21.01.2022 Good to see GG's Scott Chipperfield involved in the call for greater input from clubs and improved standards in South Coast Football (in NSW). As well as producing players in the Golden Generation like Chippers and Luke and Mile, the Illawarra region has long been a hotbed of football talent going back to the 19th century and has a proud heritage in the game. Let's keep it that way. https://www.illawarramercury.com.au//inside-the-new-batt/

21.01.2022 When it comes to owning our biggest asset, we'd like to see football in Australia with it's very own 'netflix'-style FFA TV. We have so much to offer: A-League, W-League, Socceroos, Matildas, FFA Cup, National Second Division, state leagues, national youth competitions, and more. Football shows. Chat shows. Q&A shows. You name it. This would help engage with players & supporters at every level.... It gives opportunities to commercialise at every level of the game. And most of all, it emphasises football's competitive edge over other sports - it's played by men, women, kids, older generations. We have that. No other sport does to the same level at home and around the world. Let's make the most of it!

20.01.2022 When it comes to expanding the football footprint (another of our priorities), we want to give more players more playing time. It's that simple. For us, this means: * Expanding the A-League to 16 teams by 2022. * For every A-League club also to have a W-League team. * Introduce a national second division for men with full pro/rel by 2023. ... * Introduce a national second division for women by 2025. If we host the 2023 World Cup, there is absolutely no excuse if this is not done; but even if we do miss out, we should leverage our participation by giving more young women more opportunities to play the game also. 20.01.2022 Happy 15th anniversary!

19.01.2022 Just imagine ... FFA TV. It is the way of the future - and a not-so-distant one at that. For those who haven't subscribed to our e-news, we sent out our first one yesterday evening. Sign-up for the latest from us and stay in touch.

19.01.2022 There are many iconic photos of Diego #Maradona. Here is one that says so much about just how good he was, from the 1982 World Cup vs Belgium. RIP Legend.

16.01.2022 We were pleased to have a long chat with FFA CEO, James Johnson, last night about all things football. We thank him for his time. It is refreshing to have a football person in that job. Don't forget we'd like to chat with YOU also, if you're involved with a club or association - men and women. Please register here and we'll get back to you. https://www.thegoldengeneration.org.au/in-conversation

16.01.2022 Interesting to read the report today in the Fairfax media that the #ALeague is due to start end December and end in June. 6 months season. Because that's what suits the TV deal (and also getting over before the Olympics). But imagine if we had our own 'FFA TV' and we could decide when our season runs. ... https://www.smh.com.au//new-a-league-season-set-to-begin-d

16.01.2022 Good to see Football Supporters Australia thinking about a possible different broadcast future also, following on from our post here on Thursday May 28th (one of our priorities). If you haven't seen it, they are trying to gauge support for FFA going it alone on a 'whole of football' broadcast option. Check out #ItsOurGame www.itsourgame.com.au

16.01.2022 It's good to hear in this interview with James Johnson via Simon Hill that he is talking about many of the things we (and others, such as Association of Australian Football Clubs) have been talking about and pushing for some time. Now let's make it happen! https://sport.optus.com.au///simon-hill-with-james-johnson

14.01.2022 We'd love to know more about the issues that impact on grassroots, junior clubs, so we're inviting clubs and associations to register to have a conversation with us about these issues. Please complete the form below and we'll then set-up a 'round table' discussion (via Zoom or similar) with some members of The Golden Generation so we can better understand the issues that affect your club or your association. This will help us understand these issues better and, hopefully..., help us help you. Register via this link only: https://www.thegoldengeneration.org.au/in-conversation

14.01.2022 Today, we've written to all existing FFA Congress members (or their representatives), as well as groups such as the AAFC, coaches, referees, supporters, women's associations about what we hope to achieve, our priorities, and our willingness to work with *all* parts of the football 'family' in doing so. Since 2006, with the exception of the Matildas and the Asian Cup win in 2015, our national teams have mostly failed to impress at international tournaments. Instead of leveragi...ng the performances and lessons of 2005 and building and improving on what our group achieved, we have at best stagnated and, at worst, gone backwards. As former teammates, we have sat by and watched as the situation in respect of grassroots and community football, elite player development ,and domestic competitions, have continued to deteriorate over the past 15 years. All of us learned our football in the 1980s and 1990s, when the pathway, environment and experiences for young players were very different from today. While the changes that have been introduced may have been designed to fit within a ‘system’, the result is that our players are not getting enough playing time compared with their peers in overseas leagues, and the outcome of that is plain to see when they compete internationally. Like many in the Australian community we have had reason to reflect recently. In our case, it's what can we be doing, and what should we be to help support the game we love, and what contribution can we make. This is why we're here: to bring an independent and coordinated voice to urge a re-think - where necessary and make suggestions - where we can - on the many issues that we think are critical to the future and sustained success of football in Australia. Have a good weekend all.

