24.01.2022 Wow, its been a week now of challenges. You can dip in and out, catch up whenever or make it your mission to complete each one every day! I am finding the ritual of making, creating & focusing really rewarding. Each challenge has its own benefits, connections and insights. This one is about opening our eyes to natures beauty and the abundance of design inspiration in our backyard. It can help you see the incredible detail around you with fresh eyes. @ Hilton

23.01.2022 Here is a bit of succulents and house plant inspiration for our Thursday night workshop. You will learn the stitches to create our original design but this is just the beginning of coming up with your own colour scheme and plants of your dreammmmsssss! https://www.theartloft.com.au//embroider-a-shelf-of-succul

23.01.2022 Day 5. Sprout! Do you think this is creative? I do. Life itself is a creative process, a wonder to tune into! Just contemplate the notion that a seed is programmed with an entire map of a tree. You have the power to wet it, activate it and watch it come to life. When you eat it... know that you are eating life. Full of enzymes and vitamins. This is a 2-3 day process. ... You dont need anything to do this- i just sit them in a container but you can try a jar with a cloth to help drainage. Important to rinse at least two times a day and eat as soon as you see a couple mm of root. I also soaked almonds and whizzed them into mylk! Whats in your cupboard? I found mungbeans, brown lentils, buckwheat & almonds.

22.01.2022 The first bunch of people today choosing their material for clutch making. Pretty exciting over here!

21.01.2022 Here we go! #creativechallenge begins. Your mission should you choose to accept it... Tag me in your stories or posts or join the facebook group to share.

21.01.2022 Write in the first person. It can start with: I am... I feel... I believe... Dont be shy to set your goal real high. You can keep this one to yourself. @ Perth, Western Australia

20.01.2022 Okay come on.... can you get any cuter???? Half of our clutch makers with their finished art. Thanks to the amazing Kristy from @thefarlands - what a great facilitator!

20.01.2022 This can be really rewarding when you realise the things you can drink. Things I have found DELICIOUS and good for you in teas: Rosemary, Basil, Thyme, Mint, Lemon, Ginger, Cloves, Fennel, Berries, Apple, Cucumber... Feel free to do a little googling to see the amazing benefits of each ingredient and please check there are no side effects. Avoid anything in gardens that may be sprayed.... Look forward to seeing what signature tea you blend! See more

20.01.2022 Get dotty! This is a meditative way to draw, using only dots. I suggest starting small and playing with your dot spacing to achieve the form, concentrate on light and shadow. Move on to something more challenging if you feel inspired. Please show me your work! @ Perth, Western Australia

19.01.2022 I am starting a daily creative challenge! For the past few days I have been doing little things that Ive noticed have made a big difference to my anxiety levels. I found myself more connected with my community, my child and feeling a joy in each day despite being away from so much. Each day Ill set a simple task that you could take on! Then encourage you to take a photo and put it in the comments so we can all share our experience or result. It is like a small goal for the day when we might feel like we are floating aimlessly. It is also a way to find joy in this present time. Ill keep this on Facebook and Insta for now and see how it goes!

18.01.2022 Hello! From me (Nat) & Bump (due in 2 weeks!) & seedlings... Like so many of my peers I am accepting the new paradigm where in-person experiences are on pause. And thats ok for me... The Art Loft was a cool experiment and experience and I was due now to have a big break while I focus on my second bubba. (And our garden now!) We have our last workshop scheduled for tomorrow and Im just deciding this morning if it will go ahead - but outside in the garden. I just dont really know what to do! Thoughts anyone? And over the next few weeks Ill keep thinking about virtual craft experiences to offer. There are so many resources online but it can be hard to navigate it alone... so stay in touch and keep chatting and we can have some fun together as this weird new reality keeps revealing itself

15.01.2022 I am very sad to finish up term one with a blank but Ill try to turn this absence of a workshop into a seed of hope and inspiration for some alternative creativity! I am actually flowing with creative solutions for at-home workshops now. For today though, the best thing we can do it play it safe, err on the side of caution and wait in the wings. No regrets ok! Stay safe everyone, stay away from people and instead find joy in nature, stories, art and meditation. Lots of love. X Nat

15.01.2022 MAKE TEA PAINTS You might just have black tea but if you make different strengths you'll have a tonal range. Or you might want to try spices like turmeric or paprika. I used green, black, rooibos & rosehip tea. I didn't have a brush so I just used the blunt end of a skewer to do dots and some painting. I loved the way the colours can blend together and how you can potentially layer if you let it dry.

15.01.2022 Sunday - a day for rest. No challenge today. Be lazy, be kind, take time for cuppas and just breathing.

14.01.2022 Add a little mystery to someone's day. The idea is to make something delightful and curious for a stranger. What pretty thing can you make from things in your house? Send out some good vibes with no expectations. ... tip: avoid food or things that look suspicious! See more

12.01.2022 Day 3. Try writing a haiku. Its challenge is in its simplicity. Can you put together words that create an emotion? This is a Japanese artform. Its usually an observational, nature based description that should feel illuminating. Share yours with me.

