23.01.2022 It’s all hands on deck at day 2 of the Kokoda Youth Foundation working bee and we’ve found some more great flashback Kokoda Challenge event signs!

22.01.2022 Tag a teammate that you had to carry during the #KokodaChallenge

21.01.2022 Another special moment captured from the "Cav-Koda" Challenge over the weekend with Cavendish Road SHS - Official reading The Ode before setting off into D'Aguilar National Park to complete either the 28km or 56km course they mapped out!

20.01.2022 Today is #RemembranceDay and as you all know, we are very excited to be introducing a 15km course in the 2021 Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge. We have dedicated the title of the 15km Gold Coast School Cup to Corporal John Arthur Metson of the 2/14th Battalion who was shot through the ankle during the Battle of Isurava along the Kokoda Track and was left unable to walk. He was fortunately found by Captain Sydney Buckler who was leading a group of wounded Australian soldiers out to... safety. Buckler had arranged 8 men to carry Metson out on a stretcher, however Metson knew the difficult terrain that lay ahead and the ongoing threat of Japanese forces, so instead he insisted on crawling on his hands and knees to spare the other soldiers the burden of carrying him. Metson spent three weeks crawling through the dense jungle in agony before Captain Buckler decided that the seriously wounded needed to stay in the village of Sangai so the able-bodied could find help sooner. Corporal Tom Fletcher volunteered to stay behind and care for these men along with the help of the villagers. It was 6 weeks before a party of Australians were able to return to the village of Sangai. When they arrived, they found the body of John Metson and Tom Fletcher along with the other wounded Australian soldiers who had been found by the Japanese and executed. Metson’s incredible display of the Kokoda Spirit is precisely why we have named the Gold Coast 15km course the John Metson School Cup

20.01.2022 Have you seen the new look of our event pages? You can still pre-register your interest so you will be notified when registrations open which will be very soon! www.kokodachallenge.com/events

18.01.2022 Camp Kokoda Outdoor Education NEEDS YOUR HELP! Many people don’t know that as well as running the #KokodaChallenge events, the Kokoda Youth Foundation also owns and operates Camp Kokoda out in Maroon, QLD which is currently our only source of income until our events are up and running again next year. Staff sleeping quarters are currently lacking at camp and we desperately need to convert our shed mezzanine to provide private rooms for those instructors needing to stay ons...ite long-term due to border crossing restrictions. These renovations will enable Camp Kokoda to operate at full capacity for the remainder of the year and help substitute the financial loss we suffered from the cancellation of our events. So, what do we need exactly? Gyprock (enough for two small rooms of 2900 x 1700, plus ceilings) Windows (2 of 1200 x 600) Timber studs Insulation 2 x air conditioners (2.5hp) Labour to install the above living arrangements FIND OUT MORE & GET INVOLVED HERE https://bit.ly/2ZgXQkT

18.01.2022 A HUGE thank you to Lowood State High School for raising $500 for the Kokoda Youth Foundation during their very own version of the #KokodaChallenge event which they called "Linville to Lowood"! Students and teachers started in Linville (which is northwest of Brisbane) and finished up their 48 and 96km challenges at Lowood State High School and managed to raise us such an outstanding amount while doing so! We can't thank our enormously supportive community enough, it means the world to us to have such wonderful people backing our Foundation, especially during such strange times (note: our COO Johllene presenting a Certificate of Appreciation from 1.5 metres away! )

18.01.2022 We'd just like to say one more enormous THANK YOU to all those wonderful people who helped us out at the Kokoda Youth Foundation HQ over the weekend to take on the mammoth task of organising all of our event equipment in preparation for a HUGE 2021 #KokodaChallenge

17.01.2022 It's that strange time between Christmas and NYE when no one's really sure what day it is (it's Saturday by the way), which also means we're only 20 DAYS away from opening registrations for the 2021 #KokodaChallenge in Brisbane and Gold Coast! Who's going to be in your team next year?

17.01.2022 We have created a Kokoda Challenge Support Crew Facebook Group to provide support crew members with a space to exchange information plus tips and tricks on the best way to support their team throughout the #KokodaChallenge Who are you going to ask to be in your support crew for the 2021 Kokoda Challenge?

16.01.2022 Earlier this week, Doug and Anna paid a visit to Dalby State High School to present them with a certificate for being a part of the #KokodaChallenge for 11 consecutive years and for raising $3,000 for the Kokoda Youth Foundation this year alone despite our events not being able to go ahead! We are forever grateful for their ongoing support and we were delighted to be able to head out to Dalby to meet all the students and teachers involved at their school and thank them for their commitment to KYF

15.01.2022 Lessons we have learnt in 2020 thus far; Never underestimate the value of toilet paper! 13.01.2022 This is the cover of the Courier Mail from this day back in 1942 when Australians were not only waking up to incoming news of the developing WWII conflict in Europe, but also the ongoing battle in New Guinea that was concerning many families on home soil about whether the Japanese were going to invade Australia. This was especially the case after the bombing of Darwin occurred in February 1942 that killed more than 200 people and is often referred to as 'Australia’s Pearl Harbour’ #KokodaTrack #WW2
