25.01.2022 PRESCHOOLERS ~ Sleep issues aren’t reserved for babies unfortunately. Children aged 3-5 and onwards also can experience troubles with sleep. ~ At this age your little one is going through a lot developmentally, they might also be starting preschool, managing friendships, and struggling with bedtime fears. ~ There are some great strategies to help with this age group and bedtime. Some examples are; introducing a nightlight, having a reward chart and rewarding the bedtime behaviour you would like to stick around, having lots of conversations about what is expected with sleep and why sleep is important and giving your little one empathy and comfort around what might be happening for them at night-time #sleep #toddler #preschooler #sleepissues #canberra #sleepspecialist #canberramums

22.01.2022 TODDLER NAPS ~ The most common age your toddler will want to drop their nap is around 3 years old. ~ You might start noticing that your babe begins to take longer to fall asleep for their nap, they might cry more going down at night and take a long time to settle to sleep. They might also begin waking more in the night or wake earlier in the morning. These are all signs that your toddler might be ready to drop that beloved day nap completely. ~ In the first few weeks of dropping the day nap your babe might need a little nap every few days or perhaps after a few big/busy days when they are feeling really tired and need a little catch up nap. This is totally ok to do so long as it doesn’t affect their night sleep #toddlerlife #toddlersleep #naptime #droppingdaynap #sleep #sleepconsultant #canberra #mama #canberramums

22.01.2022 PRACTICE ~ If you’re finding your little one is having trouble sleeping because they have recently learnt a new skill... rolling, crawling, pulling up etc. ~ Give them LOTS of time to practice in their awake time so that they can work on mastering their new skill. ~ This will not only tire them out for sleep but decrease their need to practice this whilst their meant to be asleep #newskills #developmentalmilestones #babysleep #canberra

19.01.2022 PLAY TIME ~ Having play time with your baby is a wonderful way to bond and connect with your little one. ~ Play time varies depending on the age of your baby. When they are newborns it nights simply be some time looking at mum or dads face and interacting for 20 mins before they get sleepy. ~ As your babe gets older they become more interested in playing games with you, water play, peek-a-boo, blocks, outside play.... the options are endless!! ... ~ Have fun mamas #baby #playtime #sleep #canberra #sleepconsultant See more

06.01.2022 TIRED or HUNGRY ~ It can be difficult to decipher whether your newborn is tired or hungry. Often the signs are quite similar. ~ Rooting and sucking can be a sign that baby is ready to feed and it can also be a sign that they want to suck to soothe and go to sleep. ~ If you’re second guessing what the signs might be telling you, have a think about when baby last had a feed and if you feel it was a nice big feed. Then take a look at some other signs your baby might be giving... you. ~ If baby has jittery movements, is yawning, staring off into space, hiccuping or becoming irritable it is likely they are ready for sleep rather than a feed. ~ In time you will get to know your baby and feel more confident in picking up on their communication #babytalk #tiredsigns #hungersigns #sleep #canberra #sleepconsultant #canberramums See more
