24.01.2022 OSLO, June 29 (Reuters) - Investors are starting to turn the heat up on companies over their strategies to tackle climate change in line with the agreement reached in the 2015 Paris climate talks. Sweden's largest national pension fund AP7 set a high benchmark in June when it named six firms it said had breached the Paris accord and ditched them from its portfolio. Below are comments or strategy details from several funds:

21.01.2022 We have three years to stop the worst effects of climate change through an unprecedented and coordinated global effort, prominent experts are now warning. Ecosystems have been collapsing, ice sheets have been disappearing, and coral reefs have been dying from the heat. But global emissions remained stable over the past three years while economies grew, showing it is possible to mitigate the worst effects of climate change, a letter published in Nature journal on Wednesday said.

21.01.2022 Australia's energy future will be increasingly reliant on renewable energy sources, with the operator of the nation's energy markets conceding that even with a forecast 30 per cent rise in population over the next two decades the amount of energy travelling across the grid will be little changed. Central to the forecast from the Australian Energy Markets Operator, which runs the nation's wholesale gas and electricity markets, is the view that more households will install rooftop solar systems as their prices decline, amid an ongoing trend towards installing more energy efficient appliances.

19.01.2022 4. International Leadership: The majority of Australians want our country to be an international leader on climate change action (63 per cent), particularly renewable energy development, innovation and implementation - an overwhelming majority would not want Australia to copy the USA’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement (87 per cent). Most want us to work harder with other countries to achieve the Agreement’s objectives of limiting global warming to 1.5-2C (61 per cent).

18.01.2022 One of the forecasts that came with the 2016 census data was that Melbourne would overtake Sydney as Australia’s biggest city, reaching eight million people by 2050. Well, perhaps, but 33 years is a long time and plenty of things will change in the meantime. One of the big changes that may affect that census forecast is the way energy is about to be redistributed across regional Australia. Cities have always relied on cheap power, but as the Finkel report showed three weeks ago the cheapest source of new power is now via wind farms, and they just can’t be built at scale in the cities.

18.01.2022 6. Federal Government: The majority of Australians do not consider the federal government to be doing a good job of informing the public about climate change, managing its impacts and driving the transition to clean energy - only 18 per cent judge performance as good or excellent.

16.01.2022 5. Policy: The majority of Australians want bipartisan, constructive climate change and energy policy implemented - 64 per cent want Australia to set targets and implement domestic action to achieve net zero emissions.

13.01.2022 HUMANITY must put carbon dioxide emissions on a downward slope by 2020 to have a realistic shot at capping global warming at well under two degrees Celsius, the bedrock goal of the Paris climate accord, experts said Wednesday. A world that heats up beyond that threshold will face a crescendo of devastating impacts ranging from deadly heatwaves to mass migration caused by rising seas, the experts warned in a commentary published in the science journal Nature.

07.01.2022 Energy consumers armed with rooftop solar PV and battery storage are going to play a critical role in the management of Australia’s grid as it transitions to a low carbon future, the Australian Energy Market Operator says. In releasing its new electricity forecast for the next two decades, AEMO says the uptake of solar, storage, demand management and energy efficiency will mean that Australia’s peak demand will keep electricity demand stable for the next two decades, despite a 30 per cent increase in population.

Tucked away in Fremantle is a multi-tenanted building where residents regularly share solar power with one another. The 14 residents are living in a blockchain-enabled peer-to-peer renewable trading system, where the members of the strata have agreed to put rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on the roof of the building, and the residents can trade amongst themselves. 02.01.2022 ICE-FREE areas in Antarctica could expand by about 25 per cent by the end of the century, resulting in the spread of invasive species and the extinction of native species, new research has found. Research published in the journal Nature today shows a warming climate would cause ice-free areas which now cover less than 1 per cent of the continent to expand and join together.
