoy a couple of hours away from the family, pressures of life and indulge yourself in mindful creativity. Jump onto the events page, tickets available from Humantix. A donation from the ticket price goes to a nominated charity which is supporting literacy and writing for young girls in disadvantaged countries.



23.01.2022 What is Zendoodling? Zendoodling is a combination of using patterns and negative space within a structured framework to create some really amazing designs. You don’t overthink Zendoodling nor strive for perfection. It also encourages the practice of mindfulness by getting you to focus on the creative process rather than the end product.... So, what exactly is mindfulness. Simply put, Mindfulness is a way of life. You focus your attention on what is happening, or on whatever you’re doing in that particular moment while letting go of conscious thoughts and becoming more ‘aware’ of your actions, your breathing, the sights, smells and sounds around you, the feel of something you’re holding and such like while not allowing external thoughts to come into your mind. It helps with general relaxation, stress, anxiety and depression. You become more accepting and less judgemental, a better listener, a better problem solver, more insightful and less close-minded. You interact with the moment in a thoughtful manner which leads to greater awareness of your thoughts, your feelings and the sensations experienced developing a greater understanding of behaviour and action. It increases your connection with non-critical observations of life. My workshops will help you become more mindful by using techniques like meditation, breathe, body scan, acceptance and gratefulness, mindful seeing, manifestation and touch/feel/smell/taste. I combine these with creative art projects like zendoodling, drawing a mandala and dot painting which utilize repetition patterns to highly focus the mind and release endorphins. Other art therapy techniques include journaling, painting, collage, writing and vision boards to names a few. 21.01.2022 Mindfulness isn't some whoo whoo hippy shit that means you're going to be walking around in a sort of self-induced trance all the time. Quite the opposite..... Mindfulness gives you greater control of your own mind. It helps you deal with the difficulties you may experience daily and helps you see things with clarity. It's a great coping mechanism for fear and anxiety.... If you shy away from problems because you feel you're unable to deal with them emotionally, mindfulness aims to help you form an easier relationship with these types of deep emotions. 11.01.2022 This Friday I'll be facilitating a gathering of lovely women, who are friends of my mum in their twilight years, widowed and living on their own. The feedback is that they are so excited and really looking forward to it. My parents (who are very lucky to still have each other and be living independently) are hosting it at their home on the Gold Coast (Dad is on parking and setting up tables duties). ... We'll be starting with morning tea for a half-hour, followed by a healing relaxation session to ease any stresses they may be experiencing around COVID, allowing them to make space for their creative energy to flow. The dot art session will be creating this mandala on a bamboo plate, (or at least their individual versions of it). This is a great activity for elderly people, helping them with cognitive thinking, being present in the moment and fulfilling a creative void. A sausage sizzle will be on the menu for lunch, and maybe a cheeky glass of wine too This is part of the self-care package I am facilitating for older people who are perhaps living on their own and don't get out as much as they'd like, especially with the restrictions and fears for their health around COVID. It enables them to come together in a social environment, which is a safe space for them to chat, laugh, create and get some much needed nurturing. If you think this is something an elderly person you know would enjoy and benefit from, then let me know. I'd be happy to try and set it up depending on circumstances.
