25.01.2022 Have you discovered us on Instagram @TheFigTreeChildren. Our Instabio: https://page.co/wLjjo

25.01.2022 This last week we’ve been distributing school materials (bags, books, pens, pencils, shoes and uniforms) to all of the children who are sponsored through us. We’ve also been paying school fees for their next school year directly to the schools they attend. A huge thank you to all of our sponsors. Without you, this wouldn’t be happening! Having new school materials gives the children a sense of belonging, they are able to fit in with their class mates. They are able to... enjoy the excitement of their first day back at school for the year as much as any other child. By sponsoring one of the Fig Tree Children you are giving opportunity to a child who otherwise wouldn’t get one. We have three more children we’d like to get sponsored at this time, get them into school for the next school year. If you would like to help us by sponsoring one of these children, read more here: https://www.thefigtreechildren.org/sponsor-a-child/ Thank you #sponsorachild #sponsorachildtoday #opportunityforall #educationforall #orphanedandvulnerablechildren #schoolsupplies #schoolmaterials #givehope #thefigtreechildren #educateagirl #educateachild

20.01.2022 Ladies, have you ever considered what it might mean if you were unable to manage your menstrual cycle easily each month? Making sure the girls in our sponsorship programme don't miss school because of their 'menses' (periods) is one of the important programmes that The Fig Tree Children offers girls sponsored through them. The following article discusses how periods impacts the lives of girls in Sierra Leone and shares our sanitary pad campaign at the end of the article: h...ttps://www.thefigtreechildren.org/menstrual-hygiene-in-si/ $38 AUD ($28 USD, 21) provides a girl in Sierra Leone with a year's supply of sanitary pads and a small donation is also made towards The Fig Tree Children's emergency medical fund. Have you ever considered sponsoring a child? If so and you're not already doing so, maybe you would consider sponsoring a child through us? All of your money goes directly to helping provide for an orphaned or vulnerable child in Sierra Leone. $48 per month covers school fees and school materials (uniform, shoes, books, pens, pencils, bag, etc.) for the year and we also pay a monthly allowance to help make sure these children don't go hungry. See the children who are waiting to be sponsored here: https://www.thefigtreechildren.org/sponsor-a-child/ We would like to say a huge thank you to Karl & Sarah Harvey for generously buying sanitary pads for the girl they sponsor and another two girls in our programme (see photos The Fig Tree Children) #Sponsorachild #menstrualhygiene #sanitarypadscampaign #sanitarypads #educateagirl #EducationForAll #OpportunityForAll

19.01.2022 Being able to share the impact that The Fig Tree Children is making to their beneficiaries' lives is a challenge! Therefore, we were honoured when Third i Management offered to assess our impact. Third i Management have recently assessed the relationships that occur between the challenges that are addressed by our organisation and the impact that occurs through our services. Third i Management has assessed the outcomes based on the participants’ perception of the impacts be...ing positive or negative. When assessed against the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Targets, Third i Management has determined a score that represents how the beneficiaries perceive The Fig Tree Children’s core services as having a positive outcome. The photos in this post were taken yesterday and show us distributing school materials and paying school fees for the children registered in our programme for this next academic year. Most of the children start back at school mid-October. You can download the report here: https://www.thefigtreechildren.org/reports/ UN SDG Targets: https://sdgs.un.org/goals

19.01.2022 With school starting in only 5 weeks and having found a sponsor for Abie, we're also hoping to find sponsors for Abdulai, Michaela and Peter. Maybe you might be that person who gives one of these children an opportunity? How wonderful would it be to get them into school before the year starts!

19.01.2022 WONDERFUL NEWS!!! Notification of schools re-opening in Sierra Leone - 5th October for Primary, JSS and SSS The radio On-Air learning programme is also being continued . We are in the process of purchasing school materials for all of the children in our programme as we speak We have four more children (two girls and two boys) who could be included in this programme if we could find a sponsor for them. Maybe you could consider sponsoring one of them? You can learn... more about these children here: https://www.thefigtreechildren.org/sponsor-a-child/ How wonderful would it be to get them into school for the start of this next school year #EducationForAll #thefigtreechildren #sponsorachild #OpportunityForAll #educationiskey

18.01.2022 It’s that time of year when we distribute school materials and school fees to our children. The children always get very excited! We’re able to help the carers of these children because of our sponsors. $48 per month buys school materials, pays school fees and gives a monthly allowance. Maybe sponsoring one of our children is something you might consider? Giving opportunity to someone else is so rewarding. See how in our bio #educationforall #opportunityforall #giveopportunity #sponsorachild #thefigtreechildren #educateachild #educatinggirls #educateagirl #makeadifference

18.01.2022 Did you know that if committing to sponsoring a child at $48 AUD (27) per month is unaffordable but you would still like to support the work that The Fig Tree Children is doing, then we also have a valued Ambassador programme with 3 levels: Gold: $25 (14) per month Silver: $15 (8) per month Bronze: $10 (6) per month... The Ambassador programme is limited to 100 people only. It would be great if we could find these people before the year is out - a long ask, we know! The Ambassador programme is aimed to support our programmes to provide holistic care to orphaned and privileged children ongoing. It helps take the pressure off constantly trying to fundraise. 17.01.2022 20th November: World Children’s Day! Promoting International togetherness and awareness among children worldwide and improving children’s welfare. We’d like to share this article for ‘World Children’s Day’ written by one of our interns, Emmalee Mogford from QUT (Queensland University of Technology) who has been working with us these last twelve weeks.... We have two boys who we would LOVE to find sponsors for and we will be sharing their stories over the next couple of days

