18.01.2022 Our associate artist Reuben Lewis features on the first episode the Quiet Listening Series with his world premiere solo work 'The House is Empty'. Curated by The SUBSTATION, Room40 and AAO artistic director Peter Knight with beautiful narration by Jo Lloyd .... When you attend a show at The SUBSTATION, there are a series of actions taken to shift your focus and ready you for the work you are about to see. Taking in the building on arrival, reading a guide in the foyer, and entering a gallery or event space - these rituals are designed to prepare you. We are interested in how this experience can best be delivered to you online, to provide a moment of respite and contemplation during what continues to be a challenging time. QUIET LISTENING will arrive every Friday morning in the form of new voice and sound works. Each week, dance artist Jo Lloyd will begin each recording with a spoken reflection to prepare you to relax, rest and listen. . 18.01.2022 We are so excited to hear material from our Solo Series in the next world premiere featured in week 7 of LISTENING. Homeostasis is a remix by Tilman Robinson of a solo improvisation recorded by Mindy Meng Wang Music for the Australian Art Orchestra Solo Series (2019) This piece was made in the final throes of Melbourne’s second wave COVID lockdown (in fact, the news restrictions were lifting as I was completing the mastering). Unable to enter my studio for 3 months, it was m...ade in a home shared office space surrounded by other people and synthesisers - a far cry from how I would usually make introspective work of this nature. Working with Mindy’s guzheng was a rare treat in an otherwise mundane time. Tilman Robinson, 27 October 2020 Tilman’s remix feels to me like I’m falling into a spiritual world of my own thoughts... watching glooming tracks in the sky as time passes on a winter evening and the extension of the universe from above." Mindy Meng Wang, 27 October 2020 Curated by The SUBSTATION, Room40 and Australian Art Orchestra, LISTENING arrives every Friday morning in the form of new voice and sound works. Each week, dance artist Jo Lloyd begins the recording with a spoken reflection to prepare you to relax, rest and listen.
