25.01.2022 The good news? Sugar from natural wholefoods such as fruit are absolutely fine for most kids! Although there is sugar in fruit, it comes with a host of other nutrients that balance the sugar out. Fibre slows the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream and feeds the good bacteria in the gut. It’s also an excellent source of antioxidants that protect little bodies from injury, illness and inflammation.... Some kids can be on the sensitive side, even with sugar from fruit. If this is your child, you might like to opt for lower sugar options such as berries. For more info on how to lower sugar in your child’s diet, read the new blog- link in bio!! P.S. What is your child’s favourite fruit? See more

24.01.2022 Your child’s crankiness, impulsiveness, melt downs and cravings could be being impacted or even driven by not quite enough sleep. If you have any of those issues with your child at the moment, even a teenager, work hard on their sleep for 3 nights and see what difference that makes. I bet you will see an improvement. It’s not the magical cure- if issues are significant then the lack of sleep may be exacerbating it as their system doesn’t quite have what it needs to thriv...e right now, and that little bit of extra sleep is just enough to keep going. So there is obviously a bigger picture here- and that can be resolved too. But the sleep thing is so doable right now. And if the problem is they struggle with sleep, then maybe some help is in need. I have been helping families reboot sleep for their babies and children for many years so I focus on sleep strategies in my treatments whenever it’s called for. If you’d like to chat about this go to my website to book a 20 minute free zoom session or simply call me on 0404795677.

24.01.2022 Genius! I’m so lucky to have this author actually in my life, guiding me for all the stuff I don’t have the aptitude for. And this book sums it all up. So grateful to have been found @mirandaiveymedia last year. Right when my practice could have gone down the toilet thanks to the pandemic, she helped me make it stand out.

23.01.2022 Last day of Winter looked like this.

22.01.2022 What an amazing opportunity to find out all about where the meat that we eat comes from. We were lucky enough to be invited by @thefoodfarmau to learn about the insanely clever ways they have found to produce meat that is kinder to animals, to the environment and even to our bodies. I highly recommend not only chatting to your butcher but also finding a farmer to show you their practices for veggies and/or livestock as it may set your mind at ease, and... perhaps encourage your kids to want to eat from the earth too. #freerangekids #healthykids #healthykidsfood #healthykidsmeals #healthykidssnacks #healthyfoodforkids #kidswithfoodallergies #glutenfreekids #dairyfreekids #cleaneats #fermentedfoods #healyourgut #eliminationdiet #sibo #guthealthy #antiinflammatorydiet #guthealing #goodbacteria #leakygutdiet #healleakygut #guthealingfoods #paleosnack #wholefooddiet #wholefoodrecipes #nutritionistcentralcoast #childrensnutrition #nutritionforautism #nutritionforadhd #adhddiet #autismdiet See more

22.01.2022 When you feel like you’re getting it wrong, and you can’t help your children, just remember the future you will look back and tell you had it all along. Trust your instincts, your children and block out all the other noise.

19.01.2022 Does your child suffer from meltdowns or has difficulty learning? There are more and more children struggling with outbursts and difficulty concentrating in class. It’s heartbreaking for both them and their exhausted mums and dads. If your child is suffering from one or even all of these issues, you’re not alone. It can feel that way though, when my eldest was little I spent so many sleepless nights worrying and wanting desperately to find the right support and answers. I ...was so fortunate to be sent in the direction of Nutrition therapy, as it was the answer we were needing to see our child not just manage better, but thrive! Since that day I’ve used every resource available to help families find their answers, step by step, in a format that avoids disrupting or overwhelming an already stressed household at all costs. I’m a registered children’s Nutritionist, sleep and behaviour management consultant. I'm also an ex-special needs co-ordinator, so I know how many factors need to be considered when helping your child. I love helping other parents and their children live happier lives. It's a win win situation for everyone. My son was like a different child, no longer as irritable, highly anxious or down, generally happier and able to cope better with situations. Not only did his anxiety reduce but his reading and performance at school also increased dramatically, almost at exactly the same time. I am very grateful to Clare for her guidance and support. The simple change to my son’s diet has changed not only his life but the rest of the family’s. Vanessa I offer a small amount of free online discovery sessions so please be quick to secure your appointment. September is already booking out fast! Go to https://bit.ly/3k0ktC6 to book. 18.01.2022 What can too much sugar do to your child’s body? There are 3 major effects to consider: The Gut sugar feeds the unhealthy bacteria in the gut. This sets your child up to crave more sugar, as the bad bacteria can influence their cravings. ... But an imbalance of gut bacteria can contribute to health issues including allergies, intolerances, asthma, eczema, autism, ADHD, sensory disorders and chronic infections. Blood Sugar sugar is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream, leading to a spike in energy. This is why you might see hyperactivity in your child right after a sweet treat. But then, the body kicks in and stores the excess energy away. Blood sugar levels crash, leaving your child moody, prone to tantrums and ravenous. This will leave them craving more sweet treats for a quick energy fix, continuing the rollercoaster. Brain Chemicals when your child eats something sugary, they feel great due to a release of dopamine in the brain. Over time, the body needs more and more to get the same ‘high’ feeling so they end up craving sugar. Sugar can also contribute to inflammation and affect overall brain function. This can be a big problem for children with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism, ADHD and sensory processing disorder. So remember - even if all you see is the hyperactivity, the mood swings and tantrums, there is much more going on underneath. See more

