08.01.2022 Is working from home burnout a new thing? As the lines between work and non-work are blurring in the current lockdown environment, many of us who are working remotely or from home are likely to struggle to preserve not only healthy but necessary boundaries between their professional and personal lives. To show your loyalty, productivity and even devotion, you may feel that you have to work all the time... ... ...afternoons blend into evenings... ...weekdays blend into weekends and... ...you’ll feel that no time is left for yourself... and that you’re working around the clock. So what can you do? What has helped me the most is to de-mark the transition from my non-work roles to my work role! How? Even though it’s fun to be in your PJs or trackies all day long initially, get yourself ready every morning and put on your work clothes. Then leave the house to go on your commute by walking around the neighbourhood or go and get your take-away coffee and head back home. This will help you to transition from your home you to your work you. And then you can come up with a similar routine for your evening. You can read more about how to avoid working from home burnout in this HBR article. https://hbr.org/2020/04/3-tips-to-avoid-wfh-burnout
07.01.2022 CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE - BOX BREATHING I’m inviting you to a challenge for the remainder of December and it's all about feeling relaxed, calm, and stress-free How awesome does that sound!? I’ll be teaching you a breathing technique that will help you feel less stressed almost instantly! It’s called 'box breathing'. And no, it doesn’t involve an actual box or present. :)... As we all know, stress can sneak up on you during the day easily, in particular during this time of the year. You might start out feeling great, but then all of a sudden you notice your shoulders are tight and you are holding your breath. The good news is that your body has a built-in way to counteract that stress and also wind down at night to help you fall asleep. Box breathing has been used by many people, from athletes to nurses, leaders and teachers! It involves controlling your breath in and out, as well as ‘holding' your breath. It’s called 'box' breathing because you do each part of the breath for an equal amount of time (4 counts), as if you are breathing around a square. Here’s how to do it: 1. To start, all you need to do is sit up straight in a chair, feet flat on the floor. 2. Next, slowly exhale through your mouth as much air as you possibly can... for a total of 4 counts. 3. Now, hold your breath for 4 counts, and then gently and slowly breathe in through your nose for 4 counts. 4. And then hold your breath again, for 4 counts. For a full session of box breathing, you simply repeat the cycle for a total of 4 times through. You’ll start to feel your body relax almost immediately. It’s pretty amazing! Note for parents: this can be a great technique to teach your child when they feel worried, anxious or upset. Are you in? Let's do ONE SESSION a day. Try this and let me know how you do!
02.01.2022 How are you resting today?
01.01.2022 Tonight, before you go to bed... ...take a moment to relax and breathe gently and evenly. Continue to relax... ... and get a sense of your heart beat ... And begin to notice any sensations and feelings in your heart... Tune in even more... ...and ask your heart what it truly desires... ...and feel what comes up... Practice this every night or when you are stressed or relaxed or excited. You’ll be amazed at what comes up