12.01.2022 Im wondering if anyone would be keen on getting a notification for the daily creative challenge? Like an email message? This way you dont need to be searching facebook or instagram every day. Let me know and I can set one up if enough interest. X Nat

11.01.2022 No.9 Try contour drawing today. Any pen & any paper will do. The challenge here is to relax! So don't panic and question yourself as you draw. If anything, let the pen guide you and see what happens.... The results can surprise you as you invent new ways to get around the page. @ Perth, Western Australia

11.01.2022 Day 4. A weekend challenge! Nature Art. Create your own spectrum. Then design an arrangement and photograph using phone. My tip: put paper on a chopping board to place your design on, then photograph it by a window or in shade from above. ... @ Perth, Western Australia See more

11.01.2022 What can you use around you? What word would you like to create? The objects can be touching or not, but it definitely is an 'art' to spacing them in a way that fills in the gaps just like a puzzle piece. This is like making a mosaic but with found objects. If you want to go crazy build your word on a large background with natural light (and no wind!) ... When you photograph it, you often see it in a different light. It always looks impressive when you shrink it down and send it! @ Fremantle, Western Australia See more

10.01.2022 SOUND ON! The lovely Ana, our embroidery teacher from @seasilkstitches made a video with her hubby last night that captures the pleasure of stitching. This video celebrates the slowing down, savouring of time and the bliss of painting with thread! This workshop is This Thursday night. A few tix left for this one Come enjoy!

09.01.2022 Start small, let it grow. Try doing one that is just free flowing with no rules. Try another one on a theme, like nature, flowers or kitchen items! You could also try a mood and imagine your mandala is taking shape based on that. Eg: energetic, peaceful, grateful... I tried to use 'mark up' on my phone to add colour to one of mine. If you want to go ALL OUT then add colour to your design.... Here is more detail if you want to spend more time on this: https://www.art-is-fun.com/how-to-draw-a-mandala Sign up for email notification here: https://www.theartloft.com.au/daily-creative-challenge/

09.01.2022 Hey! Its your Day 6 creative job! This one is a beauty, might take you right back to being a kid. It will certainly get you thinking about how to use the resources around you to make something interesting. And on top of that, you get to send your little art to someone you havent seen in a while. I used a tissue box as my base and rac magazine landscape images (ironic!). It helped me to sketch a little geometric design first and just cut the shapes out.

07.01.2022 DRAW CHARACTERS This an exercise in 'chance' to inspire possibilities you might not think of. The idea can be applied to any art to help generate new ideas. Feel free to be as silly as you like with your choices. Have fun!... I realise a lot of these challenges can be done with and by children which is wonderful that you can share this fun with them. But I believe it is important for adults to enjoy 'playing' and pushing their often forgotten creativity. If you think this is just for kids you would benefit from finding your own inner child. 07.01.2022 Loved sitting back and watching Ana weave her magic on the weekend. I think Ill take a seat on Thursday night so I can enjoy the cheese platter and stitch some beautiful succulents! Cant wait.

06.01.2022 The lovely Ana, our embroidery teacher from @seasilkstitches made a video with her hubby that captures the pleasure of stitching. 05.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone. What does it mean to you? I am not really sure as a non-religious person. But I like how it brings family together and how traditions can be enjoyed and laid with your own meaning. Joy for my child, gift giving and self-reflection.... Im currently in a mode of trying to grow a stronger faith... faith in things being ok, finding more than hope in my week - instead I am growing a trust that all will be great. As I wait for my baby to arrive earthside this need for faith grows stronger! Putting anxiety and uncontrollables to the side and instead choosing to focus on positives (with eyes wide open). The choice is ours. We choose what we believe. Have a beautiful Sunday See more

03.01.2022 Make a ball of bliss. Get creative foraging your own pantry to invent your version of a healthy delicious treat for every time you wanna pop a little endorphin in your mouth (for me this is about 8 times a day right now!) As long as you include: nuts/seeds for bulk, dates/dried fruit for sweet & stickiness. And it holds as a ball (in fridge), you win! Other options include: cocoa, coconut, peanut butter, salt, peppermint...

02.01.2022 FIND THE UNSEEN I was taking a walk down the same streets I've walked many times before and was almost bored at the idea of yet another same-same walk. But with this challenge in mind, I started HUNTING to try to surprise myself, and it happened. I actually saw things I hadn't noticed before. Here they are.... When you think you've seen it all, you realise, you haven't. Go on, surprise yourself! See more

02.01.2022 Here we go! Your first creative challenge. This afternoon or tomorrow, give it a go. Post your pic below.

02.01.2022 Day 2. I love picking from the garden and creating arrangements for my house, often with unsuspecting plants, even those that are dried or weeds. When carefully arranged, even the ordinary has beauty. If you make more than one, wrap and anonymously pop on a neighbours doorstep to give them something to ponder @ Perth, Western Australia
