22.01.2022 RE: Alpha Dog Training Group Classes - COVID-19 Update. Hi everyone, As I am sure everyone is aware, social distancing restrictions have severely crippled our g...roup training business and left us with little options to provide ongoing group classes, but we have done our best to get some form of instructional information out there with the limited resources at our disposal. All Alpha Dog Training instructors were laid off immediately back in mid April when the final decision was made to discontinue group classes - we were not able to access Jobkeeper for them and we went immediately to a zero income status. The videos on this Facebook page have been produced by our full time trainers working at Alpha Doggy PlayCare for our Alpha Dog Training members. There are also many other videos posted by our part-time trainers showing various aspects of the system. Throughout the last few months there has been so much change and speculation relating to the easing and then tightening of restrictions relating to our industry and there has been a lot of guesswork and interpretation as to what we were and were not allowed to offer dog owners as permitted training services. On 2 August 2020 our Boarding School For Dogs service was also closed down until stage 4 restrictions can be relaxed, with all dogs being sent home from the kennels at various stages of their courses to resume as soon as we can possibly do so. I would like to apologise for the lack of options relating to group classes, this is not an easy service to replicate online as the feedback process to individuals in an online group is neither practical or effective. We are also unable to pay our instructors for their services so we do not have enough staff at this time to run these sessions. The variables affecting the taking of group classes, particularly for beginner owners and dogs at the lower levels, is simply impossible to manage and offer help effectively when we can’t be with you and your dog in person and in the moment. Dog training instruction relies so much on either immediate feedback or the opportunity to ask an owner to reset the situation under direct supervision of a trainer. This simply cannot be done properly in group video conferencing formats - the technology itself has too many limitations. However, we do have many instructional videos on this Facebook page (see the Teaching Videos album) that relate to the early stages of the method, with the basics for each exercise demonstrated and explained in detail. Also, as mentioned by Danni in a reply to a recent thread on this topic, we are looking to post videos relating to Canine Good Behaviour Shaping (manners), hopefully over the coming weeks. These videos cannot replace a group class with instructors present to help in person, but they have helped many members to varying degrees based on how much they’ve attended classes previously and how well they can translate the techniques to their dog. Further to this, we have been available throughout every stage of the lockdown for over-the-phone help and have done so with many, many members, both in relation to the instructional videos and for other behavioural and training problems. Please watch the videos and try to train your dogs in the basics - this would be close to the same as watching a live instructor running through the exact same information anyway, where you would still be unable to receive immediate and personal feedback in an online group setting. We are available via telephone for advice if you need some specific help relating to your dog, but even this can sometimes be less than effective without actually being able to offer the more hands-on help that would occur in a group class or one-on-one environment. We will do our best and have done so for many of our members so far. Many businesses in many industries have been dramatically affected by the pandemic, with some being able to change their service delivery where the technology has allowed them to do so. Not every service can translate into the online medium for many varying reasons and I hope our members can understand the predicament that has been thrust upon us all. I would like to thank you for the kind support an understanding coming from so many members over the last four months or so. Many have found themselves in similar situations with their own businesses or are employees of such businesses. Many have lost their jobs and all are desperate to get back into training classes again, but they understand our predicament. Alpha Dog Training only ceased group classes because of Government restrictions and will return as soon as we are permitted to do so by the Government. We have our hands tied for now. Stay safe and keep an eye on our Facebook pages and website for messages relating to when we can start back at group training. Kind regards, Greg Fontana Director of Training & System Development The Alpha Canine Group

16.01.2022 UPDATE ON ALPHA WEEKLY CLASSES: Hi again everyone, So the end of stage 4 has seen a lot of businesses open up that had been forced to close during the height of the pandemic here in Victoria, all because of the government hotel quarantine mismanagement. That being said, there are still a lot of restrictions on group activities that are still preventing Alpha Dog Training from resuming our group training classes.... We are trying to get our puppy pre-school up and running as that model allows us to run smaller, specialised training groups, but these are very different from our normal class structures. Our regular Sunday morning and Wednesday evening classes cater to larger numbers than are permitted by the government at this stage and it is looking like there won't be enough easing of these restrictions before we would normally close for the Christmas break. To that end, it is looking like normal Alpha group classes won't resume until the new year - 2021. We will let everyone know the date once we have a clear understanding of what the government will be allowing us to do, but it should hopefully be back to normal for the first week of January, which is when we normally resume training each year. Please keep an eye on our Facebook pages and our website for re-start details. We look forward to seeing everyone again and getting back to helping you with your dogs as soon as we possibly can. Kind regards, Greg Fontana Director of Training & System Development
