I began drawing pictures as a child trying, lets say, to get as close to a lion as possible; people would laugh, so I decided to go for the laugh. I cant draw normally. 18.01.2022 The long weekend calls for some rejuvenation! GOSH! DO I LOOK AS OLD AS ALL THAT! In 1948, Dr. Seuss purchased La Jollas Towera rundown observation structure atop Mt. Soledad. He built his home around it, making the Tower his studio. Because Ted worked from home, he lightheartedly called himself a bird watcher on the social scene. His vantage point of La Jollas social comings and goings gave him a lush playground for concocting elaborate gags on his stylish neighbors..., as well as for teasing them artistically, eventually leading to a series of eleven known artworks collectively called The La Jolla Birdwomen. 12.01.2022 KING OF THE POND - 50TH ANNIVERSARY PRINT The 1958 book, Yertle the Turtle, has a little-known and somewhat surprising origin. In a 1987 interview Ted said: Yertle was Hitler or Mussolini. Originally, Yertle had a moustache, but I took it off. During the run-up to WWII, FDR was battling the isolationist America First supporters who were seeking to keep us out of the war. Ted believed American isolationism was not an option and that Hitler needed to be stopped. He fought these battles with hundreds of WWII editorial cartoons during 1941 and 42, and ultimately with his service in the Army as a captain in Frank Capras celebrated wartime documentary filmmaking unit. Adapted posthumously from the illustration for the 1958 book, Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories.
