25.01.2022 As many of you know, last year saw us tackle the Spring Rally 2019 from Melbourne to Townsville via Birdsville, raising over $13,000 for The Cancer Council Australia. It was a huge challenge in terms of fundraising efforts, snapped fan belts, broken automatic transmissions and many sleepless nights. However, so many laughs, memories and friendships were created along the way, making it the experience of a lifetime! This year we are excited to announce WE ARE BACK! With a ne...w name, new car and new route. Shitbox 2020 will see us drive from Mackay to Darwin on mostly unsealed roads all to continue to raise money for this great cause. Last year we were blown away by the support we received - from individuals, to local businesses who made our huge fundraising effort possible. We will be announcing a few exciting events in the coming months that we would love you to take part in - please stay tuned. In the meantime we continue to ask for your support. This continues to be a cause that affects everyone in some way. As you know we need to raise a minimum of $5k, but hope to obliterate this like last year. All donations are fully tax deductible. Thank you for your continued support Keep watching this space... https://2020spring.shitboxrally.com.au/the-sin-bin

23.01.2022 We were a little mellow today after giving away young Matilda. We still enjoyed the day exploring the bustling town of Longreach. Whilst the Stockman’s Hall Of Fame was closed for renovations, we spent a few hours at the Qantas Museum which is well worth a visit! The town was pumping with visitors which was a great site to see. From Longreach, we headed towards Emerald and stopped at a few smaller towns along the way. We enjoyed a beer at the Jericho Pub. The owners are very ...eager to sell after 8 years, where they are virtually the last business left standing in the town. They weren’t the friendliest folk, but the beer was cold. We dabbled in politics for the day and visited the birth place of the Labour Party and the Tree of Knowledge. Exhausted by these efforts, we had to pop into another pub for a quick rest. In Alpha, we found the BEST bakery of the holiday so far called Snowy’s Bakery. Old Snow was well into his 80’s and had a humble display that was all deliciously made by his own two hands. Whilst deaf as a door post, he was up for a chat and proudly displayed his certificate in bread baking from 1976. We arrived in Emerald quite late and were surprised by the size of the town and what it had to offer. We booked a room at a roadside motel last night, which was clean and comfortable. After heading out for dinner and a few drinks, we walked back to our room. Whilst in the carpark, I was wrongly mistaken by one of the workers who was staying there as a lady of the night. Chris is still smiling and laughing about it today as we venture towards the coast headed for Yeppoon....

21.01.2022 Here she is. Our 1991 Ford Courier that we hope will get us across the finish line. No a/c, power steering or any of the luxuries. Let’s just hope she is reliable...

21.01.2022 Arrived in Birdsville tonight. So far a midnight finish yesterday. 4 burst tyres, a hole in the exhaust and buggered fuel filter (currently being tended to in triage). The days are hard and long, but bloody fun and so many laughs. Chris and I haven’t showered since Saturday morning Our buddy group is amazing and have saved our asses more times than we care to count. Maybe no reception from here on out, so hope to see you all at the finish line (the show grounds) in Townsville on Friday.

20.01.2022 We may have been put on the back burner for a few months, but we are still waiting on the sidelines ready for our big comeback! Stay tuned... #shitboxrally #thecancercouncil

17.01.2022 After hearing our story, these guys have kindly offered to give us a free room at the inn and dinner on them. It’s disappointing to break down, but the kindness of people in small towns makes you quickly forget. It is all part of the adventure and geez we have met some amazing peeps... #shitboxrally

17.01.2022 We are on the road again!! Albeit, a little dusty but well worth it after a cracking night filled with amazing people, bad karaoke and lots of laughs. We cannot get over the kindness of people in this town. From Mick at the Horse and Jockey Motel who put us up for the night and let us party the house down, to B and Ag at Tarcutta Auto who went above and beyond to get the parts delivered overnight and the job done first thing. Only to find out that they were generously donating their services in memory of their parents. Tarcutta may be small, but the people in this town have big hearts. We can’t help but think, maybe the fan belt was meant to break so that we could have a night that we will never forget

17.01.2022 This morning after 8 days of travel and months of endless fundraising, the official rally begins. It feels surreal. Neither of us can contain our excitement, nor can we believe that two small town girls with a goal of $5,000 could more than double their efforts, surpassing more than 12k raised for The Cancer Council Australia. Admittedly we entered into this adventure lightly, not fully comprehending the hard work that it entailed, or the trials and tribulations that would ensue. Would we do this again? That remains a mystery. ... But we are filled with such pride for our achievements and so grateful for everyone’s support to get us here.

