22.01.2022 We've got these great guys live at The Guildford Sat 10th October 6pm

22.01.2022 Golden guitar winning legends The Cartwheels transformed a bitterly cold Saturday night outside at The Guilly into a hot bed of excitement with a mix of vibrant... western swing, honky tonk and old jazz standards such as 'After you've gone", 'My adobe hacienda' and 'My bucket's got a hole in it'. Talented vocalist and rhythm guitarist Wendy Phypers led the expanded band which included partner, bassist Dave Patterson, fiddlers Cathy Boerema and Nic Lyon, guitarist Howard Malkin, lap-steel player Pete Fidler and Tex Turkey on drums. Renowned R & B duo, guitarist Terry Murray and vocalist Gilly Eastoe joined The Cartwheels for a rousing rock segment which included 'Viva Las Vegas' with a wink to Elvis Presley. Sunday afternoon projected more of a burlesque cabaret mood as versatile jazz duo JadeByrd - Jade Ferguson and Peter Gavin - performed jazz and blues standards from the 1920s'-1950s playing double bass and guitar, muted trumpet, ukulele and kazoo to entertain the outside crowd. 'Sin to tell a lie', 'Summertime' and 'I'll see you in my dreams were favourites. Jade showed a talent for the blues with a moving rendition of 'Why don't you do right. The duo are great vocalists with a great sense of theatre, early jazz history and humour. Locals John Leyshon on double bass and Tex Turkey on drums added to the flavour. Valerie Colyer
