25.01.2022 I need to be loved, valued, educated and, sometimes, helped. J. F. ‘Frank’ Stephens is an incredible man. He is a powerful speaker and advocate for people with a disability, as well as an actor and equestrian. We hope you all enjoy listening to Frank speak as much as we have here at The Equipped Centre.

19.01.2022 Today is Autism Awareness Day. This day is close to our hearts at TEC as we either have children with Autism, support people with Autism or have Autism ourselves. We would love to acknowledge all of our friends with Autism and we feel very lucky to be able to work alongside you.

19.01.2022 Today we celebrate International Day of People with Disability. Let's focus on the Abilities rather than the Disabilities and celebrate the strengths and achievements of every individual we interact with. https://youtu.be/bBzYZx-2GuE

19.01.2022 Today is SWALLOWING AWARENESS DAY! Swallowing, like breathing, is essential to everyday life. Humans swallow approximately 700 times a day! Difficulty swallowing is called dysphagia. Speech Pathologists work with families and individuals across the lifespan to ease the burden of dysphagia and help people to regain their basic right to swallow.

16.01.2022 This week is WA Mental Health Week. We couldn’t agree more with the week’s main theme: Mental health starts where we live, learn, work and play. Don’t hesitate to reach out if needing support. There is strength in knowing when some additional help is needed. We are here, as are a range of support services, including: - Emergency Services: 000 - Lifeline: 13 11 14... - Kids Help Line: 1800 551 800 - SANE Australia: 1800 187 263 - Mental Health Emergency response line: 1300 555 788 (metro) or 1800 676 822 (Peel) See more

14.01.2022 In this time of uncertainty, TEC wants to let you know that we are here for you and we aren't going anywhere. Services might be delivered in a different way, we might be on the other side of a screen in future or a voice on the phone, but we will still be here the entire time, however this unfolds. Hopefully all clients just received an email about this too. Please feel free to reach out if you need to.

14.01.2022 Greetings earthlings (including friends and families of K-equip & TEC), The 18th June was Autistic Pride Day. Autistic pride is about understanding and accepting who you are, on a planet where you often don't fit in. Happy Autistic Pride Day to all the spectrummies out there.

13.01.2022 With the current situation changing so rapidly, many of us are feeling anxious and unsure. Our team is making sure we are available to you all as much as possible, particularly through Zoom/phone sessions one on one. We also recognise the need to connect with others outside of the home and therapy team. This is why our psychology team is planning on running a parent support online group based on the Circle of Security program. This is an opportunity to access the COS program ...in a way that gets around some of the usual barriers to group therapy: through Zoom, you can remain anonymous to the other participants if needing to, you do not need to come into the office meaning child care arrangements are not as much of an issue, our team will be working from home and do not have after school activities with their kids now so have a greater flexibility of time, and most importantly, connection with others during times of social distancing is vital for good mental health. Email [email protected] ASAP if you are interested. Juanita can answer any questions about the program and cost. We look forward to supporting you and your family.
