22.01.2022 IKEA trolley hack! So recently I found myself needing an extra space in the room for loose parts play, but I didn’t want to add another table that would need to take up a permanent space in the room. One day I was looking at an @ikea_australia kitchen trolley we have in our lounge room and the idea hit me! If I buy another one and just don’t construct the top level it would be the perfect size and height for what I need! It even fits the medium Trofast tubs in the top lay...er perfectly! 14.01.2022 New home corner! So I’ve literally been mulling over this recent purchase for the last 4 years! But finally decided to bite the bullet and set up a permanent home corner in our playroom. Over the years I’ve seen how the cooking/cafe/shop role play set ups have always been a big hit with the Beans, and is something that always gets lots of use every day so it makes sense to dedicate a space to a role play area. I have to be very smart and take time to think carefully about... how I use our indoor play space as it’s not huge and I like to maximize the space I have to it’s best potential. I’m really happy with how this home corner turned out, and I’m planning to add our baby dolls, high chair, and cot to it as well. 14.01.2022 Balloon pull I set this up as an activity for hand strengthening (pulling the balloons off the board) and fine motor skills (taking the tape off). Miss M worked out that taking the tape off was an easier way of getting the balloon off than pulling and she then proceeded to peel the masking tape off each balloon and stick it back onto the board. 07.01.2022 The car run we’ve had our for the last few weeks was such a hit I decided to adapt it rather than put it away. I received a new Bumpa mat in the mail which happened to come in a perfect long sturdy cardboard box which made the perfect tunnel to attach to our FLISAT table. 04.01.2022 Since we have only toddlers in care during lockdown in Melbourne I decided to turn one of our play tables over and attach a large magnetic whiteboard to it to make another toddler accessible space to set up various invitations. The first is an invitation to play with magnatiles on a vertical surface. Great for fine motor skills, colour recognition, talk about shapes, and creativity. When I think about our day care resources magnatiles are something I would never do without! 02.01.2022 Water play with shells This is one of my go-to water play set ups at the moment for these two, since whenever we go outside the first thing miss M says is water?? Water?? Water?. I have two boxes of shells that I use for sensory outdoor play, big shells and small shells, and another one for indoors...because I collect shells! (or maybe hoard is a more accurate word! ). The big shells make great loose parts in the water tray for pretend soups or potions, filling containe...rs, using with tongs for transferring (Miss M has recently started working on this skill!) or spoons for scooping. Plus they look so much more beautiful when in their natural wet state.
