25.01.2022 For those who were at my talk yesterday, here are my two floppy babies all nice and Turgid (oh that word!) after a good long soaking. Foliage feels nice and firm and perky again. Dont forget to touch and feel your leaves all the time. Getting to know them is the best type of water meter you can have!

24.01.2022 Remind yourselves of this everyday #awesome #inspiration #foliage #quotes #colour #watermelon #peperomia #houseplansofinstagram #myplants #leaf #silver #pumpkin

24.01.2022 Bath time for the quintuplets The idea of potting into the terra-cotta is working...they need bathing more than once a week!! oh how exhausting parenthood is

24.01.2022 Ive been wondering for ages what the third plant would be to join my snow queen and peperomia beauties...and have decided Tradescantia quicksilver is stunning enough #trio #awesome #plants #inspiration #inspire #variegatedplants #quicksilver #pothos #pot #hangingplants #basket #peperomia #snowqueen #jungle

23.01.2022 Need help with your Snow Queen? I havent shown this beauty off recently so here goes. My TOP TIPS for an amazing SNOW QUEEN ... Leave in the plastic pot when you get it home Ensure you allow the soil to dry completely between watering. You will clearly know when it needs water because the leaves will feel a bit soft. Simple. Just touch it all the time. Ensure it gets plenty of indirect light. This lives a meter from a large window. Add some liquid feed such as Seasol Powerfeed or thrive every 2nd or 3rd watering but always after the soil is wet through first to avoid fertilizer burn If keeping in a hanging basket. Place a saucer or bowl underneath the pot inside the cover pot. Water into this with 2-3 centimeters and the soil will soak it up. No need to move your plant. This really is a simple plant that literally tells you when to water. Just dont fuss with it from the start. Get it home and leave it alone!

22.01.2022 5 VERY LONG years ...the process of creating and growing a Phalaenopsis orchid. Grown here in Adelaide by our only local grower of these spectacular plants. I enjoyed a visit this week to our only Adelaide Phalaenopsis orchid grower and asked if I could share the lengthy, precise process of how these get from Tissue Culture labs overseas to a flowering plant in a garden center. So here goes...... Mass production begins overseas in laboratories that produce plants by Tissue Culture. (Like most of the indoor plants you buy) This is a clean, sterile and quick(ish) way to get mass plants into Australia. After arriving in little tubs, usually in agar, a sterile jellylike growing medium, they are then hand planted individually into the peat plugs. They then spend 8 months in a nice warm temperature controlled room growing to a size thats big enough to be potted. They are then potted into the clear plastic pot that you eventually buy them in. The orchids then spend several years growing in different rooms set at certain temperatures until finally moving into cooler rooms to not only start the flowering process but to also harden off ready for the home environment. This is then, after 5 long years that you guys purchase these beautiful plants. Well worth every cent I think!! I believe its great to know how our plants are created and grown to help reduce some of the mystery that surrounds it and provide accurate information about the process.

22.01.2022 Every now and then I share a little bit of my outdoor jungle with you all and today its my Cedrela Sinensis...I photograph them every year at this time because of the amazing hot pink foliage they have for just a few short weeks before it turns a light green. #pink #myjungle #jungle #tropical #vibes #foliage #leaf #garden #plantlife #colour #spring

21.01.2022 For those attempting cuttings in sphagnum moss for the first time, it helps to speed up the process if you can create a little mini greenhouse environment. Find things around the house, you don’t need to spend $$ on specific equipment. Two containers sandwiched together or a Tupperware type container will do. Keep the sphagnum moss just damp using a spray bottle. This will create the perfect warm humid environment for those little cuttings.

20.01.2022 Well this one seems super happy with the change of living conditions...flowering beautifully for the kids in their bathroom #pilea #foliage #flowers #leaves #water #inspiration #happy #plant #plantcrazy #myjungle #tropical

20.01.2022 Well...we finally got there Coralie! @coralandblush. After a few postponements and venue changes it turned out to be an awesome afternoon. Thank you to everyone who came, what an amazing turnout! I hope you all enjoyed it and learnt lots of stuff to help you on your plant journeys. Thank you to mat for taking the photos and to Coralie for my gorgeous pot! 20.01.2022 Don’t forget...the easiest way to know if your plant needs water (for most plants) is to touch them!! It’s really simple! No need for moisture meters and no need to stick fingers in soil. Just touch the leaves and those plants needing water will feel a little softer than normal. Plants are really good at talking to us, we just have to learn their language #leaves #foliage #plantsofinstagram #plants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantbased #plantvideo #plantlover #plantaddict #green #greenthumb #theindoorjungle #myindoorjungle #junglevibes #tropical #vibes #inspiration

