23.01.2022 You don't need to book an appointment if you need help urgently, or just want to chat with a trained mental health professional. There are many free services and helplines available.
22.01.2022 The Health Minister, Greg Hunt, needs to listen to the APS and AMA that Telehealth needs to stay and the number of sessions need to increase. It is more evident now that due to Covid 19, 10 sessions is just not enough.

14.01.2022 Maybe you missed it? Join TRANSform now and help us transform trans health into the future. What is TRANSform? It's not just a COVID study (but that is the firs...t survey!). TRANSform is an innovative trans-led research study with one goal: to improve the health and wellbeing of transgender including non-binary and gender diverse (TGDNB) people over time. To join, you just have to be living in Australia aged 16 or over and have a gender that is different from what was assigned to you at birth. TRANSform is a longitudinal survey, not a once-off, and it's dynamic, so surveys change from year-to-year depending on what is relevant to you. It's different, but good different. A limited number of relevant, impactful surveys designed by our trans-led team (and interested collaborating researchers who share our goals) will run each year between April to July, based upon community feedback and relevant health issues affecting the TGDNB community at the time. We won't spam you, it's private and it's confidential. Sign up here: www.bit.ly/transformau OR https://redcap.healthinformatics.unimelb.edu.au/surveys/ Step 1 is an enrolment survey where we find out a bit about you so that we only direct surveys relevant to you. Step 2 will arrive in your email inbox after completing the enrolment survey. Look out for the email invitation to complete our first TRANSform study "Resilience and support in the trans community during the COVID-19 pandemic". COVID-19 study will end May 11th. We want to hear about your experiences of living in isolation with COVID-19 restrictions. Has cancelled gender-affirming surgery affected you? Has anyone in your household made you feel unsafe? Or maybe you've discovered something new? How can governments, LGBTIQA+ organisations and health service providers better support you? This info will feedback to health service providers, policy makers, community organisations and most importantly to you, so that we can all benefit and work together to keep each and every one of us well and safe. This large Australian TGDNB health and well-being research study is designed by our core group of TGDNB researchers Sav Zwickl, Alex Wong, Kalen Eshin, Daria Chetcuti and Teddy Cook in conjunction with Drs Ada Cheung and Lachlan Angus, Austin Health, Thorne Harbour Health, ACON Health and multiple other clinicians and collaborators. In 2020, our team looks forward to sharing upcoming studies on estrogen implants and wellbeing, as well as the impact of masculinising hormone therapy on pelvic pain. Most importantly, we want TRANSform to be your voice - so that policy makers, community organisations, clinicians and health service providers tailor their health and well-being programs to best support you. This first year, we are grateful for a small research grant enabling us to provide a thank you Gift Card (via Giftpay which will arrive in your email by the end of May) for your time. We hope to be able to secure more funding to do this ongoing. Questions? Shoot us an email at [email protected] We're all working from home and would love to hear from you. Stay safe, Sav, Alex, Kalen, Daria, Teddy, Ada & Lachie P.S. Please share!

12.01.2022 The APS is pleased to announce that the 2020 Federal Budget includes a doubling of the number of Medicare-funded psychology sessions for all Australians regardl...ess of location, for an initial 2 year period. 12.01.2022 Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, Biphobia, and discrimination against intersex people. The date of May 17 was specifically chosen... to commemorate the World Health Organisation’s decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. May 17 is now celebrated in more than 130 countries, including 37 where same-sex acts are illegal. It’s also important to acknowledge the historic milestone that took place last year when WHO announced that being transgender would not longer be classified as a mental disorder. Despite this, laws around Australia continue to require surgery and medical treatment in order for trans people to recognised legally as the gender they live as. The journey to ‘de-pathologise’ the experiences of intersex people continues today. To all of you celebrating loudly and to all of you who can’t we see you, we support you, and we’ll always fight for you. To find out more about IDAHOBIT and activities happening around the world visit www.may17.org

05.01.2022 IDAHOBIT is coming up on Sunday 17th May. It is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia and Intersexism, set aside to mark the date in 1...990 that homosexuality was removed from the WHO list of mental disorders. Support Working It Out’s mission to make this a more inclusive and safe world for everyone. Without our annual IDAHOBIT Breakfast, our major fundraiser for the year, our coffers are looking a little bare. Please support us with a small donation of $15, which equals the profit margin of a ticket to the breakfast, or more if you can! (If you can't donate, as many can't right now, please share as someone else in your network may be able to. <3 ) Head to our GiveNow page to donate: https://www.givenow.com.au/workingitout
