Commencing employment in 1985 as a receptionist at the university’s student union, this position included assisting with the planning & preparation of graduation ceremonies. Janette’s passion for academic dress grew, resulting in the formation of a dedicated graduation gown hire department, which evolved to become the largest single source of income for the organisation. After resigning from her position in 2017, Janette used her experience and knowledge in the specialised area of academic dress to start her own company. The Gown Chick now has a stock of over 1,000 graduation gowns as well as countless hoods in a variety of colours to suit degrees up to and including PhD. The Gown Chick continues to build a strong customer base amongst schools and colleges Australia wide, while a strong focus on customer service remains Janette's number one priority.
