16.01.2022 What exactly goes into making cakes and do we really only make $9 an hour?! 10 hours of work includes; messaging/calling/emailing customer to confirm the order details, designing the cake, checking inventory, driving to the grocery store, shopping, driving to the specialty cake store, unpacking groceries, measuring/mixing ingredients, baking cake, cooling cake, mixing buttercream/ganache/filling, crumb coating the cake, chilling the cake, coating the cake again, chilling the ...cake, final cover of the cake, cutting/arranging flowers, photographing the cake, marketing, boxing the cake & cleaning the kitchen This price does not include; cake accounting software, the initial cost of cake tins, kitchen scales, palette knives, cleaning supplies, etc. Working as The Friendly Baker is an amazing creative outlet and a wonderful opportunity to treat our customers, but we have had some customers tell us recently that our prices are too high. We always do our best to make the prices as affordable as possible, but we ask you to consider the costs involved in making cakes on a small scale from home. 03.01.2022 Solar System Cake!! Humidity proved a challenge this week, but I’m really happy with how it turned out in the end Due to the high sugar content in fondant and buttercream, humidity causes them to become sticky, meaning colours are more likely to run and it’s harder to work with/smooth fondant. I managed to problem solve a few issues... whilst managing my stress ... What do you think of the end result??
