08.01.2022 Most of you would know by now but for those that are new or yet to experience Urban Jungle Indoor Rock Climbing We recently changed our grading system We are now using the V-Scale and Ewbank system! Did you know that the V-Scale is short for Vermin and was named after a famous Hueco Tanks climber. Its a simple rating system that grades boulder problems on a difficulty of 0-17. ... The Ewbank system (12 to 29 at UJ) is used in Australia New Zealand and South Africa and was developed in the mid 60s by John Ewbank, hence the name. This grading system takes into consideration technical difficulty, exposure, length, quality of rock, protection and other small factors. 06.01.2022 MEET OUR TEAM This is Shania (@climber__girl__ ). Shania has just started route setting with us (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays) and is also on the floor when needed When asked Shania to tell us about about herself this is what we got.... I am 21 years old, I have been climbing for just over a year and a half now. I have climbed up north, down south, and I have put up a few first ascents. I am studying sport science at the University of Notre Dame (unsure if I will ret...urn as Im currently deferred and enjoy working and climbing too much ) I hope to become a strong female climber and to take my climbing to the next level. I will be training for the next year specifically for State Titles 2021 in Open A Females, and sending my outdoor projects. However, especially to become overall the best climber I can be. Climbing and the climbing community has completely changed my life. I have never been so happy, so invested and so committed and determined. Not only am I a competitive climber and a recreational/social climber, Im lucky enough to be working in the climbing industry at Urban Jungle as a route setter and floor staff. I am forever grateful to Urban Jungle. We asked Shania the following; Fav thing bout UJ? The atmosphere and climbs. Fav place to climb? Kalbarri Hobbies? Some of you may know Jiri from CAWA (@climberswa), he’s the guy behind our lead courses at Urban Jungle but is a real all rounder, if you have a climbing question he’s our man full of knowledge.
