24.01.2022 Dunlea Centre is very thankful for all Volunteer Fire Fighters and want to say a big thank you to staff member Duncan. Duncan is a gifted educator at Dunlea Centre, Australia's Original Boys' Town. In addition to the incredible 12 years of service at Dunlea Centre, Duncan is a Volunteer Fire Fighter. As fires continue to blaze along the east coast of Australia, we particularly think of all fire fighters tomorrow as another incredibly hot day is forecast.
23.01.2022 We are very excited to welcome back our young people and families. The last month has undoubtedly been very challenging in many ways so it is great to be back open and running the program onsite. Staff returned on Monday and spent the day planning and getting prepared for our young people to return. Yesterday was the first day back for young people and it was wonderful to see so many of them keen to be back and ready for Term 2. We will continue to have a significant focus on... personal hygiene, social distancing and increased cleaning across the site. There will be no offsite activities and limited contact between houses. The safety of our young people, families and staff remains our number one priority. We look forward to a positive, engaging and busy term! https://www.dunleacentre.org.au/dunlea-centre-news/

22.01.2022 Dunlea Centre’s 2019 Annual Report has just been released. Please click on this link to access the Report. https://www.dunleacentre.org.au/dunlea-centre-2019-annual-/ Mr Paul Mastronardi, Executive Director said: 2019 was a historic year in which Dunlea Centre celebrated its 80th year of operations. The agency continues to assist many young people and families experiencing challenges and conflict either in the home, school or socially. The unique hybrid program, which ...is a blend of school and residential care, focuses on social skills development and acquisition across day and night programs underpinned by purposeful family engagement. Behaviour change and educational gain are the objectives of the program. On behalf of the Dunlea Board and staff, I would like to thank all of our supporters for the continued help and assistance. Your contributions make a real difference to the lives of young people in need. We hope you will continue to support Dunlea as we build positive programs well into the future. The End of Financial Year is rapidly approaching, so please consider making a donation to Dunlea Centre. All donations over $2 are tax deductible. As you read the report you will see evidence of changes being made by young people and families as they set about improving relationships and opportunities for a better future. The journey of change is difficult; it requires courage, commitment and resilience. Dunlea staff purposefully support young people and families through the difficult journey and are constantly encouraged by the changes and achievements over the course of the program. As always, our young people remain our inspiration and motivation.
22.01.2022 Dunlea Centre Term 3 - Week 5 update We find ourselves half way through Term 3 already! It is wonderful to see so many of our young people engaged in education and developing social skills there is plenty of hard work being done by everyone. Unfortunately, we do still find ourselves in the COVID-19 pandemic with guidelines being updated regularly as the situation changes. Dunlea Centre remains vigilant with their COVID-19 Response Plan. Additional cleaning is carried out th...roughout the site on a daily basis, hygiene remains a focus in the education of our young people and external visitors are significantly limited. We continue to operate in small groups with limited interaction. Outdoor excursions within walking distance are permitted but all other excursions are currently prohibited. Whilst we understand that this can be difficult for our young people, the safety of the whole Dunlea Centre community remains our priority. On the upside, there is a very positive atmosphere at Dunlea Centre and we continue to see our young people progressing on their goals and achieving some excellent results. We hope you and your families are safe and well. To read more our website https://www.dunleacentre.org.au/dunlea-centre-news/
20.01.2022 Term 2 Update It has been wonderful to see the return of our young people to Dunlea Centre and be able to engage them face to face in their learning and skill development. We are already into Week 3 of the term and there is plenty of hard work being done and progress being made throughout both the education and residential programs. Our increased cleaning routine continues throughout the site as does a strong focus on personal hygiene and social distancing as safety remains... our top priority. 16.01.2022 Mr Lee Evans was invited to Dunlea Centre, Australia's Original Boys' Town to support young people in developing culinary life skills. Lee spoke to the students about budgeting and menu planning. He empowered students with the skill of making a meal from the pantry. Lee and the students cooked two delicious meals together. A number of the students were quite shocked at how tasty their meals were! Lee shared with the students how to save money by preparing meals ahead of time ...and freezing for future use, thereby avoiding the trap of take away food. Dunlea's Lead Teacher Joel Hamill said "Independent living skills is such an important part of our social skills program. Mr Evans has been incredibly generous with his time and energy sharing with our students. I have to admit learning how peel onions without crying is a new skill for me also!"
