25.01.2022 From today, all people working and visiting health care settings must wear a single-use surgical mask - covering both mouth and nose - at all times when in the physical presence of other people on the premises. This includes pharmacies. The KI Medical Clinic has more information in this week's print edition. Clients need to be aware they will need to sign in when entering the clinic or pharmacy and be cooperative by wearing masks, unless they have a medical condition. All peo...ple in health care settings are required to wear a mask while in the physical presence of other people. This includes: Care providers Patients Clients Residents Administrative and other staff Employees Visitors Students Contractors Any other person present on site. Masks are also required for: Employees at nail salons, tattoo parlours, hairdressers and similar businesses. People who are in self-quarantine or self-isolation who need to leave their home to seek urgent medical care, seek urgent medical supplies or get tested for COVID-19 must wear a mask when in public. Meanwhile, in South Australia it is not mandatory for the general community, but it is recommended to wear a mask when out in public if you are unable to physically distance. For further information please call the SA COVID-19 Information Line on 1800 253 787 between the hours of 9am to 5pm 7 days per week or go to the SA Health website

25.01.2022 There is one new COVID-19 case in South Australia today, Thursday, November 26, with a man aged in his 40s testing positive. A teenage girl, who attends the Woodville High School, was also confirmed as a positive case late yesterday. During today's media conference Professor Spurrier highlighted the need for people to wear masks when they are unable to keep socially distant from others, especially taking part in activities such as shopping. From Tuesday, December 1, QR Codes will be used as a tracking system for people attending businesses and venues where a COVID-Safe Plan needs to be implemented.

24.01.2022 Many South Australians are rejoicing after waking to the lengthy SA-VIC border restrictions fully lifting from today. Premier Steven Marshall said, 'today is also a happy day" with the roll out of the QR (quick response). Any business, including supermarkets and take away shops, who have a COVID-safe plan in place will have a QR code in place at the front of their business for people to access via their devices.

21.01.2022 Good news - no new cases!

21.01.2022 Wow - three years in row KICE has been named Regional School of the Year at the Australian Education Awards. And this year, Maxine McSherry was also recognised with a Principal of the Year Excellence Award. "It was nice to be recognised with an individual award but I am most pleased that we won the school award. It is about the team and what we all contribute as a community that makes KICE the best regional school in Australia."

20.01.2022 Here's a bit of yarn about that cross-country dash by Veith Engineering to get the prop for the Sealion 2000 fixed. If the prop was freighted back by truck it would have taken an extra two days and due to the statewide travel restrictions, the Sealion would have stayed on the ship lift an extra four days...

20.01.2022 Well, what does KI mean to you?

18.01.2022 Western Districts Tennis Club member Tracey Downing thanked Adam Cornel, regional manager SA/TAS from Rebel Sport, for its generous donation of tennis rackets, balls and sports bags. The club also gave a big thank-you to Adam Quin from Quin Sports and Nets for donating three new tennis nets so it could start its season with a home game.

18.01.2022 Landowners are concerned about the number of what they believe are blue gum saplings sprouting on farms, roadsides and creek lines downwind of burnt timber plantations. Kangaroo Island Plantation Timbers general manager Keith Lamb said it had not yet been determined if these were plantation blue gums. And if they were, then the issue needed to be addressed as part of the bushfire clean up as fire caused the spread. Peter Davis said he was confident the saplings were plantation blue gums and were thick in places where fire activated seeds landed after the bushfires. Some saplings had grown taller than 1 metre high.

17.01.2022 The whole of South Australia will officially be in Fire Danger Season tomorrow, including KI. A group of Island women recently participated in the Kangaroo Island Firey Women two-day workshop. Kangaroo Island meanwhile has two more Bushfire Ready Meetings, one in Parndana and on one in Penneshaw.

15.01.2022 Live from the 2020 Parndana Show...

11.01.2022 The 2020 Parndana Show was just what the Kangaroo Island community needed after a difficult year of disaster and then isolation. There was a sense of togetherness and a relief to be out among friends again, celebrating Island life. Check out my photos too in the gallery. I think they're not too shabby for being taken while doing a 3-hour live stream!

06.01.2022 The has been a renewed commitment to build a safe off-road walking/cycling trail for Parndana but funding is still needed. The Walking/Cycling Trails Subcommittee group held a working bee on the weekend at Gosse, as part of an offset deal to clear native vegetation. The trail is proposed to be a 1-metre wide natural walking/cycling trail that traverses through roadside vegetation surrounding Parndana with a couple of sealed links connecting to well used community common spaces, within the township.
