03.01.2022 Golly gosh, has this table lived a life! Originally a mortuary table that was in a Fremantle Funeral Parlour in the late 1800s ...I dare say it may even have had my tragic hero CY Ocoonor on top of the cool carrera marble. An enterprising, talented furniture friend picked it up from the parlour a couple of decades ago and fashioned some jarrah legs which were then limewashed. One of my most stylish friends Mike Finn then picked it up for use in one of Western Australias mos...t revered and loved grocers, naming no names (ok Kakulas Sister). I used to operate a homewares store next door and when they moved I was lucky to acquire this piece. From there it served as a party table in my Albany abode with Dalys Ullrich. Next move was to my wee little blacksmiths cottage in White Gum Valley, next door to our fave Tom Jones, where it served as a dining table to my unsuspecting guests (naturally my timing was always impeccable when I explained what they were eating off mid meal). From White Gun Valley she was lovingly wrapped in sheets and packed for her journey across the Nullarbor with Jens Gruendler and our dogs as company in the back of the van. Onto a new job....here she took pride of place in front of indoor pizza oven. Here she stared in TV commercials and coking shots. Event days saw us serving shovels and shovels of pizza to the crowds off her smooth top. From Bowen Hills she then made the move to swanky James Street, where again she took pride of place in our culinary kitchen. Kids would pile up presents on her cool marble and gather round to sing happy birthday and blow candles out with good wishes. And then her last move...to a 140 year old grocers in red hill. Thank god German Jens made that wooden platform on wheels...because it makes it easy to move her around. So...as I start to prepare and pack up..Im offering up for sale this important part of my life...this mortuary table. And if you want to know the size....well Id say a body length. The marble top makes it a superb kitchen work bench for pizzas, pasta, dough. I said I wouldnt sell it over my dead body.....but have had a change of heart. pm me for price and details. ( ps. You know, the charming character pieces you wanted to buy but we took them with us to the new store. 7am-10am It wont be a bun fight. Come and grab a coffee from the new owners of old Taste and then wander round the back for a stroll through our antique furniture & garage sale. This will be our first of a few. PS. Im even putting the marble mortuary table up for sale! Who would have thunk.
