10.06.2022 Winter is almost here, and one of my favourite teas for this time of year is our Australian Roasted Green Tea. This lightly roasted pure green tea is grown in the Kiewa Valley, Victoria, Australia. It has a woody, nutty taste and is a warming and comforting tea with mild astringency. : @trentvanderjagt * *... * #theberryteashop #berrynsw #southcoastnsw #visitshoalhaven #shoalhaventourism #lovensw #drinktea #teatime #cupoftea #tealover #tea #cosymoments #teaathome #teaobsessed #tearituals #tearitual #ritualoftea #timefortea #comforting #TeaLover #TeaTime #TimeForTea #TeaRoom #DrinkTea #TeaLove #ILoveTea #LooseLeafTea #greentea #autumntea #australiangreentea See more

24.01.2022 School holidays are here and we are looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors to our beautiful town However, as we are expecting an increase in the number of people in the region over the next couple of weeks, we will be offering TAKE AWAY only to help manage the numbers in our store. As we are limited to 12 customers at any time and being a retail store and cafe this is very tricky. We ask for your patience and understanding as we try to keep everyone safe and... happy. Why not grab a lovely brewed tea and one of our freshly-baked scones or cakes and find a pretty spot somewhere to enjoy them? Or sit on our little tea cup stools! See more

24.01.2022 Happy Monday For those of you who are heading back to work today or for anyone who needs a little boost in spirits, take some time today to enjoy an uplifting cuppa A nice cup of tea is not just something your grandma recommended to cheer you up. Researchers are now discovering how the ingredients in a cup of tea can lift mood, improve focus and perhaps even ward off depression and dementia.... For centuries, people across the globe have testified to the relaxing and invigorating qualities of tea. The traditional calming effects of the plant Camellia Sinensis have elevated the drink, which is produced from its leaves, to a role beyond quenching thirst it is drunk as an aid for meditation, to help soothe the nerves or simply to unwind. But although the mental-health benefits of Camelia sinensis are common knowledge among tea drinkers, scientists are only now beginning to examine how tea exerts its effects on mood and cognition. Researchers have found, for instance, that drinking tea lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol but still not clear on which compounds give tea its beneficial properties. Tests of the key constituents L-theanine and EGCG suggest that they contribute alone and in combination with caffeine. One possible confounding factor is that the process of preparing and drinking tea is having the effect, not the tea itself. In 2007, Andrew Steptoe, a psychologist at University College London, investigated whether tea’s relaxing effects are a direct biological outcome or derived from the social context in which the drink is consumed, such as sitting down quietly for a rest. Tea is frequently consumed under conditions that are conducive to relaxation that may themselves be responsible for the apparent benefits, Steptoe says. In any case, we don’t need a reason to drink more tea! Wishing you a tea-riffic day ahead ...

13.01.2022 Spring is the perfect time to enjoy our Jasmine Dragon Eyes tea Also known as Buddha's Tears or Jasmine Pearls, this is one of the most beloved artisan teas from China. The effort behind this tea is arduous from selection to shaping. Each ball has been carefully hand-rolled from a perfect white bud and leaf which has been infused with the scent of freshly-picked jasmine blossoms. When placed in water, each ball delicately unfurls and produces a light, yellow infusion with... a sweet jasmine aroma and flavour. Best enjoyed in a glass teapot or cup so you can watch the balls unfurl Shop in-store or online and have it delivered to your door * * * #TeaLover #TeaTime #Relaxation #TimeForTea #TeaRoom #DrinkTea #TeaLove #ILoveTea #LooseLeafTea #ImmunityBoost #TeaLife #TeaAddict #InstaTea #greentealover #teaoftheday

12.01.2022 Have you tried Moroccan Mint tea? Moroccan Mint is a green tea prepared with spearmint leaves and sugar, traditional to the Greater Maghreb region (the northwest African countries of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya). Mint tea is central to social life in the Maghreb. The serving can take a ceremonial form, especially when prepared for a guest. The tea is traditionally made by the head male in the family and offered to guests as a sign of hospitality. Typically, at least... three glasses of tea are served. The tea is consumed throughout the day as a social activity. The tea is poured into glasses from high above to swirl loose tea leaves to the bottom of the glass, whilst gently aerating the tea to improve its flavour. Our Moroccan Mint tea is our version of this classic, a blend of Gunpowder Green tea, Peppermint and Spearmint (just without all the sugar!). 11.01.2022 Have you ever wondered where your tea comes from and how it is produced? Well, today we thought we’d share some facts about your favourite beverage The Camellia sinensis (or tea plant) is used to make most traditional caffeinated teas, including black tea, white tea, oolong tea, and green tea. This plant originated near the southwest region of China as an evergreen forest shrub. As the story goes, tea plant was first stumbled upon by accident in 2737 B.C The em...peror at the time was boiling water in his garden when a leaf from the overhanging camellia sinensis tree drifted into his pot. The combination yielded a drink that compelled him to research the tree further, uncovering both medicinal and palatable properties. Two varieties of the tea plant make up some of the most popular types of tea. Camellia sinensis sinensis (Chinese tea) is native to China and thrives in cool temperatures and high elevations. It is commonly grown on mountain slopes, producing a sweeter, gentler taste indicative to both green tea and white tea. Camellia Sinensis Assamicca, on the other hand, thrives in the Assam region of Northern India. This plant is considered more tropical than its Chinese variety, growing larger and producing bigger leaves (due to a climate with plenty of rain and warm temperatures). Harvesting camellia sinensis must be done by hand, as only the top leaves should be plucked. During plucking, pickers look for young leaves at the top of the plant, particularly those with tips, or small, partially formed leaves (see picture). A flush of just two or three leaves is known as a "golden flush." Good quality loose leaf teas (like ours!) is picked by hand, whereas more commercial teas are harvested by machines and the lower leaves are also used. Once the leaves are plucked then they undergo different processing to create Black, Green, Oolong and White tea (that’s another post!). Hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little about your favourite beverage? Next time you visit our store, be sure to have a look in our mini tea garden to see the tea plants growing (purely decorative!). Now put the kettle on and make yourself a cuppa

05.01.2022 THURSDAY TEA TIP How to Store Tea Properly: If you're buying quality loose leaf tea, then you want to make sure you are storing it correctly for the optimum flavour and shelf-life. Learn how to keep your tea fresh and delicious with these easy tips ... Avoiding the five 'tea killers' - light, heat, moisture, odour and air - means you'll have to consider the location + packaging material you're using to store your tea. Here are the best practices for each: Location: - Store far away from anything with a strong odour. - Store in a dark cabinet or completely opaque container. -Keep delicate teas separate from strongly scented teas. - Avoid storing tea in humid areas of your kitchen and house. Tea Storage Containers: - Use opaque packaging, if possible. If you prefer glass jars then be sure to keep them in a dark place, not on the window-sill or in bright sunlight. - Be sure your packaging is food safe. - Glazed ceramics, non-reactive metals and opaque, non-leaching plastics all make great packaging materials. - Wood packaging may be a workable option, but be aware that many wood containers have odors that can influence the tea's taste. The Berry Tea Shop tins are the perfect storage container but some of you prefer to buy our refil bags and store them in your own containers. Hopefully you will find these tips helpful? * * * * * #TeaLover #TeaTime #Relaxation #TimeForTea #TeaRoom #DrinkTea #TeaLove #ILoveTea #LooseLeafTea #ImmunityBoost #TeaLife #TeaAddict #InstaTea #storageideas