19.01.2022 Id like to send a huge THANK YOU to Matt Talbot from www.creativeways.com.au for taking these awesome and somewhat amusing photos of me during my last sold out workshop! Thank you again to the extremely creative Coralie from Coral and Blush who hosted me a few weekends ago. Unfortunately the next workshop in October is sold out but perhaps we might have to do another in November or December. Also check out Coral and Blush. page for some gorgeous hand painted cover pots! My kids are right...I do talk with my hands...

19.01.2022 More holes on my monstera siltepicana!!

17.01.2022 Just a friendly reminder... Dont forget to move those plants away from the windows people. A 25 degree day out of the blue here in Adelaide has the potential to burn those leaves.

17.01.2022 A handful more tickets available people!

17.01.2022 Phalaenopsis orchid troubles? No worries! These guys are seriously easy!! Bright to medium indirect light and run water through the roots once a week or two. Thats it! 16.01.2022 I often forget to feed this Stromanthe Tri colour because it lives in my bathroom and I usually overhead repeat water with the shower rather than soaking like most of my other plants. It dawned on me that I hadnt feed it for ages and so set it up for an overnight soaking in a Thrive liquid feed and a dash of Seasol. While doing this I was having a good look at it and all the beautiful pink on the back of the leaves! Ill have to remember to give this one some slow release f...ertilizer so that it doesnt miss out on regular feeding because of a slack parent . . . . #inspiration #pink #leaf #plant #stromanthetriostar #green #plantpeople #crazyplantpeople #houseplantsofinstagram #tropical #tropicalvibes See more

14.01.2022 This is a good amount of roots you should see on a new plant. It means that the root system has grown out of the little plug and into the surrounding potting medium.

14.01.2022 Propagating Begonia is really simple. Heres a method that you can do easily at home. All you need is some sphagnum moss. Cut vertically along the mid vein and then pop both the pieces into the pre damp sphagnum moss so they nestled down and snug with good contact of the moss along the entire edge. Spray and keep just damp not soaking. A gentle tug in a couple of weeks will let you know if roots are developing. #propagation #folia #foliage #begonia #inspiration #purple #silver #glitter #plantlover #indoorjungles #indoorjunglebloggers #houseplant

14.01.2022 I wanted to give this lot a wash today, so instead of their normal night bath I took them outside on the deck (full shade of course) and hosed them down, watered and then gave them a spray of seasol powerfeed. Then another water before taking them back inside.

12.01.2022 Have you ever said "Ill get that next week" and then been bitterly disappointed when youve gone back and the thing is gone??? Well this pot here is that "thing" that I should have just bought when I saw it! 6 months ago I missed out but Semaphore Pets and Gardens have come through with the goods!!! Yay. I snapped it up quick smart ... So what would you put in it

12.01.2022 LEAVE IT ALONE !! This is one thing I hope everyone who attends my workshops takes on board. As with all my plants, this little adorable Philodendron Goeldii is still in his plastic pot. I bought it 3 weeks ago and I have not touched it. It went straight into a cover pot and into the bathroom. This was wet when I bought it so there was no need to do anything with it. REMEMBER... Most little plants are very young, and have small immature root systems. Leave them alone so... you dont disturb those precious roots. Let them grow and mature. Every time you fuss with or touch the roots you risk foliage damage. Check (for pests) Set and Forget! #new #inspiration #green #leaf # #Philodendron #stopfussing #leaveitalone See more

10.01.2022 HOME CONSULTATION I had the pleasure of meeting Jackie on Friday for a 1 hour home consultation. It was awesome to walk through her little jungle and help guide, suggest and help her with all her questions and issues. She was doing a great job at not overwatering! If youd like a one on one visit here in Adelaide, just send me a message. ... (Photo by www.creativeways.com.au from my recent workshop) Jackies feedback below I recently had Haidi visit my home for a plant consult and it was fantastic! Not only did Haidi bring me a brand new plant (yay!), she went through every single plant in my entire home & left me with 3 full pages of notes! I feel so much more confident looking after my plants, knowing when to water & where to position them. Im so excited to purchase more and use her suggestions on what to buy next. Im so happy I made the decision to book with her, shes so friendly, great to talk to and is a wealth of knowledge. Thanks so much Haidi!

