25.01.2022 Yoga and Stress Management This week we worked on our shoulders and neck. Focused on relieving the strain in our neck and shoulder area which builds up due to bad posture, reduced activity of those muscles and Stress. However I would like to say Stress management is lot more than just that. Yes, Pranayam and meditation help, no doubt. However the basic understanding of, what stress is, I believe, is required.... Stress scientifically as well is, Pressure divided by Resilience. Now what is pressure. Pressure is any kind of challenge in life, be it work pressure, dealing with a difficult relationship, or physical restrictions in life. But that is only 10% of the story. What then is the rest of the 90%, Resilience. Resilience is our ability to deal with pressure. How well we deal with these pressures in life, decide the amount of stress create for our self. Which explains why different people fare differently in a given situation. So lets be very clear, Stress is not just Pressure. Today when we say, I am Stressed, we actually mean, I have pressures to deal with. Pressure is good. It motivates us, makes us stronger and gives us the opportunity to find the real meaning of our life. We create Stress for ourselves when we worry too much about the pressures and invite all the negative thoughts. What is required, is being focused on ourselves. Our only responsibility in life is Self Improvement, physically, mentally and spiritually. However, instead of doing that, and introspecting, we march out to change others and invite stress. We cannot change others and why should we? We need to change the way we look at the world, be forgiving, extend unconditional love and wish well for all. Be happy and know that your happiness is not dependent on something, someone or a situation. Happiness is within us, we just have to rise above, worrying about the petty things in life.

20.01.2022 Pilates, a Closer Look Yoga and Pilates are two very similar practices but with very basic difference. Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates back in 1920 as a rehabilitation technique to help dancers overcome injuries. It combines Yoga, martial arts and some western exercise forms. On the other hand Yoga is an ages old practice created by Rishis, with the aim of connecting physical consciousness with the universal consciousness through physical activity.... Both the practices improve posture, elongate the spine, and give strength and flexibility. However Pilates concentrates on creating a leaner, better you from your core muscles out, providing that long and toned body you desire. The six key principles of pilates are: concentration, control, centering, breathing, flow and precision. Both Yoga and Pilates use good breathing techniques; yoga for the unity between mind and body and pilates with its precise movements, to target specific parts of the body. The major difference between the two then is the ultimate goal. Pilates works from the center of your body outward while Yoga takes you within, providing a meditative environment to improve your overall quality of life, provides stress relief apart from the physical benefits. OUTCOME: Do not choose one, combine the two for a better you, inside and outside. #fab2fitmums @Mumswurld

19.01.2022 Love at its Best The purest form of love is divine love. Divine love only gives, asks for nothing, has no attachments, has no expectations. Love is not physical, love is a divine power that can be felt from miles. Human love that comes the closest to divine love is a mother’s love for her child. A woman feeds her child, dresses it, and looks after it at every stage of life, just acquiring pleasure in providing and seeing the child happy. Yet again, divine love is more than th...at, rather like that of a mother tortoise. The mother tortoise lives on one bank of the river, and the babies are across on the other. She doesn’t feed them or caress them physically, but they still feel her love from beyond. Her caressing gaze provides them nutrition, support and love, the love of the Divine. However, when love is contaminated with desires, it leads to disappointment, wrath and jealousy. It leads to expectations. And expectations are the cause of all disappointments. When we start expecting something out of a relationship, love somewhere ends. For example, even in a mother and child relationship, the moment the mother starts expecting something from the child, she is left only with disappointments and a sour taste. Once we understand who we are, the oneness of all, once we break that barrier between us, we are able to provide true divine love, which leads to bliss and genuine contentment.

14.01.2022 Muscle of the Week: Abs We will be focusing on the abdominal muscle, rectus abdominis, in this week's classes. This is one of the 4 abdominal core muscles and covers the front of your abdomen and allows you to hold your spine straight. This is the muscle we should be actively using rather than putting strain on our back, in daily activities, like picking up heavy weights and even bending. Strong Abs lead to strong back and hence less back problems and injuries. The best way t...o feel these muscles are to perform the naukasana in yoga or the very common, basic sit up. We will be working these muscles this week through yoga and pilates. The rectus abdominis plays several important roles towards the health of our body. So lets smile and say, ' its time for abs' and your body will thank you for years to come. #fab2fitmum Mumswurld

10.01.2022 Yogis's Diet Plan cont. So all you #fabtofitmums @Mumswurld, let’s start our day with a good dose of positive thinking and a vow to eat wisely and well. Let’s talk about, when to eat, today. To begin with, how hungry you are, is a good judge to, whether to eat and not. In other words we should only eat once the previous meal has been digested and hence, wait for the body to indicate hunger again. That gives a good gap of 3-4 hours between meals. ... Snacking in between is not advisable. If hungry or if you suffer from acidity, a fruit is best snacked on. Do not eat very late at night. You should be done with your last meal latest by 07:30 pm.Too much salt should be avoided as well in that meal, as that leads to water retention and weight gain. The digestive fire is at its peak from 10 am to 2 pm. So the heaviest meal of the day should be eaten then. Start your meal with a Sweet, fruit, a salad or half a glass of water. The main course should have a mixture of salty and sour tastes (usual). Pungent, bitter and astringent tastes should come at the end of the meal. So you can end the meal with cardamom, cloves, fennel or papad. You might find eating sweets at the beginning weird. However it makes perfect sense not just as per Ayurveda, but also physiologically. Sweet is considered a heavy taste and hence is digested best when digestive fire is max. Physiologically, sweets promptly increase blood sugar levels hence prevent over eating. Stay tuned for more to come. See more