13.01.2022 May today mark a big step for our nation to stand up for what is just, and heal our land together.

12.01.2022 Lunches!! It’s all easy in the holidays (maybe?) but school’s almost back... panic will set in soon. If you want this term to be the one where you feel better about what your kids eat, what do you put in the lunchboxes?? Lots of kids enjoy fritters, a great way to get protein, veggies and more veggies into them. You can make a batch and freeze this week and not worry. Some other ideas are meatballs or even little pies- the Kmart pie maker is amazing, so you can make vege pies, meat pies or even fancy satay pies, the sky is the limit and again this is a big batch, freezable food. What triumph have you had that you could share with all us other desperate parents?

12.01.2022 If you have a fussy eater, you might want to start spending some time in the vegetable patch with them. Helping to grow their veggies and herbs allows your kids to see, smell, touch and taste ingredients they might not usually try. It also gives them a sense of ownership, so they are more likely to try them when it comes to preparing them. ... Have you tried planting a garden with your kids? See more

08.01.2022 Here are 5 easy ways that you can get more veggies into your kids, starting today: #1 - Don't wait until the end of the day to cram all of their veggie intake in. Start off with veggies at breakfast and morning tea time, even if it's carrot sticks on the side. #2 - Sneak a dose of veg into a smoothie. Kids love a good berry smoothie or even chocolate milkshake. They don't need to know that you added 1/2 cup of spinach or 1/4 avocado to it...! #3 - Make pesto for your pasta. Most kids love a good pasta dish, and pesto is an easy way to get in some veg and herbs. Even 1/2 tsp of tomato or basil pesto is a good start. #4 - Add veg to your child's plate, even if they don't eat it. The research shows that repeated exposure to vegetables helps our kids to eat a wider variety of foods. #5 - For super-fussy kids, embrace purees. Bland veg such as cauliflower and zucchini are easy to add to almost any sauce. You can even do a thin layer of puree underneath the tomato sauce on a pizza. Small amounts add up! 08.01.2022 So grateful to live where we live.

07.01.2022 So pretty! Side dish of balsamic roasted Spanish onion and sprouts with dinner. As usual, it was just whatever we had in the fridge.

04.01.2022 We all have a different level of tolerance when it comes to high-sugar foods - and that includes our kids. So I'm curious - what happens if your child has too much sugar?

04.01.2022 Did your little one overindulge at a party or family gathering? Not to worry there are a few tricks to help them ride out the sugar rollercoaster. 1 Get them straight back to eating plenty of wholefoods. Wholefoods are rich in fibre and protein, which can help to balance out the effects on the blood sugar fluctuations that occur. 2 Keep them hydrated. Dehydration is common alongside too much sugar, which makes their mood and symptom...s worse! Opt for lower sugar options such as water, fruity herbal teas or kombucha. 3 Encourage them to use up that excess energy, so they can get a good rest. Let them run around the backyard or park until they slow down. A good night sleep can help to reset a lot of the side effects of too much sugar. 4 Prepare a protein-rich breakfast the next day. There’s a good chance they will be grumpy, so giving them some slow-burning fuel that balances their blood sugars can help. Eggs are a great brekkie protein to reach for. 5 - Be prepared for the next time around. Before the next party, give them a fibre and protein-rich snack such as hummus and veggie sticks.
