24.01.2022 I caught a glimpse of an episode of The Block the other day, where the contestant was crying at being told by her glazier that she could not have a silver mirror splashback in her kitchen, it had to be a smoke mirror. Not being a regular "Blockhead" I didn't realise at the time that it is an old episode, however I would still like to point out that this information is simply not true. Can you have a Silver Mirror splashback in your kitchen? ABSOLUTELY!!... What do you need to know in order to have one? 1/ Smoke mirror splashbacks are really popular right now, so you need to ensure that you are clear with your glazier that it is a silver mirror splashback that you want. 2/ The mirror does need to be made from toughened glass. This allows it to have powerpoint cut-outs and to withstand the temperature extremes that occur when in proximity to a cooktop. 3/ It will be more expensive than a regular glass splashback. This misinformation is a perfect example of why it pays to engage a professional to assist with your renovation projects, and why you shouldn't believe everything that you see on TV. This gorgeous house is the perfect example of how a challenging site can result in a house that is far more beautiful and unique. Moral of the story: don't be afraid to take on a challenge!

Pleasantly surprised to see the home of two very clever former clients of mine, and it is just stunning! Do yourself a favour and make time to visit some of these amazing residences - they may not ever be open again! If the event is a success this year we may be lucky enough to peek inside even more of our incredible local buildings next year. Ballarat is so lucky to be home to the widest array of amazing architecture.