17.01.2022 This week in QLD, it is Mental Health Week, built to raise awareness and reduce stigma around speaking up about mental health. With high rates of psychological problems across the globe, including upwards of 10% of the Sierra Leonean population, it is important that we get comfortable speaking about these issues, not only this week but every day. So, what can be done to look after yourself and others? Think about your own personal strategies that could assist if you are ex...periencing a difficult moment, they may include breathing, sitting in the sun, reading your favourite book or counting numbers. Each and every person will have unique strategies, and that is totally okay! Having these prepared ahead of time, may help you respond quicker in the moment with positive coping actions. #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #mentalhealthweek #takecareofyourmind Seek support from family and friends and consider gaining a professional opinion. Be ready to listen, always. Sharing your story can feel uncomfortable and often speaking up can cause additional stress for those sharing, so it is important that if someone does speak to you about their mental health concerns, that you listen actively and with care. #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthweek #mentalhealth #takecareofyourmind #takecareoftheworld #sierraleone #thefigtreechildren #

10.01.2022 If you love the work that The Fig Tree Children is doing and want to support us today, please take a few seconds out of your day to nominate us (on the original post) to win this $3000 donation from #GoDaddy! The charity with the most nominations wins With no social security, if a child gets sick in Sierra Leone, the cost to get them seen by a doctor and/or provide them with medication to treat their illness is too expensive for the families we support. Only last month a b...oy sponsored through us had to have his appendix out. The cost was Leones 3,500,000 (approx. $350 USD). A month later he had an ulcer and an infection and had to spend 5 nights in hospital. The cost was Leones 1,200,000 (approx. $120 USD). #GoDaddy I want to nominate The Fig Tree Children to win the $3000 towards their Medical Health Fund to help the orphaned and vulnerable children they support through their sponsorship programme. $3000 will provide the health fund they need to ensure no child dies from preventable or curable illness or disease.

10.01.2022 It's been a long time since we last held a fundraising event. Because of Covid, we've had to cancel our events for this year so we're very much looking forward to this one! They are giving us a choice of five of the most popular breakfasts, a selection from their awesome menu. When: Wednesday 18th November... Book tickets here: https://www.trybooking.com/BLXLD Come and have breakfast with us and help give opportunity to orphaned and vulnerable children in Sierra Leone

09.01.2022 It's important to us that our sponsors and donors are shown the impact the funds they give us are having on the lives of the children registered with us. We do this by sending out newsletters, our annual report and sharing stories on our website and through social media More recently, through Third i Management, we have had calculated an outcomes-based measurement score to inform our sponsors and donors about how our services are meeting the United Nation’s Sustainable Development GOAL Targets. All reports can be accessed here:

09.01.2022 ...not only write a letter but receive a letter too? Can you remember how it made you feel to receive a handwritten letter from someone? The last handwritten letter I received was from my Grandma, she used to write to me nearly every week. It was always a highlight for me. I miss it! We’ve been looking at more sustainable ways we can raise more funds for The Fig Tree Children. This idea of handwritten letters is the inspiration for creating some greeting cards - a product tha...t can be bought on our website. The cards have images that were taken during my times in Sierra Leone and we’ve chosen ten images that have printed on 100% recycled card. The envelopes and packaging is all 100% recycled too. It would make a lovely eco-friendly gift for that environmentally conscious friend you have and for every pack sold, proceeds are donated to #thefigtreechildren helping support #orphanedandvulnerablechildren in #sierraleone which is one of the #poorestcountries in the world. See the link to how to purchase the cards in our bio send those you love #handwrittenletters today We’ve got just the thing for you to write on! See more

09.01.2022 A Success story to be shared: Paul, one of our Fig Tree children came 2nd in his school year. This is the first report card we’ve seen so far! We can’t wait to see how the other children have been doing This is Peter and Paul, Paul (right) is sponsored through us (we’re still searching for a sponsor for Peter). These boys lost their father in the mudslide which killed over 1,000 people in 2017. Paul has come 2nd in his year and is being promoted! This is why we do what we ...do! To give children like Paul an opportunity they otherwise wouldn’t get. Maybe you would like to consider sponsoring Peter or know someone who would? $48 AUD per month is all it takes to directly impact this boy’s life Share our good news story with your friends. See all children we’re still waiting for sponsors for here: https://www.thefigtreechildren.org/sponsor-a-child/

07.01.2022 Not everyone can commit to sponsoring a child. At $48 AUD per month, it's a commitment. But without our sponsors, we wouldn't be able to give an opportunity to 76 children. We appreciate all of our sponsors so very much If you can't commit to being a sponsor but would still like to be part of our Fig Tree family, you can by becoming one of our Ambassadors. Our Ambassador programme has three levels, Bronze at $10 per month, Silver at $15 per month and Gold at $25 per month. ... Our Ambassador programme is limited to 100 Ambassadors, which if achieved, will allow us to become more sustainable and enable us to register more vulnerable children for our Sponsorship programme. It will help us plan our programmes moving forward. See how you can become an ambassador here: https://www.thefigtreechildren.org/donation-form-become-an/ #becomeanambassador #sponsorachild #thefigtreechildren #giveopportunity #opportunityforall