09.01.2022 Yoga: a way of life as opposed to just exercise A few decades ago yoga was considered to be fit for only people who are ready to walk the path of renunciation ie the old, dejected or even twisted. However its growing popularity is owed mainly to the physical benefits of the yogasanas, which is truly only a small stream of Yoga. The rishis created this physical practice or the asanas, in order to condition the body in preparation for achieving the true goal of life, realising ...God within us, in simple words, learning to be a better person. Yoga in its totality is a lifestyle and not just a dose of exercise for the day, or for a certain period of time when you are on a weight loss or look good mission. Yoga is living a healthy, stress free and balanced life. The tools for the same being, healthy eating habits, asanas, pranayam(breathing techniques), and meditation to name a few. See more

08.01.2022 Yogasanas in Daily Life Yoga not only builds beautifully toned body, but also helps to correct our posture and conditions our body to perform our daily activities better, with reduced risk of injury. It takes us back to basics, learning how to bend, twist; lifts weights etc and carry on with our everyday chores more efficiently and safely. How many of us have pulled a muscle while simply reaching out for something from a high shelf at home or work, or picking up a holiday sui...tcase(ruining our entire holiday, even before it begins) or twisting back to pick up something in a hurry. Primarily because we never use those rusted joints and forgotten muscles. Yoga moves your body in the ways it was designed to move to help ensure that it keeps functioning properly. For example, in yoga you use both large and small muscles and move in many directions (twisting, arcing, etc.), not just back and forth on a one-dimensional plane. Yoga also synchronizes our breath with our movement for a more efficient and safer muscle stretch. For example, it uses inhale and exhale appropriately, teaching us where to inhale into the muscles and where to let go. Today we survive on all the conveniences, high-tech electronics have provided us, being completely oblivious to the fact that they are the causes for all the modern day lifestyle related physical problems like frozen shoulder, weak knees and wrists, obesity etc to name a few. No wonder why most of the asanas are inspired from either various animals in their natural stance, or day to day activities efficiently using our body, like using a hand mill, chopping wood or even walking using all the leg muscles, etc. The Rishis of those times were quite far sighted, I must say. Yoga truly brings us closer to nature, in other words, closer to yourself.

04.01.2022 Yoga for a Beautiful Body A Yogi with a perfect body was once asked, if he lifts weights. He smiled and said, Yes I lift my own body weight! In yoga we put our body in positions and orientations which are ultimately supported by our own muscles, hence we are lifting weights. So why not weight training? The physical principal behind weight training is concentric muscle contraction, which means the muscle gets smaller as it contracts. As it happens without proper stretchi...ng it leads to bulgy looking muscles. On the other hand in yoga the muscle stretches as it contracts, eccentric muscle contraction, giving muscles that sleek, elongated look. Plus yoga adds flexibility and strength to the muscles and joints. Yoga tones muscles all over the body, in balance to each other, whereas in weight training only one group of muscles at a time is worked. For example, while holding and perfecting the downward facing dog, or what is sometimes called the mountain pose, muscles from the heel to the hip and again from waist back to arms, are engaged and stretching. Increasing the holds and going deeper into your stretches, is the key to both a beautiful body and a stable mind.

03.01.2022 Taming Desires Lord Buddha said it long ago, but it bears repeating that desires are the cause of all disappointments and unhappiness in life. Bodily desires and emotional desires are so powerful that they can sway and mislead the intellect to speak for them, to justify them. Unsatisfied desires lead to wrath, jealousy and create barriers between people, i.e. dwaita. Unharnessed desires are a huge hindrance to spiritual growth. However, that does not mean that desires are unw...anted. Desires harnessed well, desires in the right direction, are the fountainhead of the aspiration required for spiritual growth. In Sri Aurobindo’s yoga, aspiration, rejection and surrender are the three pillars of sadhana (spiritual seeking). And this aspiration is nothing but the great desire to know who you really are, to find out the true purpose of your life. Hence we do not need to reject desires but should transform them. And, of course that only happens with God’s Grace on us, which in turn increases as our efforts increase in the direction of our goal. See more

03.01.2022 Yogi’s Diet Plan Is it important to watch what we eat? I think most of us believe that we can eat as we like as long as we have some kind of an exercise regime. Contrary to popular belief, a balanced diet is more important than using up those calories, as per researches. As per Ayurveda (yoga and ayurveda go hand in hand), we need to moderate... What we eat How much we eat When we eat How we eat How the food is cooked Working out for a couple of hours and then hogging on carbohydrates and fats (which by the by taste heavenly), completely negates your efforts. You are better off eating well and keeping a half an hour regular exercise schedule. It also makes a considerable difference to know when to eat what, meaning when is my body more receptive to a certain food type and even taste. Did you know, a Yogi only eats once or twice a day? Follow the posts to know more about the diet plan.