16.01.2022 BOX RALLIES GRANTS ANNOUNCED We are very proud and excited to announce the research grants which have been funded by Box Rallies from the funds raised in the 20...18/19 fundraising year. The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is the pinnacle for vital funding from ground-breaking cancer research projects. They are Australia’s most prestigious health and medical funding body and are funded by the Australian Government through the Federal Budget. There are over 2,700+ health and medical applications submitted for NHMRC funding every year, but their budget only goes so far. Previously, Box Rallies was able to fund multi-state research projects via Cancer Council grants. From 2019, Box Rallies & Cancer Council have taken a new approach one that means Box Rallies now funds the most outstanding cancer research projects nationally. For the first time, Box Rallies has funded the next highest ranked grants after the NHMRC. This means that Box Rallies is now funding some of the most exciting cancer research projects across the country with the highest potential to significantly impact those affected by cancer. The 2,700+ applications submitted to the NHMRC are put through an extremely rigorous process of review to whittle the list down into a ‘ranked list’ of the best research applications in the country. Whilst this ‘ranked list’ have been assessed as ‘fundable’ only the very, very best, the top ranked applicants from any State or Territory in Australia will be funded by Box Rallies via Cancer Council. Through the monies raised from the 2018 2019 fundraising year, Box Rallies are funding 7 grant proposals up to $450,000 each. Summaries of these are listed below. The grants are awarded in March each year, so we look forward to seeing how the funds raised in the 2019/20 fundraising year continue to support our best national cancer researchers. 12.01.2022 From Emerald, we headed to Yeppoon and passed through our favourite little haunted watering hole in Rockhampton, The Criterion. Fearful that this may have been our last run of country pubs for a while, we stopped at a few other tiny pubs along the drive... We arrived in Yeppoon and had a walk around the town - both surprised by how pretty this place is. We decided to venture over to Great Keppel Island for a day of sun, hiking, snorkelling and exploring. We returned to Yepp...oon quite late on the Friday, so stayed a second night. In Yeppoon we also enjoyed a 5 pie at Great Keppel Pies. Saturday we headed for Agnes Waters, but due to bad weather we were forced to spend a fair bit of the day inside and had a fruitless attempt at betting a few dollars on the donkeys. This night we also received our first holiday donation for The Cancer Council from two lovely local ladies. We woke early to the sunshine and had a good look around the town before heading to Tin Can Bay. In Tin Can Bay, we decided to stop off at the local RSL which was going off with its local Sunday session (see next video). We then caught the courtesy bus to The Country Club. It was a window into life in our 70’s... and it didn’t look too damn bad! Another beautiful little town with friendly locals and great stories. This morning we were up early to watch the Australian Humpback dolphins come in for a feed

06.01.2022 Day 8 & 9 has seen us take the journey from Cloncurry to Winton. Along this dry drive, we stopped at a couple of watering holes including the Walkabout Hotel in McKinley which was famously featured in the first Crocodile Dundee movie. The second stop was at the Blue Heeler Hotel in Kynuna. Last night we camped in our swags out the back of The Australian Hotel in Winton, looking up at the stars. We met a friendly local sheep shearer named Mad Dog that kindly invited us to h...is station this morning to watch the action unfold. Up in time for the beautiful sunrise, we ventured to the station for an eye opening experience this morning. Following this we embarked on our drive along the Matilda Way to Longreach, where we saved a baby Joey from the side of the highway. We have appropriately named her Matilda and delivered her in the safe hands of the local vet. Mum not doing so well, but bub is great

06.01.2022 Last night waiting for fuel until midnight after a massive day of blows (literally)...