14.01.2022 STATEMENT FROM US We have sought independent counsel, and are across the issues, in the defamation case brought by Football Queensland against Bonita Mersiades. (In case you are not familiar with it, you can read about it here https://www.jensweinreich.de//how-an-out-of-touch-federat/) We want to make it clear that we support Bonita.... The Golden Generation was established earlier this year for one simple reason: we want to take the game forward and secure Australia’s football future. That is why we put forward five goals to achieve that: to expand the football footprint, to unite the game, to focus on football, to re-boot the A-League, and to own our biggest assets. For far too long, the game has lost touch with the people who matter most: fans, players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and all those who have helped build the game over decades and who help make it tick-over every day in more than 2,500 clubs across the country. We are here for those people, of whom Bonita is one. Australian football needs passionate football people. It needs people who live and breathe it, and who do not think about what football can do for them, but what they can do for football. We urge the Board of Football Queensland to drop this spurious defamation action against Bonita or be forever condemned for failing to put football first. We urge the boards of the nine other federations to advise their fellow Congress members to do likewise. We urge those who are in positions of power in football to welcome - and to get used to - transparency and accountability in their custodianship of our game. And we urge the real football people of Australia to stand with us against the culture of intimidation and bullying which appears, sadly, to have pervaded the highest management levels of our game. This might be about ‘getting’ one person as far as Football Queensland is concerned. But in going after one of us, you are going after all of us. * * * P.S. You can donate to a GoFundMe campaign to assist Bonita with her legal costs. Any unused funds will be donated to the Pararoos via the Australian Sports Foundation. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-bonita-m

13.01.2022 What a great day June 26th is for football in Australia. Congratulations to FFA, Football NZ, the Matildas & the Football Ferns. Playing on home soil is a wonderful opportunity for the Matildas and Football Ferns to shine on their own turf in front of their home fans, and we hope the tournament motivates and inspires young girls in both countries to play our game. This is a monumental opportunity for football. We know how big a World Cup is, and what a great time visitors an...d local fans can have. This win is a great boost not only to women’s football but the game overall. It is also vital that the World Cup leave a legacy for the sport, the most important one being around better facilities. The single biggest event in any Olympic Games is also the football tournament, yet when Sydney hosted the 2000 Olympics, football largely missed out a substantial legacy in terms of facilities or assets, even though the football tournament was played in five cities. Our view is that must not let this happen again. Football is the most popular sport in the world, and it’s also the most popular in Australia based on the number of people who play the game. We need spaces we can call our own and places to play. We're looking forward to seeing the Matildas lead the way in terms of national team success. Great competition delivers better results, and better results brings more competition. The Matildas success is the game’s success, and it should also give fresh impetus to everyone in the game to emulate the women’s achievements. We’re looking forward to the journey as the Matildas work to be crowned world champions in 2023.

11.01.2022 Another of our priorities is to focus on football. By that we mean, put more money into football and less into administration. We would like to see: * FFA Congress expanded to include greater representation of the football family. The Congress we have now leaves out important and vital representative groups who make this game tick. * the money in football go to fund football activities, not layers of administration that tend to come up with more and red tape and outsourced duties for overworked volunteers. * football administration aligned with one strategic policy direction with state-based operations.

07.01.2022 Looking fit and healthy - contrary to the misinformed views of some - pleased to say we told you so in relation to captain Lucas. So happy he’s back with us and we helped make that happen. https://www.smh.com.au//the-images-that-prove-lucas-neill-

06.01.2022 Good to see the news about the A-League completing the 2019-20 season. Now we see what happens down the track, especially in terms of a broadcast deal. As you know, we believe that we should be heading down the pathway of a FFA TV option, and we've reminded all parties of this today. We think this idea is gaining momentum also. We get that it can be an alarming prospect for the business model of the traditional broadcasters and they may downplay the idea of it, but the facts... are that football fans want to see more quality content at their fingertips, and at times they want to see it. Many of you will know it's already being done around the world with big, big clubs - so it can happen here too. The fact is: the current broadcaster does not see our sport as important enough, and does nothing to help it (for example, getting rid of all their specialist football journos). That's fine, they are entitled to their opinion, but we reckon they are wrong about the level of support and unmet demand. We hope that FFA & the A-League clubs get away from 20th century thinking and 20th century broadcast models in re-shaping what happens once this season is over. Check-out our latest statement here giving them a little push in the right direction https://www.thegoldengeneration.org.au/news

05.01.2022 If you read the report from Fairfax's Michael Lynch yesterday, you will know that we have further urged Hyundai A-League clubs & FFA to consider a 'FFA TV' concept. Most do, but some do not, understand the relevance of this concept for our game; we get that because it's different from traditional broadcasting. We are happy to talk about it in a civil fashion anytime. For the benefit of those who are interested and do understand, or would like to understand, where the sports ...broadcasting world is heading, have a read of our paper about how we think we could make the most out of our biggest asset - our people - and how FFA TV could work. https://www.thegoldengeneration.org.au/ffa-tv

04.01.2022 A big week for Australian and New Zealand football fans. We are feeling quietly confident this time around - not the same 'games' at play or international consultants in sight - and we reckon #AsOne2023 can 'bring home the bacon' as Big Kev used to say to us. All the best to past, current and aspiring Westfield Matildas and Football Ferns players. A great opportunity for women's and men's football to improve. Let's do this!

04.01.2022 We're looking forward to the first forum with club/association representatives this week (via Zoom). If you are not part of the first one, there will be more. And if you haven't yet registered, you can do so here: https://buff.ly/2WDfWfJ
