20.01.2022 We love our members and what they stand for! With it being Womens Health Week we wanted to share our dedicated members @emj.doesfitness post on mental health within the gym! Gym anxiety is so much more common then we think, I get gym anxiety when I go to a different gym the first time, it happens. We often get caught up in, what will others think? What if I am doing it wrong? What do I do? Luckily enough @thegymglenelg is one of the best gym communities to be a part o...f, no matter what someone is there to help with a machine, a spot or just to tell you are doing great. But unfortunately we have to get through that initial anxiety barrier to get to the good bit; the community, the gains, the increased confidence and all the other great outcomes of going to the gym. So how did I get through this barrier? Get a PT to teach you how to use some of the equipment in the gym and increase your confidence, they will also help give you a training split to ensure your maximizing your time in the gym. Train with a friend, you dont have to do the same thing, but just go with a friend, a familiar face can go a long way Wear a cute as hell outfit. Nothing boosts a girls confidence quite like an outfit that makes her feel good. Head phones in, and world out! A great playlist can really mean the difference between a good and a bad workout. REMEMBER: no one is actually judging you, the gym is a safe place. Everyone is usually too busy looking at themselves in the mirror.

He brings to our fitness community a passion for all things sports and fitness - this sportsman doesnt like to sit still! When he isnt motivating others to be healthy and fit, youll find him practicing Judo or Capoeira or playing soccer , volleyball or tennis . Pedro is inspired by helping others. With decades of teaching under her mic belt, Jackie has an eye for form and technique and will coach you through proper movements in every class while inspiring you to dig deep and get the most out of your workout. Jackie is a self-proclaimed post-punk yoga-loving vegan. She has a PhD in g...ene therapy and wound healing and also teaches Hypnobirthing and Childbirth education to expecting couples. When she isn’t leading a group fitness class, she enjoys spending quality family time with her husband, twin 13-year old daughters, and her 13-year old Border Collie. 02.01.2022 MEMBER SHOUTOUT Our dedicated member @mynameisali.__ talks about her journey with mental health this year. This year I discovered what burn-out felt like. Burnout can feel differently for everyone, but for me it was; low resilience, feeling overwhelmed, distracted, procrastinating more than usual, low job satisfaction, easily irritated and crap sleep patterns. I realized that while I have been hitting every training session and nailing my nutrition thinking I was on top... of my game, I wasn’t working on my mental health. Mental health is like our physical health we need to work on it every day to maintain it and make it stronger. Here are some tips I did to improve my mental health/mental toughness: - Practice gratitude and mindfulness daily (this can look like journaling, meditation or both) - Prioritise sleep - Cut out alcohol (or significantly reduce it) - Limit social media use or deactivate it - Unfollow social media accounts that don’t align to your values (and likewise, think about friendships, do some of these need to change?) - Spend more time reading or listening to podcasts (you’ll have heaps of spare time when you cut out social media) - Soak up sunshine when you can, 30 mins a day is plenty! - Talk to someone about how you are feeling; your friends, family, doctor, work mates. Some employers also have a free counselling program you can access (called EAP) - Stay hydrated, you’ll be surprised how much of a difference it makes! Small steps to big changes - don’t be afraid to put yourself first and nurture your mental health and lifestyle.
