22.01.2022 Autumn @goodness_superfoods porridge with banana, cocoa, cinnamon, walnut, pumpkin seed and honey on a Monday morning with my note pad ready (bargain purchase from kikki.k). Bring on an awesome week!!

22.01.2022 Good morning! Cant get pass this porridge with honey on a chilly winter morning in Sydney today. Happened to have a bag of nut mix in my bag so I recreated the porridge with some extra protein, healthy fats, magnesium, potassium, maganese, vitamin B, vitamin E, dietary fibre and antioxidant. 21.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone!! I cant believe its been 9 months since I posted here. In the last 9 months, lots had happened!! Healthy Energy continued to grow, I got married in October and time slipped away just like that! So now that I am back, I will be sharing drool worthy pictures, recipes, articles and stories with you all. As you may know, I have been doing one-on-one cooking consultations (a.k.a Cooksultations) for a while and my clients just love it!! No surprise, a d...elicious dish is more well received than a meal plan. I want to be able to reach and inspire more people and I am planning to launch a Wholesome Cooking Club in March, a casual weekly cooking class to gather people, cook, share, eat and start a healthy community. These cooking classes are based on whole foods, minimal packaged foods, easy, quick and burst with nutrition quality. Once in a while we should have a cooking party where people can share recipes, we eat together and meet new friends! Do you think its a good idea and will you join us? I really want to know what would you like to learn? Please comment below and watch this space!

21.01.2022 I love local produce and love visiting farms and learn about their stories and what makes their produce unique. Watching this video about how Meredith Goats Cheese are makes me want to pay a trip some day :)

21.01.2022 Food is a necessity, is nourishment to our body. Its really really sad and worrying to see people coming through the door telling us they want a more unbiased opinion about what we should be eating because they are confused and rather not eat anything. I saw a few new clients today and ALL of them have created fear around food and nutrition because theres just so much crap out there promoting magical diets, superfoods, teaching people theres only one way to eat and everyon...e should follow raw vegan, paleo, clear cut with sugar this and that. Have we forgotten how to listen to our body? Or are company nowadays have just lost their morals? As a nutritionist, all we can do is educate people but this scarcity got to stop! Not using superfoods in your diet or following any extreme ways of eating thats clearly not practical for your lifestyle does not mean you are a bad person or one who do not take ownership of your health. Just go back to basic, listen to your body and take what you hear with a pinch a salt! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

21.01.2022 Excellent article on using foods to balance your hormones. 'The side effects of hormonal changes are not always something we need to either heavily medicate or dismiss as just part of life.'

18.01.2022 What a weekend!! It was so hectic I couldnt even get a chance to share with you our comments on Sydney Morning Herald about how to eat healthy on a budget. Having to cook my own meals since being a student, I understand spending money smart on food and grocery is very important but the nutrition quality of what you buy must not be compromised. If youve purchased todays (Sunday) Sunday Age, you will also find the article.

18.01.2022 Happy Monday!!! Hope you all have a good start of the week. Okay, so I have been wanting to do Product Reviews for who knows how long. Theres this little voice in me keep saying no you are not good enough, dont bother, no ones going to watch it blah blah blah... today I decided Im just gonna do it! I can find hundreds of reasons not to put it up including my first line that sounds like hey Sarah! rather than hey, its Sarah. But Ive uploaded it and heres the link. I reviewed Coles 7 Ancient Grains. Let me know your thoughts, like, share and comment if you want me to do more product reviews and let me know what products do you want me to review on. x

18.01.2022 So honored to be one of the contributors for Health for Life Kitchen along side with renowned dietitians and chefs like Dr. Sue Shepherd, Joanna Turner and Rick Grant a.k.a Uncle Rick. Check out our first blog. Key Success to Weight Loss - Know your body, love your body.

17.01.2022 Found this article on my Facebook feed this morning, I cant help but read further. The study says that yoghurt consumption doesnt improve health-related QOL and heres my thoughts: A headline like this send messages to people thinking theres no point eating yoghurt and yoghurt is not helpful. We know that yoghurt contains probiotics which is beneficial to maintain a good bacteria balance and yoghurt also provide a good source of protein and calcium, and its yummy!! Yes so...me commercially made yoghurt is heat treated, overly processed with artificial sweeteners, flavors, thickeners, preservatives and colours. But making such blanket statement is not fair to the other health benefits that yoghurt (well more so fermented dairy) provides. If you are dairy or lactose intolerance, fair enough to cut down. But if you are not, chose a yoghurt that have minimal chemical and preservatives, ones that contains mostly wholefoods. Or make your own. There are certainly studies out there showing probiotics containing yoghurt and fermented foods can prevent illnesses and disease such as diabetes, heart disease and gut related conditions. A healthy body starts with a strong and healthy digestion system.

17.01.2022 Doing research on a sunny Sunday means I deserve to find some interesting facts: Eat nuts ~29g a day for more than 5 times a week can reduce your risk of getting diabetes by 27%. Nuts can be a form of whole nuts or nut butter e.g. peanut butter. If you are afraid of the increased calorie, substitute refined grains and red meat to nuts and nut butter.... Hope everyone else is enjoying the sunshine!! 29g nuts equals ~24 almonds, 9 halves of walnut, 8 Brazil nuts or 14 macadamias.

16.01.2022 Thank you Popsugar Australia for sharing my message on healthy eating :)

16.01.2022 This is quite a sad article to read as we find out we are getting lonelier during meal times. Eating alone not only taking the social engagement away as we believe that food connects! But knowing that the first reason why people eat alone is so that they can catch up on reading and TV..... thats mindful eating out the window...