08.01.2022 Perfect Patio Plants!!! I have a huge selection of plants on my deck/patio but some of my very favourites are the Ligularia or Tractor Seat plants. Spots, patches and frills are just some of the gorgeous attributes these plants have. ... Tractor seat plants need shade and water. They will wilt in direct sun or when needing a drink but bounce back after a good soaking. I have less caterpillar problems with them in pots rather than in the ground where its a smorgasbord for every chewing insect you can imagine. Can be easily divided in clumps for friends and family! Share your awesome patio plants with us below

07.01.2022 Ok people...Whats the one plant that you swore black and blue that you would never own... Me... I couldnt stand the sight of the rabbits foot fern, it made me feel physically sick...those creepy furry spider looking legs BUT I faced my fears after seeing some amazing huge old specimens and decided...actually I have to have one of these amazing plants! So heres my Rabbits foot fern, 12 months weve been together and its going great! ... It lives on a western facing portico on a table and takes the late evening sun all summer! I water well during the warmer months. Less often during winter. Tell me what plant you were never going to own and now absolutely love???... #inspiration #fern #foliage #grow #plantlifebalance #myjungle #leaf #

07.01.2022 Schefflera are one of my favorite plants. Tough and bulletproof outside but can be a little tricky inside. They need plenty of bright indirect light if growing inside or keep them as cuttings in a jar of water. I love their colorful sprays of fruit after flowering too. Pictured are Jacqueline, Madame De Smet, aboricola and an unknown. #flowers #plants #umbrellatree #colour #colourfull #inspiration #crazyplantpeople #houseplant #planttips #tips #myjungle #jungle #tropical

06.01.2022 Well @banksandbrown @spacecapsulegardenco that was super fun! Here’s my gorgeous snow queen that we were talking about! Original pot, watered only when foliage feels soft. Lives close to a window so gets bright indirect light all day. Let’s do it again soon! #talks #friday #drinks #plants #plantsofinstagram #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantvideo #vibes

06.01.2022 Checking out the root system on my little Begonia escargot. Edit: I only did this because I couldnt tell if the soil was dry or wet. It should be noted, I never pull the pots off my plants usually, this was a unique case. My normal teaching is Leave them Alone! Let your new plants settle and grow a root system without disturbance.

06.01.2022 FICUS TROUBLE??? Try it outside. If you live in an area free from frosts, your ficus (of all types) will thrive outside tucked underneath a patio or pergola. Being large trees, ficus need light! And your patio will often provide more light than inside your house. Sometimes you just cant find that perfect spot inside so during the warmer months of the year, put it outside and allow it to acclimatize. I basically ignore this one and only turn the hose on it every 4 weeks or so in summer and rarely the rest of the year.

03.01.2022 The link to the Live chat I had with Tim from Banks & Brown today. We talked about plant plugs and epiprenum snow queen https://www.instagram.com/tv/CHzQy7PpM-A/

03.01.2022 Another PROPAGATION story. This Peperomia Incana lost a leaf a while back when I was watering it one day. Not wanting to waste the opportunity but without really putting too much thought into it I shoved the leaf with a tiny stem into a pot with another plant. ... Pretty much forgetting about it and watering occasionally, I was surprised recently to see a beautiful little baby shooting up. So today Ive gently pulled the little root system out and given it its own pot and a spot on the bench with the other toddlers and teenagers, waiting for their license to join the adults inside

02.01.2022 Sometimes its good to remember that a plant might just be a dud . Even with all the perfect love and attention sometimes it might not actually be something youre doing wrong. This little Rhaphidophora tetrasperma is about 18 months old...maybe older. It just never grew despite my best efforts. It just didnt have the energy to start producing a good root system. It finally started to look like it was going to push out a new leaf back in January...but thats about as exciting as it got Anyway, my point is, sometimes theres nothing you can do but accept that occasionally plants are just not cut out for the job of growing up
