25.01.2022 Waverley Council is urging people to stay safe this weekend with cyclonic conditions forecast to impact the NSW coastline from tomorrow. Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte beaches will experience a large east and north-easterly cyclone swell, with conditions unlikely to ease until late on Sunday. Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said surf and swell conditions will be hazardous for coastal activities including swimming, surfing and rock fishing.... In the likely event that our beaches and Bronte Pool is closed, do not enter the water, and if you witness an in-water emergency, please inform our Council Lifeguards, or if it is after hours, dial Triple Zero (000) and ask for the Police, Mayor Masselos said. I implore people to observe this warning and follow instructions from our Lifeguards at all times. Please do not put your life at risk or the lives of our Lifeguards. @waverleycouncil

22.01.2022 Theres no doubt that Sculpture by the Sea is a great event, and sure, it brings a lot of people and money to the local community, but jeepers creepers David Handley loves overstating its importance. Its a 3-week (out of 52) art show mate, set to one of the most beautiful backdrops in the world. And its definitely not the art show that makes that backdrop beautiful. Also, year-round accessibility and usability for everyone is far more important than 3 weeks of David and hi...s posse of artists being unhappy with the aesthetic of the area. A good artist will work and adapt to that new aesthetic, like it or not. If David and his mates want to take their toys and play elsewhere, let them. Lets just start another, better, less whingey and political sculpture event, run by the community. Less banking ads and corporate hoo-ha, more sponsors who align with the values of artists and the local area (not big banks - though its hard to write that without depressing sense of irony). Ill bet the artists will happily return in no time. Or, we could all just keep moving and getting on with things. The space is still there. Our beautiful coastline is still there. Its more accessible than ever. It just looks a bit different. So what? Rant over...
21.01.2022 Tom Gooch and his canny crew of Bronte boys are putting on a fundraiser from 11am to 1pm this Saturday at Bronte Beach to raise funds for coastal communities affected by these bloody bushfires. The main attraction will be a secondhand surfboard sale, with all proceeds going to the cause (please feel free to bring down any old boards youd like to donate). In the likely scenario that it pisses down rain, the awesome upstairs room and beer garden at the Cloey Hotel will be the backup plan. Thanks to everyone who has supported this initiative so far, we hope to see you on Saturday!
21.01.2022 What does everyone think of the surfing ban? I can understand closing the beaches but does banning surfing and swimming increase safety in any way? Personally, I havent felt this anxious since I was pregnant.

15.01.2022 All Waverley and Randwick beaches will be closed on Sunday after satirologists found traces of COVID-19 in the sand and ocean water. Although researchers from the University of Dunny Bowl have suggested that wearing a steamer would provide adequate protection from infection, surfers are also being advised to avoid the water, especially at Bronte where concentrations of the virus were found to be much stronger.
15.01.2022 This one really means a lot, thank you @martine.emdur for putting so much love into this beautiful piece of artwork and making the magic happen
14.01.2022 Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk is closed After careful consideration, including a risk assessment and close monitoring, Waverley Council made the difficult decision today to close the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk. The decision has come after large numbers of people continued to visit our area despite our repeated calls for people to stay at home or find alternative places to exercise. There have also been some behavioral issues with people ignoring signs and Ranger instructions.... Waverleys beaches, including Mackenzies Bay, remain closed until further notice. The Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos said the decision to close the Coastal Walk was in the interest of public safety. Unfortunately, closing the coastal walk was the only way the Council could help ensure that Public Health Orders could be maintained along the walk. Council is trying to balance the needs of our community, but we need our residents and visitors to adhere to social distancing in our public spaces, said Mayor Masselos. For more information, please visit waverley.nsw.gov.au or give @waverleycouncil a follow.

14.01.2022 A Message From Waverley Mayor Paula Masselos This is a message I did not want to have to share, but we now know Waverley Council currently has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in NSW, with 105 being recorded as at 8pm on 25 March. I cannot stress to you enough that we need to be more vigilant than ever in following social distancing. It is now more important than ever. I am appealing to the community to take ownership of their health and respect the restrictions we have i...n place. I also ask you to continue to respect our Lifeguards and Rangers who are working hard to keep the community safe. Whilst our Rangers and staff do not have the ability to enforce the measures put in place by the NSW Government to support social distancing, we can fine people for accessing the areas we have closed. This now includes: Waverley Library Margaret Whitlam Recreation Centre All Waverley Council community halls, including the ground floor Mill Hill Seniors Centre Bondi Pavilion All beaches including Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte as well as Mackenzies Bay Bronte Pool Outdoor fitness stations Waverley Council playgrounds Waverley Synthetic Sports field, Waverley Oval and Multipurpose courts at Waverley Park. Ive had a number of reports of people continuing to use the facilities and spaces we have closed. Please do not use these spaces as fines may apply under the Local Government Act if you do. In addition to their usual powers, the NSW Police also have additional enforcement powers under the Public Health Act for breaches of Public Health Orders. We are not making these decisions to close our facilities and spaces lightly. We are doing so in consideration of the advice from the Australian and NSW Governments and will continue to implement measures to help keep our community safe...
