18.01.2022 The brilliant Simon Dow, our resident choreographer and classical teacher, continues to guide our students with leadership as they train from home. Did you know that Simon was the first male dancer to win the Australian Cecchetti Junior Medal? Simon graduated from The Australian Ballet School where after he went on to dance with The Australian Ballet. After building on his repertoire, Simon ventured overseas to take up positions with the Stuttgart Ballet and Washington Balle...t. He eventually returned to Australian to dance as a Principal Artist. Highlights of Simon’s career have included making frequent guest appearances at some North America’s prestigious dance festivals including the Spoleto Festival, the International Festival of Danca in Cuba and the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Simon has also worked with renowned choreographers including George Balanchine, Maurice Bejart, Glen Tetley and Jriri Kylian. Notably, Simon has acted as the Associate Artistic Director of the Washington Ballet and the Artistic Director of the West Australian Ballet where he commissioned a number of new works. 02.01.2022 The challenges of 2020 have been many, but have ultimately sharpened the ambition of our students. Ballet is not something you do alone in the kitchen, but the lockdown has given me the opportunity to explore and focus on what draws me to dance. For me, it’s really the artistry and the strength in every single movement. - Level 8 student Maidie Widmer. In today’s The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and Brisbane Times, Maidie discusses her ambition to embark on a European ba...llet audition tour in 2021 and lovingly reflects on the special bond with her grandmother that dance so profoundly nurtured.