15.01.2022 Are you really following a Paleo diet? Read my views on The New Daily.

14.01.2022 Excellent article on using foods to balance your hormones. The side effects of hormonal changes are not always something we need to either heavily medicate or dismiss as just part of life.

13.01.2022 It would be great if one day fibre get marketed as 'superfood' like coconut oil, goji berries etc do... But truly, fibre in my opinion is a superfood, can be inexpensive, it's is in a range of whole foods and it does the body wonders and most people aren't eating enough of it. Fibre is a key player in keeping your gut flora and variety healthy. So, just keep that in mind. Besides your probiotics, kombucha, fermented vegetables, don't forget the humble fibre from fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, lentils and nuts.

09.01.2022 This is interesting! I am one who love to take photos with foods and found clients are often excited to share photos of their food. Perhaps dietitians and nutritionist can ask clients to do more pictorial food diary then just simply ask people to write things down. This will probably make the consultation more fun.

09.01.2022 I always tell my clients, we have more gut bacteria the body then the number of cells. More and more research show that what we eat is directly linked with the ecology of the gut bacteria and this can change in the matter of days. It is crucial to keep them happy so they can produce nutrients for us and keep us well. While the research mentioned in this article doesnt conclude the result translate 100% to human but we shall see more and more research come out in the next few years to tell us more. In May, one of our community classes will be focused on building a healthy gut as well as a workshop on fermented foods. Stay tuned and look after your gut!

09.01.2022 Another fun fact from the research. Substitute rice with legumes can also prevent diabetes and heres my dinner. Small serve of mixed rice with veggies, sausages and chickpea stew with turmeric (another good anti-inflammatory). Hope you had a great Sunday!!

09.01.2022 When sugar free is not really sugar free... I was looking for a muesli recipe and one came up saying sugar-free muesli bar. I thought it was a little bit too good to be true. I clicked on and started reading the ingredients. One of the ingredients is brown rice syrup 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon extra to make 15 bars. Sorry but to me that is NOT a sugar free recipe. Brown rice syrup also has a very high glycaemic index of 98. ... This recipe is from a blog from a group that advocates sugar free/sugar quitting, but by putting up this recipe labelled as sugar free is highly misleading. 1/4 cup + 1 tb rice malt syrup is 86g sugar, to divide it to 15 bars is only 5.7g per bar which I think is acceptable but this is absolutely not sugar free. Apparently how this book/blog defines sugar free is different from how other people (or nutritionists) interpret it. I just thought I will put my 2 cents out there to help you identify that a recipe doesnt have sugar listed as an ingredient doesnt necessarily mean it is sugar free.

07.01.2022 Many people take fish oil supplement for its well known heart health promoting benefits. While there are strong science to support its health benefits, unfortunately the quality of many over the counter fish oil supplements varies and it might be hard for customers to look beyond the marketing and find out whats the real deal. I hope sonner or later we will have a better system and regulations to control the quality of nutritional supplements to make sure they are up to standard to protect our consumers, just like what we do with prescribed drugs. How do you chose your nutritional supplements?

07.01.2022 Feeling nerdy, Sunday reading... Evidence-based integrative and complementary medicine. #books #sunday #holistichealth #integrativemedicine #nerd #study

07.01.2022 All Health starts in the gut and the end product (poop) can tell you whats really happening!!!

06.01.2022 Not sleeping well? Maybe review what you have for dinner. This paper suggest that eating a meal that contains more saturated fats, sugar and less fibre is associated with lighter, less restorative, and more disrupted sleep. If you want to sleep like a baby, better load up those veggies on your plate tonight!

06.01.2022 This post is for my frequent flyers. I see lots of clients who travel interstate for work regularly. It is challenging to manage healthy eating while you are away. Find your nearby supermarket or health food store and stock up on some healthy snacks and breakfast. My pick for the Sydney trip this weekend: fruit, Chobani yoghurt and Brookfarm muesli for daily breakfast, 2Die4 Live Foods nut mix, Pana Chocolate for snack and a good magazine Collective Hub for the plane ride home.

06.01.2022 Watch this space about curcumin from turmeric!! I start to see many golden milk, golden yoghurt popping up on my social media feeds. No doubt theres so many benefits of this super herb/spice. Adding it into soups, stews, stir frys can give you extra flavor!! This one talks about curcumin in sports and exercise!

03.01.2022 Michael Pollan is one of my biggest inspiration who got me stepped up to create Healthy Energy Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle Centre. I was lucky enough to see him talk at a conference in San Francisco this May. He talked about how disconnected with the kitcten we are that we outsource our meals to food manufacturers rather than cooking it ourselves hence affect our health and well being. Our Cooksultations was developed from this concept. As nutritionists, it is important that we know how to cook so we can pass on the knowledge to our clients and inspire them to get back into the kitchen and become confident about cooking. We can teach you basics such as how to chop garlic and we can also teach you more advance stuff! #cooked #michaelpollan

03.01.2022 Convincing Mr. Tan to have a vegetarian dinner is not easy... but having him say it is so tasty that he doesnt need to look for the meat, thats a big win. Homemade Korean style marinaded tofu, rainbow veggie fried rice and fried egg. I used Coles 7 ancient grains ready to eat rice. Its new on the market and its pretty impressive.

02.01.2022 I just received the best testimonial!! So, my mum has travelled from Hong Kong and has been living with me in the last three weeks. Apparently, the idea of living with a dietitian is scary. Well I can see where she is coming from. They say you can never change your family because they will never listen. That is true but I am glad that I got somewhere! And yes, mom you are right, listening to a dietitian is NOT about giving up your favourite food. Love you mum x

01.01.2022 I am so privileged and proud to be the nutritionist of Nash working with so many stars of tomorrow. 4 years now and still counting...
