You get stronger through recovery, yep! That’s why we include ‘deload’ periods in between cycles (after 1RM week). During deload week/s, training is less intense & heavy, and more endurance focused. This allows time for muscles to repair, recover and rebuild, and you’ll be rested and ready with more efficient performance for the next strength cycle. #grounders #justgrounded #theground

I started ‘Gym Training’ when I was 18 and then by the time I was 22 I dived head first 100% into ‘Strength and Conditioning’ where I met my wife Cass. Fast forward to now my health and fitness journey is my favourite way of life. What’s your favourite thing about being a coach at The Ground? Some of my favourite parts of being a coach at The Ground is being able to pass on my knowledge and skills, the members and also being able to have a laugh with the community! What do you like to do when you aren’t busy coaching? To be honest, I really enjoy spending as much time as I can with Charlotte and Cass. I love the family that we have made. 20.01.2022 GET TO KNOW OUR G-TEAM! Introducing Coach Anece You will catch Anece coaching the HIIT classes, and may see her jumping in S&C, or you will often see her in classes training herself. Anece is a qualified Fitness Trainer with her Cert 3 & 4 in fitness and is a Weightlifting Sports Power Coach. She is also a busy Mum, Stepmum, runs a business with her husband and even has a Bachelor in Business and Psychology - a jack of all trades! She is there to support you during your c...lass and always up for a chat. Q&A with Coach Anece Tell us about your journey into fitness and your qualifications - I have always been into fitness playing basketball for many years but I didn't get into weight training until after I had my youngest child. I started at a gym and used training as a bit of me time. I quickly fell in love with the feeling of being strong. That love turned into pushing myself further by entering a few bodybuilding competitions and finally led to a complete career change now being able to pursue a job for passion. I have now fallen for the S&C style workouts since being at the Ground. I have been fortunate enough to continue my studies by recently upskilling into olympic weightlifting training. I love the fitness industry because it is always evolving and you can never stop learning. Why did you join the G-TEAM? I actually applied on whim after my friend encouraged me to just go for it. Lucky for me it paid off and I haven’t looked back since. I absolutely love coming to work and doing what I do. I truly believe The Ground is the best gym in Cairns. We have the best members, I have the best bosses and I get to spend my day with an awesome team of girls. What’s something our Grounders don’t know about you? I played the saxophone in primary school. I got caught up in a whirlwind of Lisa Simpson and INXS. I was absolutely hopeless. Luckily, I wised up and put my extracurricular efforts into sports. 05.01.2022 I joined The Ground a bit over a year ago. I was initially nervous of joining a new gym, especially group fitness, but the moment I walked through the doors I felt instantly welcomed. Jake, Cass and the team are fantastic and they’ve created an environment that motivates you to learn and to grow. They encourage you to push yourself and to challenge yourself. It’s been incredibly empowering to watch my body grow stronger and to be able to do things I never thought I’d be able... to. 02.01.2022 The Ground has made me the fittest I’ve ever been. In two years, my strength is way above where I thought I could ever be. I love going to classes knowing there’s always going to be a challenge and with the awesome support of the knowledgeable coaches and other members, you always feel accomplished knowing you pushed yourself to the max. 01.01.2022 EXCITING UPDATE As of Saturday the 4th of July, classes will be returning to their normal format Under the Stage 3 COVID regulations for our industry:... Sharing of equipment is allowed Shower is OPEN As before, there is no booking required and no limit on numbers, we are open to members and casuals. The hygiene and cleaning practices will continue. This means that we ask that members continue to disinfect equipment at the end of each session. Our staff will continue ensuring the facility is clean & safe. The following regulations will continue - Use hand sanitiser upon entry Scan/check in at reception (contact tracing purposes) No towel, No workout 1.5m physical distancing Disinfect equipment used Water bubbler closed - water bottle refill only And as always, STAY HOME if you are unwell Remember to bring a CLEAN towel & water bottle for your session.
