25.01.2022 It's true - we are in uncharted waters, navigating an unprecedented event that is changing the way we live COVID-19. As news headlines dominate our screens, it is easy for fear to overwhelm us, and for a myriad of questions to race through our minds. What will the future hold? What will the impact be on our economy? How will this impact my life? Practice strategies to keep positive! If you’re feeling anxious, you’re not alone. There has never been a better time to practice... self-care and well-being strategies to manage the emotional impact of the current crisis. Here are a few ideas to get you started: Keep moving Even though we have social distancing measures, it is important that you still go outside, get some fresh air and exercise regularly, even if it’s in your own backyard. Practice simple mindfulness techniques These can be as simple as deep breathing for one minute, stretching mindfully, or simply taking some time out to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee. You may even like to try an app such as Headspace to access short mindfulness meditations. Practice gratitude Gratitude has been found to increase happiness if done consistently. Simply write down 5 things you are grateful for each day and see what positive emotions manifest long term. Get plenty of sleep to keep you revitalised and resilient Sleep lowers your stress hormones and boosts your immune system which is critical in the current environment. The current situation may be challenging, but we live in an incredible country and we will get through this together. We are keeping all our loving patients in thoughts. Keep safe and see you all very soon! The Dental Practice team!

17.01.2022 On average, dental crowns last between five and 15 years. The life span of a crown depends on the amount of wear and tear the crown takes, how well you follow good oral hygiene practices, and your personal mouth-related habits. You should avoid such habits as grinding or clenching your teeth, chewing ice, biting fingernails, and using your teeth to open packaging.

15.01.2022 Do you ever wake up with a headache or a sore neck? There are a number of reasons this could be happening, but one you might not be aware of is Bruxism. ‘Bruxism’ is the medical term for teeth grinding. #bruxism #stress #teethgrinding
15.01.2022 What Are Hidden Cavities? When you think of cavities, you probably think of tooth aches and a lot of pain, right? Would it surprise you to know that there are some cavities that are actually painless and even unnoticeable in some X-Rays? This means that some cavities can be easily missed! Hidden cavities can be dangerous, so it is important to know how to detect them, and more importantly, how to avoid getting them in general. WHAT ARE DENTAL CAVITIES We have all heard of cav...ities before. They are the reasons why our parents would not let us have too much candy when we were younger! A cavity is what you get from tooth decayor damage to the tooth. It can affect both the outer coating of the tooth (enamel) as well as the inner layer (dentin). Cavities are usually painful, and they can be easily spotted by a dentist. However, there are some hidden cavities that are harder to spot. These cavities, or hidden caries, are often missed in an exam because they are so deeply hidden within the pits and fissures of the teeth. These hidden cavities form when a build-up of plaque forms in hard-to-reach places in your mouth. If hidden dental caries go untreated, or worse, unnoticed, they can become more painful as the enamel and dentin become destroyed. If they are still left untreated at that point, it can begin to decay your tooth down to the root, causing the root to become exposed and extremely painful. It is extremely important for you to stay on top of your dental hygiene at home by brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing or using piksters once or twice a day to remove plaque in between your teeth.
