23.01.2022 Detectives attached to Taskforce Prosper are seeking information regarding a burglary at a Claremont Firearms, 28 Erceg Road, Yangebup last night, Thursday 21 N...ovember 2019. Just after 11:30pm the owner of the store became aware of an alarm activation at Claremont Firearms. Upon arrival at the premises it was established there had been a burglary. Entry to the premises had occurred through a neighbouring property in Cutting Way, Yangebup. Police were called to the scene and an investigation into the burglary was commenced. At this time it is believed approximately 100 firearms were stolen, however a formal audit of stock has not yet been completed. It is believed the stolen firearms are mainly handguns. Detectives would like to speak to anyone who has information regarding this burglary, or who has dash-cam vision that was recorded in the Yangebup area between Wednesday 20 November 2019 and the early hours of this morning, Friday 22 November 2019. Detective Inspector Peter Foley from the Serious and Organised Crime Division said significant police resources are deployed to assist with the investigation. Taskforce Prosper has commenced to investigate the burglary at Claremont Firearms and related offences. The recovery of the stolen firearms is a major priority of WA Police Force. Firearms, particularly handguns, present a real risk to the community, and it is fair to say the intended destination of the stolen firearms is the black market, and into the hands of criminals. The community can be assured that police officers will be working 24/7 to investigate this incident and recover the firearms. Anyone with information or dash-cam vision regarding this burglary, or who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Erceg Road and Cutting Way area between Wednesday and the early hours of this morning, are asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au. Dash-cam vision can be uploaded via this link: https://wapf.au.evidence.com//publ/yangebup-firearms-theft

17.01.2022 URGENT UPDATE Very Powerful Firearms Reasonable justification in WA Recently WAPOL have been sending letters to licensed firearms owners in WA who own ‘Very Powerful Firearms’ (VPF) The police define VPF as firearms designed to hit targets at 1500 metres and further" more commonly known as Long Range Precision Rifles.... We understand the letters are being sent to anyone who has a firearm chambered in .300 or greater and are requesting the licensed firearm owner to justify the possession of ‘such very powerful firearms’ by demonstrating they ‘possess suitable shooting skills and experience to safely and effectively engage targets at these extended distances.’ The police are no doubt looking for excuses to revoke firearms licences for these particular firearms. You will need to word your response very carefully to prevent your licence being revoked. If you receive one of these letters, please feel free to contact us. If you have already responded to the police and your licence is revoked, we are happy to help. With a unified, consistent approach, each shooter has a better chance of keeping their guns. Save our numbers in your phone. Remember we do all types of criminal legal work. Ms Karrie Louden 0481 307 253, Mr Ross Williamson 0407 426 796

16.01.2022 Just a reminder to make sure you have your licence expiry date written in your diary and you have put a reminder in your phone. It is your responsibility to make sure your renewal is paid on time. If you have not got a renewal letter make sure you contact Firearms Branch and get one organised.

14.01.2022 Ella Valla Station, and shooters generally, had a big win this week in the State Administrative Tribunal. Ella Valla successfully challenged the right of the police to impose onerous and unnecessary conditions on its shooting range. The Tribunal, after long legal argument, accepted that the general nature of the conditions the police wanted to impose exceeded the scope of police power. So the Tribunal "set aside" the police decision to impose those unlawful conditions, and re...ferred the matter back to the police for consideration, but this time to stay within their limited powers (which are much more limited than they thought they were, and which do not really present problem). The Tribunal has invited Ella Valla to make submissions regarding the question of costs. Ella Valla is hopeful that some of the money spent on the case will be recovered from the police. This is a big win for shooters generally. In my experience police frequently do things which are not permitted by the law. For example, they impose conditions on licences which are beyond their power. Often they search vehicles, people and homes without lawful justification. It is difficult to convince a court or tribunal of this. This case has ramifications outside shooting ranges. The police have recently been imposing oppressive and unnecessary conditions on shooting ranges in WA. But, now, according to the Tribunal, those conditions are of no legal effect. Indeed, in my opinion, many conditions imposed on firearms licences also are invalid. This case will support my argument. This court win was the result of a team effort. My legal argument was developed with the immense help of other lawyers, Michael Ryan and Karrie Louden. It could not have happened without the tenacity of Shane Aylmore. Absolutely crucial was the financial support of SSAA (WA) and indivual shooters. Without SSAA this result simply would have been impossible. Ron Bryant, the President, and his team took a risk backing this case. Thankfully it was a winner. Without SSAA life would be much tougher for shooters. See more

04.01.2022 *** WA Licence Revocations *** Recently we have been contacted by shooters whose firearms licences have been revoked after they have applied to add a firearm to their licence. The application has the effect of giving notice to the Firearms Branch that the shooter has been convicted of a an offence (typically a minor Firearms Act offence). The police then decide that the shooter is unfit to have a licence and revoke it. In some instances we are able to get the licence ba...ck by going through the expensive and time consuming process of a State Administrative Tribunal appeal, but not in all cases. Moral of the story: if you have a criminal conviction, of any kind, be aware that your licence could be cancelled if the police have any reason to review your licence. Don’t apply for an addition after a conviction without legal advice. Save our numbers in your phone. Remember we do all types of criminal legal work. 02.01.2022 As it is common knowledge now, Firearms Branch at WAPOL is working overtime to make life difficult for firearms licence applicants. Whether you apply for another .22, or your first .338 Lapua magnum, applicants are getting endless requests to provide "more information" or unjustified rejections. My office is being inundated with calls from frustrated shooters. Many shooters have been forced to go to the State Administrative Tribunal to pursue their applications. Unfortunate...ly this is an expensive process. One SAT case coming up soon relates to a .408 Chey tac. My client has applied to add that to his licence but the police have refused. They say that he can use a .308 instead to shoot camels. SSAA (WA) recognises the importance of this test case. As it has done so many times before, SSAA has put its money where its mouth is and has agreed to fund the cost of this appeal. I have been involved in the legal and political battles faced by shooters since 1992 (when public duck shooting was banned in WA) and SSAA has always been there, on the frontline as well as in the back rooms, in court rooms and in the offices of politicians, batting hard for shooters. Since then Rick Mazza and the Shooters Party have come on the scene and that has helped enormously. I really do urge all shooters to join the SSAA. Otherwise you have, realistically, no right to complain. Save our numbers to your phone Ross Williamson - 0407 426 796 [email protected] Karrie Louden - 0481 307 253 [email protected]
